Yeah, he should stay retired - though now he's asked for his release from the Packers, so it doesn't look like he'll play in GB at least.

I'll be pissed if we just release him. I'd much rather we trade him and get something in return, as well as decide where he ends up (out of the NFC North!).

I doubt he'd go elsewhere in the division regardless.

Who would trade anything of value for him anyways, though, knowing its probably just one year, maybe two at the most? It would have to be a team with literally everything but a QB, willing to put a bunch on the line immediately.

The Brett Favre situation is pretty ridiculous. He finally said that he was going to retire, and now wants back? Living legend, yes. Egomaniac, yes. plain Favre is loosing more and more of my respect every day that this drama goes on.

Favre is a lot of things, but egomaniac is not one of them.

Past his prime, with a good enough performance last season that I'd bet three-fourths of the teams in the NFL would take him.

Rumor has it that he might be interested in the Vikings since he is friends with Darrell Bevell. The would kill two birds with one stone: they play the opening Monday night game at Lambeau, and the Packers could retire his jersey with him there.

//shudders

There's no way the Packers will release him. Maybe a trade to a team like Tampa Bay or Miami or Baltimore or Atlanta or Washington or the Jets. (A few of the teams rumored to be interested.) Ted Thompson has said he can be on the roster as a backup to Aaron Rodgers. Which might not be a bad thing, given A-Rod's penchant for getting hurt. (I've got nothing against A-Rod, I like him... just sayin'.)

I guess the Pack wants Favre back ... as Aaron Rodgers's backup

Sounds like the perfect solution. They commit to Aaron, then he gets hurt getting out of bed during camp, and voila! Favre is back tongue

just out of curiosity, what are you getting from this story that says he has a huge ego?

To me, it just sounds like someone who's to in love with the game to quit...

I guess huge ego is an overstatement. But Favre chose to retire (not forced out) a couple of months ago and almost un-retired in March, but chose not to. The organization has tried to move on. But now Favre wants to play again. I guess I'm irked that Favre chose now to want to unretire. He didn't have to retire in the first place, and could have (and probably should have) unretired in March. It's his right to do it, but I don't think that it's fair to the organization or Aaron Rodgers. But, depending on how things turn out, things could work out for Rodgers. He has one year left on his contract, right? So, he might not be remembered as "the guy that replaced Brett Favre."

I'd be semi-surprised if Rogers didn't decide to move on after this year, even if Favre doesn't come back.

That's certainly a good possibility. The Packers underestimated Favre's desire to keep playing (and potential effectiveness) when they drafted Rodgers.
