Bag of Bones- When I said Night Shift may have been King's best, I was sorely mistaken. Bag of Bones is probably his best novel. King had never scared me before this book.
Wolves of the Calla- I feel that the first 3 novels in the Dark Tower series were superb, but it went downhill a little with Wizard and Glass and is continuing with this book.

Just finished American Gods - a fun, enjoyable, highly entertaining book.
I'm thinking next I might try Ayn Rand, perhaps The Virtue of Selfishness or Atlas Shrugged.

Because there are no story-book romances, no fairy-tale endings. So before you run out and change the world, ask yourself, "What do you really want?" Because life... is not a movie. Everyone lies. Good guys lose. And love... does not conquer all.

Some Fables trades which is my favorite comic out there. And I finally gave Y the Last Man a look and loved that.

Good luck with that; took me forever, such a dull undesirable read.

I finished Blind Fall by Christopher Rice. It's different from his other three novels, but good, nonetheless. Of course, though, nothing will live up to his A Density of Souls.
I am now continuing on with my Agatha Christie fix and reading Dumb Witness, also published as Poirot Loses a Client.

"Dumb Witness" is generally agreed to be one of Christie's worst novels, unfortunately. (Do people wear broaches on dressing gowns?)

You can't go wrong with Rand. I've never read The Virtue of Selfishness but Atlas Shrugged is superb and one of my favorite novels. Read The Fountainhead first if you haven't.
I recently read The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway. This story impressed me. And the ending was incredibly sad.

General Kenobi posted: I've got so many books waiting on my shelf, it took me quite a while last night to pick out a new one to start. I decided to start on From Here To Eternity; just got Chapter 1 finished last night.
I look forward to your thoughts on it; I think From Here to Eternity is the American novel.
Jack (1989) - A.M. Homes
Young adult novel about a boy finding out that the reason his parents divorced is that his father is gay. This has been done about a million times by the young adult novel industry, but this is about the only one that actually makes things work without becoming either condescending, preachy or mawkish.
Anecdote of the Jar (1919) - Wallace Stevens
The Idea of Order at Key West (1936) - Wallace Stevens
After discovering Stevens' Sunday Morning, which I loved, I've suddenly remembered why I used to hate him. Neither of these are any good at all.
The Dead (1914) - James Joyce
Reminding me again of why Finnegans Wake is such a travesty; that the man capable of genius on this level would spend the last productive years of his life on a literary practical joke is just painful. This short story is absolutely, deeply, profoundly brilliant. If I ever write one paragraph even one-thousandth as good as the final paragraph of this story, I can die happy; note: it'll never happen, that's how good this story is. If you haven't read this, and even if, like me, you have problems with Joyce in general, you still must read this.
The Metamorphosis (1915) - Franz Kafka
I think the most shocking thing about this story is just how sidesplittingly funny it is; the image of the apple lodged in Gregor's back had me in stitches and if you don't laugh at the scene where Gregor's boss comes by to find out why Gregor hasn't come to work, you don't have a funny bone in your body. Existential tragedy can be funny; please, everyone, take note. Bleak doesn't have to mean dull.

Well, that blows. I suppose every author has to have one worst book. I'll be able to judge better once I get further along.

I FINALLY finished War of Wars. It only took me three months to read it.
I haven't decided what I am going to read next, although I am leaning towards either Oil! by Upton Sinclair or The Rising Tide by Jeff Shaara.
