I have slowly been getting into MMA. My two big problems are thus:

1) I don't catch it on a regular basis. Erratic watching makes it difficult to really follow it.

2) I don't have a favorite to watch and track. Not having a dog to cheer for makes it difficult to get too passionate.

Help?

Start with the Ultimate Fighter, Season 1 and also grab anything by Ken Shamrock, Chuck Liddle, and Randy Couture.

According to f4wonline.com and TMZ.com, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson was arrested on charges of hit and run and evading and resisting arrest.

He was originally send to Orange County jail, then sent to another when he was declared "Medically unfit" to be held in Orange County (make whatever jokes you will).

He was bailed out several hours later. Presumably by UFC President Dana White.

I watched both the UFC and Affliction events.(recorded UFC and watched Affliction live)

Arlovsky looks like he's officially back in business.

Barnett looked impressive.

Fedor... just wow. Silvya didn't stand a chance. This thing was over in 36 seconds. Fedor just annhilated him.

Same goes for Silva. Irvin went for a kick about 45 seconds in and Silva just grabbed his leg and punched him once. That one punch and Irvin was on the ground covering his head. Silva just pounded on him till the ref called it.

Great night for MMA

Just watched the replay...Silva murdered Irvin. That was a nice card actually, though the Verra fight was a bit dull...his opponent was never in it.

Yeah, Vera looked slow last night.

But as far as the card goes, Affliction blew it out of the water. UFC has the better 205 division, but the best heavyweights are in Affliction.

Finally watched the Silva fight (I went to bed and DVRed the second half of the show).

Wow, Silva is a beast. Just a whoopin, and nothing but a whoopin.

My only other comment from the card is: Anthony Johnson got totally screwed. But, he's also about the classiest act I've ever seen from a athlete in how he handled it.

Yeah, I wonder if that goes down as TKO (eye pokes) in the record. I thought for sure his opponent was getting DQed when the ref stopped it, considering how many times he'd told him to stop.

I tried to open a new thread about MMA, but I didn't see this one because it had fallen behind.

I suggest we pump new life into this thread by talking about the Iceman v. Sugar. And at the same time discussing the Forrest Griffin v. Rampage fight.

Did anyone see it, because I haven't. sad

Brock Lesnar?

That seems a little quick for him.

Given the way he handled Herring, I'm not sure they had much in alternatives.
He would have manhandled Kongo considering Heath beat him pretty easily on the ground. This way they get a high profile guy for Randy that will draw a ton of ppv buys and if Brock loses, "hey he lost to mutliple time champ and UFC hall of famer", no real shame in that given Brock's experience and if Brock wins then they have their new face for the Heavyweight division and he gets Big Nog or a rematch with Mir.
They can still introduce Fedor to the UFC and American fans with a fight with Randy (even if he losses at some point), since that fight is still main event quality and will draw big time numbers. Then that winner faces off against the guy who is left standing (from the other 3) sometime at the end of '09.

*This assumes they can sign Fedor for a 2-3 fight deal, which is by no way guaranteed to happen (see early 2008).
