FISHER, FISHER, FISHER!
What a night! The 1st half was excruciating: the Lakers not shooting well, horrendous foul trouble for Gasol, Bynum, and Odom (2 for before 6 minutes left in the 2nd quarter), letting the Magic dictate much of everything................................score at halftime, 49-37 Magic. Everything changed in the 3rd quarter...........................Ariza lights a fire for the team, as he scores 13 in the quarter (16 points, 9 boards were his game totals), the team shot much better...................Lakers outscore the Magic 30-14 in the quarter. 4th quarter, late in the game, Hedo makes a 3, then a 2 pointer, Magic up 87-82, 39 seconds left to play. A Gasol dunk later, Lakers down 87-84, Howard gets fouled 11 seconds left. I'm thinking, great, he makes both or 1, the game is likely over..............................misses the first attempt, good! MISSES the 2nd attempt! Lakers ball a few moments later, and..........................FISHER, for 3! 87-87! The Magic fail to hit their shot on the next possession, and we head into overtime.......................Kobe hits 2 jump shots (one coming after a Rashard Lewis 3), score is now 91-90. Fisher fouls Howard, who missed 1 of his 2 free throws, so it's tied up at 91. Seconds pass, Kobe misses a shot, Lakers get the rebound, Nelson fouls Gasol (non shooting foul, Magic not in the penalty), so there's 46 seconds left. Next play, Kobe passed to Fisher.......................................WHO HITS THE 3! 94-91, 31 seconds left. Magic take their timeout, Hedo takes & misses a 3......................after a Gasol dunk and technical free throws (after he & Pietrus got into it), game over! 99-91 L.A., taking the commanding 3-1 series lead! Watched the game with a friend at our favorite bar, and it was absolutely insane during the last seconds of the 4th/overtime. My heart is still racing with excitement..........................................1 more win to go.............................just one more.

That's exactly what I was thinking last night. Its crazy how much of a swing this series could have taken.

OK, someone please explain this to me. How is it that a defender gets elbowed in the face like that and no foul is called? Is it just because this was Kobe Bryant at the end of the game, or is there some legitimate reason that wasn't an offensive foul?
I especially like how the commentators didn't say anything at all about a foul until after the commercial break. It's like these guys aren't allowed to say what they're really thinking without checking with the NBA suits first. I think it was Jackson who finally said it was clearly an offensive foul after the 10th time they showed the replay.

I don't know... it really should have been called. Still, sometimes calls like that get legitimately missed.

Maybe it's just me, but when I see the exact same ref correctly call a foul on a defender in traffic, I get a bit suspicious when something as easy as that gets overlooked. It's the same reason I'll never truly be an NBA fan. Not that the Lakers didn't deserve to win after how the Magic finished, but in my mind that should have been called.
I can't wait for the "Where will amazing happen?" commercial with Kobe elbowing that guy in slow motion. In fact, if I can get the video somewhere, I'll make it myself.

Aside from the fact that Nelson may have flopped a bit, are you guys missing the fact that the Lakers shot NO FREE THROWS in the 4th quarter? None! For me, that cancels out Kobe's elbow.

NBA refereeing is an absolute joke. Bill Simmons has been on it for years. Years. I'm not certain we can expect much better from what we have right now (middle aged men trying to keep up with top-notch athletes running up and down the court).
We need to reduce the life expectancy of the referees, continuously get younger, fresh blood in the ranks, and make sure we have refs who can keep up with the action. Surely mid-major college players and Duke grads can do this.
