Coming in 2010-
A team of mercenaries head to South America on a mission to overthrow a dictator.
AICN has some casting news from Stallone
that's all kinds of awesome:
Mr. Stallone called Harry this morning to reveal more details about his mercenaries-vs-dictator action extravaganza THE EXPENDABLES.
He told Harry that UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture has been added to the movie's cast, joining the already announced Jason Statham, Jet Li, and Dolph Lundgren. Sly's hoping he'll be able to give Couture an excellent boost towards big screen action stardom.
Forrest Whittaker has also been cast in the film, which rolls this March in Brazil.
Oh, and look for Jet Li to fight Dolph Lundgren in THE EXPENDABLES. If that's not a plunge into Geeky bad-assity, I don't know what is.

Stallone's been doing well lately. I really hope he doesn't screw it up with this.

62.
This has real potential- especially if it ends up being a series or something- as the list of possible future underappreciated/badass/action star/semi-action star actors is almost limitless (as some of the over the top, yet tantalizing suggestions made in that AICN article's talkback well illustrate).

Which is good. Because he can be so much more than an action hero. He's a great writer/director IMO. And I think Roger Ebert's comparison of him in Rocky to Brando is warranted.

With both Rocky Balboa and Rambo Stallone showed a good ability to play to his strengths and deliver what the audience for each series would want. I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be a fun movie.

Bullock In Stallone's "Expendables"?
Sylvester Stallone is after his old "Demolition Man" co-star Sandra Bullock to join him in his new action film "The Expendables" reports JoBlo.
Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Forest Whitaker and Randy Couture star in the story of a team of mercenaries on a mission to overthrow a South American dictator.
Bullock would play a government agent (paired up with Whitaker) on the hunt for Stallone's crew of hired guns. Stallone co-stars and directs.

This movie sound like it could be great fun. Slys "return" in Rambo was as good as I hade hoped it would be and the plot for this movie and all the great actors that will participate makes it very interesting indeed.

Indeed. First with Rocky Balboa, he gave the series and the character the closing both deserved. Then with Rambo, he topped himself. IMO, he captures American destruction and cynicism in half the time as the meandering, albeit excellent, There Will Be Blood.

RE: Stallone's The Expendables
The premise actually sounds a lot like the 1991 guilty pleasure action flick,
McBain
, starring Christopher Walken, Michael Ironside, and the late, great Steve James. Here's the
trailer
from youtube. and here's Walken's
Woodstock Monologue
, which is classic.
The tagline for the film:
Taking on the drug lords is impossible. Taking on a country is insane.
Anyway, looking forward to "The Expendables". Wish they would add Michael Dudikoff to the cast. That would be awesome.
