ESPN's Colin Cowherd just reported that, on the eve of the big game, he has passed away.
Sad, sad loss.

Shock. Speechless. I can't think or anything. I heard the news in between classes, and I just couldn't focus on anything during that second class. This is beyond surreal.
Bo has done so much for the Michigan program that to express in words how revered this man is would be impossible. With so many other greats and legends from Michigan's past gone, Bo was the titan still around. He was there for '97. He was gonna be there for this year. To think of Bo not stalking the Wolverine sidelines, of not being involved, of not being here to be that tangible piece of Michigan tradition that people could reach out and talk to....it's just.....unfathomable. Unthinkable.
Tomorrow I'll be worked up into a frenzy for the Game of the Century, but today is going to be a quiet day of attempting to get to grips with this powerful loss.

Feeling Blue for more than one reason today.
a friend posted:
As a life-long UM fan I had the pleasure of attending my first Michigan game in 2004. As my wife and I walked around the stadium prior to the game, I noticed a small crowd of people near a gate entrance. I then realized it was Bo coming into the stadium and I rushed to get his autograph. He was very kind to everyone around him and even commented that my blue sharpie pen wasn't going to show up well on my blue UM hat! It was a great pleasure to meet him that day and something I will fondly recall on my next trip to the Big House.
A moment of silence has been requested and granted before the kickoff tomorrow.

Quite possibly the best coach to never win a national title. He also never had a losing season wherever he coached.
The game has lost a great one indeed, and I have a feeling it won't be a long time until we lose another legend of college football with Ara not in good health.
A sad day indeed. It'll probably motivate this Michigan team however.

On the sidelines perhaps. Never heard anyone say a bad thing about the way he conducted himself off the football field.

Emperor_Windu is correct.
An interesting story I've heard today is how much Bob Knight revered Bo, and when he got the chance to talk with him on Dan Patrick's radio show in a double interview, Knight called it one of the most special moments of his life.

Eh, i don't want to transform this into a Bo-hatefest, but i live in Canada just across the river from Detroit, Michigan. Bo, of course, is huge in this area, and has gotten himself into trouble more then one time for speaking his mind with regards to alot of different things.
Among other things that he did that just were NOT well-received was the firing of beloved-Detroit Tiger broadcasting legend ERNIE HARWELL back in the early 90's, during his brief period as Team President of the Tigers.
Bo's a legend at the University of Michigan, and alumni and university supporters tend to shove aside/ignore all the negatives of the man, but he was certainly not any sort of beacon of decency.
Like I said, though, he bled Maise and Blue. You have to respect him for what he was: A true U of M man.

I just heard about this this morning.
On the eve of the OSU/UM game, on a Friday night in 1995, I spent three and a half hours standing in line to get Bo's autograph for my wife for Christmas (she's a UM fan, I'm die-hard OSU). For that three and a half hours, I had to endure, on the night before The Game, being the only guy in line in Scarlet and Grey. When I finally got to Bo, I handed him the book, he began to look up and then look back down, and in one of those quick moments where you know he took a second to realise it, he looked back up and smiled at me, once it clicked that I was NOT in Maize and Blue. He said "so who's going to win tomorrow?" I, of course, said "Ohio State!" Bo smiled a little wider, signed the book, and said "Go Bucks!"
So from someone who respects the legacy of the man who, along with Woody, made this rivalry what it is and gave us the Ten Year War, RIP Bo.
God will be glad to finally have someone around that Woody will be yelling at more than Him come The Game.
