The2ndQuest posted: -Harry Potter & The Sorcerer's Stone: Never read the books, but this one was so-so. The series has grown much better over time, but this first movie in particular setup two things that bothered me: 1) the evil slapstick foster family antics (which feel like they belong is an awful Disney movie) and 2) how most of the "magical" moments in the film feel like we're supposed to assume they are magical, even though they never truly earn that feeling like truly magical films have done in the past. -The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring: Having never read the books, I was nevertheless looking forward to the film to see what the hype was about and, also, from it's great trailers (the teaser, in particular, where Mr Movie Voice is almost singing "One ring to rule them all- one ring to find them, one ring to bring them all and in the darkness, bind them." was stuck in my head for a very long time, and the gothic midnight track of the full trailer was damn catchy and subsequently over-used in many other trailers). The film itself was good, though it didn't make me a die-hard fan or crazily await the next film (though Two Towers would win me over). The extended edition did help it quite a bit, though.

Kyptastic posted:///even if I did read the books a found out what happened, which I sort of regretted, especially since the Gandalf reveal in TTT would have been so much better going in unspoiled.
