The Yankees are too good of a team to be able to get away with missed opportunities and mistakes. Tonight, the Yankees did what the Phillies needed to do: score early and keep pounding on the other team to build a big lead. 7-1 was just too much of a deficit to overcome. If Martinez walked a few less guys in the 2nd and 3rd inning or if the Phils didn't give up the 3 runs in the 5th, it may have been a different game. Oh well, that is the game of baseball and it is why it is so difficult to repeat as champions. No matter what, I am very proud of this Phillies team. They never gave up and came 2 wins away from winning back-to-back world championships. If you told me three years ago that the Phils would be two wins away from back-to-back World Series championships, I would have told you that you were crazy. The 2006-present Phillies team has made their stamp and they are making their mark for being maybe the greatest era in the Phillies history, surpassing the Phillies 1976-1983 era. If the Phils can get Hamels back to 2008 form next year and solidify their closing spot, they can be right back in the World Series (and maybe winning it this time) next year. Harry would be proud and smiling, and so am I.

I really don't think Gonzalez was on anything in 2001. His season was more like Maris's in 1961, and he had several other very good seasons (just as Maris did).
