I'm just waiting for Dallas to acquire PacMan, and then the commissioner follow that up by not letting him back into the league. 'Twould be so hilarious.

Jared Allen traded to Vikes
Terms not fully disclosed, but it looks like a 1, 2, and a 3 in this weekend's draft. That's quite the haul for the Chiefs.

NFL Network reported last night that it is a first and two third round picks. Still a good deal for the Chiefs.
More breaking news: Commissioner Goodell to meet with Matt Walsh on May 13th.
Looks like they were able to work out the terms after all. So how much longer will people call Belichick a "genius"?

Walsh doesn't have squat. If he did, do you honestly think the Patriots would have agreed to the terms of the deal? Would they really have waived their right to go after him in court? As soon as this was over he knew the Patriots could have dragged him into court and sued him over everything from theft of property to defamation of character.
He's a weasel who was looking for his '15 minutes of fame' over this and bit off more than he could chew.

And the Patriots would have done this after telling the commissioner they had absolutely no other involvement in any kind of spying aside from what they admitted originally? The Patriots are in no position to object to Walsh talking with the commissioner even if he does have dirt on them. Had they not agreed to the terms, they'd be in trouble with the league again.

It's not a bad choice, but there have been concerns over whether or not he'll be able to play left tackle in the NFL, considering his less-than-stellar agility. He may end up being a great right tackle. I'd have taken Chris Long if I were the Dolphins.

Maybe, maybe not, it depends on how well he performs in the long run. The pick isn't the important thing in my eyes though, they signed him before the draft for good reasons.
They didn't want to be held hostage during negotiations, after he was selected. With all the holdouts over the last several years, after the draft, Parcells was smart to get a deal done this early. That way, Long actually has the time to learn the team's scheme and system.
I agree with letting the team with the number one pick do this, I'm a little conflicted on whether teams with picks after that should be allowed to do it too, though. Seems like that would lead to a lot of trades after the draft, which would be a headache for everyone.

As for teams other than the first negotiating pre-draft... IMO, if the team with the first pick signs a deal (as is the case this year), the team with the second pick should be able to begin negotiations... and hypothetically, if they got a deal too, then the third team, and so on. But not otherwise

Apparently according to ESPN, after the Long deal became knowledge the NFL went to the Rams and told them point blank: You cannot annouce who your pic is nor negotiate with them until the draft starts.

I found that policy a little stupid. The other teams should be afforded the opportunity to better their teams through the draft, and that should include, when possible, to try to avoid holdouts. I think the Rams should have been allowed to start negotiations with Chris Long early in the week, and if they finished, the Falcons should have then be allowed to start negotiations with Matt Ryan. And so on, up until, let's say, 12:01 in the morning on draft day. Makes sense to me.
