At first, when texted by a co-worker about it (while at work, hence why I wasn't around here all day), I didn't believe it. Had to check ESPN.com (on my phone) to make sure, and ***damnit, it was true. Just a few hours earlier, I was very happy in the Dodgers setting a new major league record by winning their first 13 home games. Woke up this morning feeling great about that (and the Lakers win last night, of course), thinking great things for the rest of the season.................................and now this. I was there last August 1st when Manny made his Dodger debut...........................I was there this April (the 18th, a Saturday afternoon) when Manny hit his 1st 2 home runs of this season. Wonderful memories that made so proud & happy to be a Dodgers fan. Today, I feel like those memories have been set ablaze during a robbery at gun point. I'm in shock, and will be for some time to come (for the Dodgers/ baseball anyway, the Lakers are different issue, but thank goodness for their playoff right now/chances to win the NBA title.......................will mean that much more now for me). A lot of conversation centered around this today, with a popular question being "Will Mannywood ever be the same?". No, no, no. Of course not. I will always be a Dodgers fan no matter what, this '09 team is very good & I believe they will continue to play well. If they happen to win the pennant this season and or a World Series, it will mean something very special to me, but there would an emotional gap present.............................one that may never go away.
