Can we stop the panic about Cleveland? They're one game off last year's pace (0-2 vs. 1-1 or 1-2 how they started), they're integrating some serious new pieces (Shaq, obviously, but also Parker and Moon), and they're missing arguably their second best player (Delonte West).

Sure, I hate seeing them blow a 14-point lead against Boston, and really hated seeing that 18-point halftime deficit against Toronto. But, at the end of the day, the guys will click. Mike Brown will find a rotation that works (I'd like to see them start JJ, and have Andy and Z play together off the bench), and get back to where they need to be. Biggest thing at this point in time is to learn to play together, and be in position for the two seed in the East.

Ticket prices haven't gone up (officially through Tickemaster, StubHub is another story) for the Lakers this season, but I'll find out tonight if food/drink prices have.

Well, the food prices haven't gone up. Onto the game:

Things that went right: Got to the game on time, had a good seat, my frozen margarita was excellent, and there was a ton of lovely ladies walking around to oogle at.

Things that went horribly wrong: The actual game! plain Lakers shot only 39% from the field (held to 35 2nd half points), as they lost to the Mavericks 94-80. No offense flow at all from the Lakers, and too many of them had too many fouls (Artest, for example, had 5, and only scored 3 points). Shannon Brown was a lone highlight, coming off the bench and provided some energy with 2 steals (and 12 points). Kobe was the only Laker to more than 14 points (he had 20), and Gasol was out for the 2nd game in a row with that sore hamstring of his (he's supposed to be back on Sunday night against Atlanta). This is my 3rd season in attending Laker games at Staples, and each year they've only lost 1 game I was at, so hopefully last night will be the only one.

So we went to the Grizzlies/Raptors game last night and it was obvious who the "superstar" on the floor was. Couldn't look at Bosh without a whistle. Couldn't sneeze around Bosh without a whistle... It really is a joke in the NBA with that stuff.

Thankfully, it wasn't enough to stop the Grizzlies from winning the game.

Not only did the Mavs pwn the Lakers, and Clippers on back to back nights, they also shut the crowd at the Staples center up two nights in a row.

I told you the Mavs would win Armen, I told you!!! grin

Juli, it doesn't take much to shut down the Clippers' crowd. Those poor souls have endured so much catastrophe the last 20 years they've become unfazed by each mind-numbing injury or loss.

A much, much better game last night for the defending champs than their pitiful effort this past Friday night, with a 118-110 win over the Hawks. Artest, though having a good night when one looks at his line (12 points, 7 boards, 4 assists), really came through defensively last night, with 3 blocks and excellent effort. Kobe was Kobe (41 points, 8 boards, 3 steals), and every Laker who played scored at least 2 points. However, despite 27 of those points coming from the bench, a 24 point Laker lead in the 3rd quarter (thanks to an 18-0 Laker run) was dwindled down to 10 by the Hawks, before Phil had to put his starters back in. The bench "mob" cannot be doing this all year! Leads of 15 or more have to stay that way. Other Laker highlights: Odom's 14 rebounds, and Bynum scoring 21 points.

On a somber note, John Radcliffe, longest tenured Laker employee, died this past September

He was the official NBA scorer at Laker games, starting his tenure when the team called The L.A. Sports Arena home. I didn't know he had died until it was mentioned on the game broadcast last night, and I was very sad to learn of his passing.
