Juliet316 posted: I have a feeling the Falcons are eventually going to fold as a franchise. The Vick thing is never going to go away, especially as long as many of the same players that supported Vick (Like Dunn, Horn, etc.,) are still on the team. Anybody that was involved in that "Free Vick" T - Shirt fiasco is a cancer and needs to be gotten rid of. The Falcons are never going to completely rebuild on until Dunn, Horn and other Vick supporters are out of that lockerroom.
They have been cleaning out the locker room. Dunn gone, D. Hall traded to raiders. They will be OK, just going to take awhile to bring it all back.

There's no way the Falcons (or any other NFL franchise) are going to fold. Not with an uber-rich guy like Blank owning the team.
The league is set up right now so that teams that are 'real bad' don't stay bad for long. It may take them a while to be an 'elite' team, but they should be back to 'respectability' in a few years.

Yeah, this league is run too well for a team to fold.
Even the lowest of the low teams.
As for Dunn, the guy is someone you want around even if his talent is diminished. He's got great character and is a good role model for these young punks.

Agreed. Dunn is hands down one of the best guys in the league. Just a good, decent human being.

Okay, this isn't going to fly.
Owner Proposal Forced Haircuts
These guys from Samoan Islands and the South Pacific will claim it's part of the culture/religion blah blah blah.
No way will the NFL be able to fine players who don't cut it.
EDIT: Okay, probably should have read more than the headline before posting. I guess braided ponytails will be the new style.

Several Proposals on the Table at Owners Meetings
I for one don't agree with the hair proposal. If guys like Al Harris and Polamalu don't care about being tackled by their hair in the rare occasion they actually carry the ball, we shouldn't either. And how is somebody with long dreads supposed to comfortably tuck them into their helmet?
» Changing the playoff seeding so that a wild-card team could get home-field advantage in a first round game if it has a better regular-season record than a division winner.
I completely agree with this rule. A 12-4 wild card team deserves to host a playoff game more than a 9-7 division winner. (Yeah yeah, strength of schedule, etc. I still don't buy it.)
» Ending the forceout rule on receptions and interceptions. Currently, the play stands if a player is forced out of bounds making a catch. If changed, a player must get both feet down in bounds under all circumstances.
I think the forceout rule should stay. Otherwise defenders are just going to be pushing receivers out of bounds as soon as they're in the air.
» Eliminating the 5-yard "incidental facemask" penalty. Grabbing the facemask and turning it would lead to an automatic 15-yard penalty.
I could go either way on this one. On one side, it seems like a ticky-tack penalty. But other times it seems like defenders immediately go for the face mask just to get a hand on someone before they can be wrapped up.
» Instant replay on field-goal attempts. This was proposed in part because of a game last season in which Cleveland's game-tying field goal against Baltimore appeared to hit the crossbar and bounced back on the field. It was eventually ruled to have hit the support stanchion behind the crossbar and was good. The Browns went on to win in overtime.
Why instant replay on field goals isn't already implemented boggles the mind.
And surprisingly not in the article is the proposal to allow a defensive player to wear a mic in his helmet.
This really needs to be implemented. Not just to level the playing field on both sides of the ball, but to show that the NFL has taken steps to improve the integrity of the game following the Spygate scandal. I'm sure the details will be tough to nail down, considering defensive players rotate in and out frequently. But that is something that can be worked out over the course of a few seasons.

Adoption of defensive communication passes by one vote
Woohoo! Now the playing field (pun!) is a little more level for offenses and defenses. Defenses are allowed to have one defender on the field wearing a communication device in their helmet. This is great for teams that have someone like Urlacher who plays every defensive down, but for other teams who don't, I'd imagine there's going to be a lot of helmet-swapping on the sidelines in between plays.
NFL.com posted: The vote was 25-7 in favor -- 24 yes votes were required -- and all seven negatives came from head coaches with offensive backgrounds.
Voting against the measure were Seattle (Mike Holmgren), Tampa Bay (Jon Gruden), Oakland (Lane Kiffin), Philadelphia (Andy Reid), St. Louis (Scott Linehan), Washington (Jim Zorn) and Green Bay (Mike McCarthy).
Surprisingly, Belichick says he's been all for this rule ever since the quarterbacks initially got them.

Andy, how could you?
I like this. It does level the playing field, and while there might be some question as to whom gets the mic, those can be worked out on a team by team basis.

Exactly. The fact that they can do it now is the important thing.

Yes and no. He's always been in favor of some form of allowing defensive players to have the same system. In the past he's always voted against it because it was never a 'perfect solution'. This year he voted for it because he felt like the competition committee finally addresses the flaws.

I'd be interested to know how this year's proposal differed from years past.

Not 100% sure, but I think it had to do with who, how and when the radio helmets could be worn and how the officials would keep track of them.
