Yep, last week.

Put it aside to finish the Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, but I'm back on it now.

For the moment, I'm re-reading the Lord of the Rings in between spurts of the manga "The Legend of Basara" and Japanese short story collections. I've been working through the Oxford collection recently.

How is that series Hobbit? I have the entire set on my shelf, and I've been meaning to dive into it, just been pushing it off. The idea behind it is extremely intriguing to me.

Bringing Down the House by Ben Mezrich

I saw 21 this weekend and was inspired to pick up the book. Though different than the movie in many ways, I'm enjoying it.

It was decent. It didn't knock my socks off, but I didn't hate it or anything. I could tell that it was written earlier in Keyes's career, especially with a couple themes that are used in later books, like the Kingdom of Thorn and Bone books. The writing style isn't terribly descriptive, and (in my opinion) there's some plot holes on a characterization level. But overall it's an interesting plot with lots of twists and turns, and it was somewhat of a page turner too, which I'm a sucker for.

the main problem I had with it is that it seems like every other character is some sort of math and science guru, deriving equations like it's nothing. They just don't think to do until they need to, and then they crank it out in a couple of hours or some ridiculously short amount of time. Having been a Physics and Engineering major, I can guarantee that stuff like that is no where nearly as easy as Keyes makes it seem. Though it's ppossible he just glossed over those sections because he himself is not any sort of mathematician or he felt the ends were more important than the means. I can't say.

EDIT: Oh, and I decided on Stranger in a Strange Land by Heinlein. It didn't really grab me at first, but I'm starting to get into it.
