So I guess the next phase will begin when some woman doped up on 5-hour energy breaks the gender barrier.

How can you say Babe Ruth was an all time great when he dominated a segregated league? And hell, cocaine was a total wild card in the 70s and 80s, either handicapping careers or giving players off the wall energy.

It's no use complaining about PEDs when so many people were involved. Pettitte is one of the old guard, but this could be his last or second-to-last season, and soon a new (hopefully) clean generation will take over.

I really don't think Gonzalez was on anything in 2001. His season was more like Maris's in 1961, and he had several other very good seasons (just as Maris did).

Here are my thoughts that I posted in the JCC's MLB thread:

SLR posted:
Tough loss tonight. However, the Phils just missed too many opportunities and made too many mistakes in games 2, 3 and 4 and it came back to bite them. The Yankees are too good of a team to be able to get away with missed opportunities and mistakes. Tonight, the Yankees did what the Phillies needed to do: score early and keep pounding on the other team to build a big lead. 7-1 was just too much of a deficit to overcome. If Martinez walked a few less guys in the 2nd and 3rd inning or if the Phils didn't give up the 3 runs in the 5th, it may have been a different game. Oh well, that is the game of baseball and it is why it is so difficult to repeat as champions.

No matter what, I am very proud of this Phillies team. They never gave up and came 2 wins away from winning back-to-back world championships. If you told me three years ago that the Phils would be two wins away from back-to-back World Series championships, I would have told you that you were crazy. The 2006-present Phillies team has made their stamp and they are making their mark for being maybe the greatest era in the Phillies history, surpassing the Phillies 1976-1983 era. If the Phils can get Hamels back to 2008 form next year and solidify their closing spot, they can be right back in the World Series (and maybe winning it this time) next year. Harry would be proud and smiling, and so am I.

I understand you're an Arizona guy, but Gonzo fits the PED profile to a T. Maris was 26 when he hit 61. Gonzo shattered career highs at 33. I'm sorry, but it's very safe to assume players are guilty until proven innocent.

Except, one of the basic tenets in America is suppose to be "innocent until proven guilty"... though that doesn't happen much anymore these days. Especially not with the media.

I don't think Canseco called Gonzo out, but you have to admit Jose's batting average is impressive. And if it's any consolation, the late 90s Yankees were full of juicers.

Well, with no WBC until 2013, does that mean next year's postseason will start a bit earlier? I suspected that was the reason for the late start this year, though I could be wrong. Also, can we get a gag order on the moral outrage on the steroid issue concerning past users involved in this postseason? Good grief.

I can't imagine Posada was/is juicing or he'd have been outed by now.

And yes, the WBC delayed the both start of the regular season (April 6th, I think) and postseason. We should see March 31st -or around there- Opening Days next year. Have to say I am BURNT out of baseball thanks to the WBC. Just dragged the season out too long. But shortening gaps between postseason series -like the NBA does- would help a lot if there are quick ones.

I was disappointed to see Tommy Hanson finish third in the NL RoY voting - he should have at least been in the top two, if not the winner.
