I can't wait until summer comes around, because the hype will certainly rise. Not much to report on between spring practice and late summer, though.

Except for stuff like misbehaving QBs getting kicked off the team and the like, at least.

The Aggies are probably not going to be good. We don't have a defense this year. worried

I just can't get myself worked up to post and debate about pre-pre-season rankings on SI and ESPN.com.

As soon as my biggest rival loses to a 1-AA team, I'll be back in full swing, though.

The most exciting thing for me so far is the Pac 10 vs. Big 10 showdown early next season. There's both a battle between the top teams in their respective conferences (U$C and Ohio St.) and a battle between second-tier teams Cal and Michigan St. I'm not saying that there's as much trashtalking between Pac 10/Big 10 as between Pac 10/SEC (which UCLA vs. Tennessee is for), but it will be interesting.

And yes, I just called my Bears a second-tier Pac 10 team. We'll be lucky to repeat our 7-6 record with such an inexperienced offense. Especially if Longshore wins the starting job again. Longshot + noob receivers = INT. Running won't be an issue, though the Bears will probably platoon Jahvid Best with Tracy Slocum or Shane Vereen; this would end our 6 year streak of having a 1000+ yard runner.

Luckily, Cal probably has the most solid linebacking core in the conference led by Zack Follett, Anthony Felder, and Worrell Williams. Switching to a 3-4 defense will certainly benefit the defense. Having 4 linemen last year didn't do anything, so it won't be much worse to eliminate one of them. tongue

This is the football thread. I think you're looking for the lacrosse thread. Or women's swimming. Or bowling.

Obese...

Unfortunately we are in agreement about CAL. I am hoping for a few surprises from the younger players though.

I'm not particularly looking forward to this year, I mean the schedule is *ugh*:

Schedule posted:

8/30 at 21 Clemson (Dome)
9/6 vs. Tulane +
9/13 vs. Western Kentucky +
9/20 at Arkansas -
9/27 at 2 Georgia -
10/4 vs. Kentucky +
10/18 vs. Mississippi +
10/25 at 12 Tennessee -
11/1 vs. Arkansas State +
11/8 at 1 LSU -
11/15 vs. Mississippi State +
11/29 vs. 15 Auburn +

+ = Home
- = Away
Dome = Georgia Dome

With any luck I'll get the graveyard shift for my new job so I'll get to goto most games this year as usual.

Anyways, the schedule isn't do-able, but it isn't conducive to building momentum.

As per usual I'm expecting perfection... Though if the team plays hard and like Alabama should (IE not like in the past decade) every game I'll be satisfied. I'm hoping for a second trip to the Georgia Dome as well.

*EDIT*

The Softball team shouldn't outperform the Football team, this is a sign of the apocalypse.

I still am waiting for the NCAA to drop the hammer on U$C, if there was ever an example of "Lack of Institutional Control" its them.

As far as recruiting we picked up a pretty dang good QB (AJMc) for 2009, now just keep the hogs coming in for the lines and some decent secondary and we'll be fine.

There should be some immediate impact from newcomers like Covaughn Deboskie (RB), Mike Calvin (WR) and Brian Anger (P). We should also expect to see improvements in players like Chris Conte (DB), Cameron Morrah (TE), Mike Mohamed (LB), and Syd'Quan Thompson (DB) as they get more playing time. I think Cal's already looking at 2009, when the entire roster will be more experienced. But you never know, with new players come new (hopefully pleasant) surprises.
