Yep. I'm not overly optimistic about the non-Division schedule (Indy, Pats, Chargers, Jax - always a big rivalry game for them, and just about everybody else...) but I think we've got a pretty good shot at winning the AFC North. Baltimore probably will not be very good. Cincy has it's issues, and we'll find out a lot more about Derek Anderson this season for Cleveland.

Yeah, I think Pit will still take the North. It isn't like the other teams get off easy. Cle, Balt and Cincy all have to play the AFC South and NFC East too. It would obviously be better to not play SD or NE, but Cle gets Den which shouldn't be that easy and who knows how Buf will be. I'm assuming Balt and Cincy won't really be in the running for the Division title. I suppose Cincy's Off gives them a shot in any game, but I just think Pit and Cle are the top of the Division.

The good news is everyone is on the Cle bandwagon, so there is a high probability they will finish under .500. tongue

I hope this stupid Pats video taping thing is finally done.

This is such a non-story at this point. They were caught and punished already. Arlen Specter, get over it.
I suppose it comes with having 24 hr news cycles and ESPN needing to fill the time or have something new to talk about on NFL Live, but sheesh.

BREAKING NEWS: Football players in the 70's, 80's, 90's used steriods and Merriman and Harrision are cheaters.

But the idea of an Independent investigation is laughable.
Congress sure as heck has more to do then worry about Football tapes and signals.
Gee I wonder why Congress's approval is lower than Bush's.

What the heck would be the point of an Independent investigation? People can already call the Pats cheaters if they want or people can ignore it. What are they now going to be considered double cheaters or triple cheaters?
There is no way the NFL is going to retractively take away wins or superbowl titles so it is just beyond stupid at this point.

At least we know there is no cheating in college sports (looks at USC). rolling_eyes

//end rant.

NFL Owners Consider Voiding CBA.

(from MSN.com)

The NFL's Collective Bargaining Agreement, as it now stands, may be a short-lived deal.

What it all meansConfused by the details of the NFL labor agreement? Fear not. Alex Marvez tells you what will happen — and what won't — if owners decide to opt out of the CBA. Check it out HERE. In a series of conference calls this week, NFL owners have seriously discussed voiding the current labor agreement, FOXSports.com has learned. Team owners believe the current labor agreement, which gives players 59 percent of the defined gross revenues, is too lopsided in favor of the NFLPA.

The opt-out could come at Tuesday's spring meeting.

After a conference call Friday between high-level owners and executives, indications are that the league is leaning toward opting out. NFLPA executive director Gene Upshaw expects the deal to be voided on Tuesday, according to the players' association Web site.

Only nine votes from NFL owners are needed to abort the CBA in 2011 rather than 2013.

"It's hard to predict Tuesday that (owners) are going to nuke the CBA," a high-ranking team executive told FOXSports.com. "I don't think that's accurate right now, but the subject is going to come up whether this is a better time than in November. There's a broad concern that (the NFL) doesn't want this to become a focus that takes away from the regular season.

"Everyone agrees that we want to maintain a strong, competitive league. There is a mindset that this is a step along the way that helps clarify things. It seems rather obvious the league is going to opt out. Rather than have that looming, let's get that behind us, roll up our sleeves and get to work on a new CBA."

League and union officials held talks about the labor agreement last week. Discussions will continue even if the deal is voided, sources told FOXSports.com, but no date has been set to resume talks.

Should the owners in fact make the move next week, it would dramatically alter the NFL's landscape for the next few years. Such a significant move would make the 2009 campaign the last year in which the salary cap is in effect. 2010 would be uncapped. The NFL would also still have a draft in 2011, but beyond that everything else would be up in the air.

The owners have until November 8th to void the current agreement.

"I think deadlines are helpful in trying to get things resolved," commissioner Roger Goodell said at April's NFL owners meeting. "Any time a deadline can be established to force us into reaching an agreement on a particular issue, that's helpful to us."

While it appears likely that owners will opt out of the deal, several owners and executives indicated Friday that things could still change once everyone comes together at Tuesday's meeting. Still, there seems to be a general consensus that if the decision is going to be made to void the deal, it makes sense to do it sooner rather than later.

Calls for comment to both the commissioner's office and Upshaw on Friday have not yet been returned. However, Upshaw and upper NFLPA management are expected in Atlanta, which could lead to CBA dialogue.

The NFL and the players association have renewed the CBA five times, the most recent coming in March 2006. In that vote, the owners ratified the agreement by a 30-2 count, extending the labor deal through the 2011 season.

"The objective is to get a labor agreement, one that works for both parties," Goodell said last month. "That's what we're working towards. Obviously as part of planning we have to look at various alternatives. The reality is, and I think the union understands this, and we certainly understand this, you can grow your business better if you're in partnership. That's what having labor peace helps you do. That's one of the things we clearly understand. I believe the union fully agrees with that. That's what we're going to continue to try to do."

And now it is official, NFL Owners Opt Out Of Labor Agreement.

(from foxsports.com)

ATLANTA (AP) - NFL owners have voted unanimously to shorten their labor agreement, meaning the current contract will end in 2011 instead of 2013.

A new deal must be in place by March 2009 to avoid a 2010 season without a salary cap. However, the NFL says that even without a new agreement there will be no interruption of play for at least the next three seasons.
NFL owners have been concerned that the current contract leans too far toward the players, who now get 60 percent of total team revenues. Owners also say profits have declined because of economic conditions.

I'm sure the players like the idea, since they'd probably get more money. Not that they don't make plenty as is.

Not surprising in the least. Look for Selvin Young to step up and be the #1 with Michael Pittman and Andre Hall in the mix as well.

Sig bet?

Giants were a fluke last year, not that they didn't play well enough to win, but they will not repeat. What's Philly done lately? They still have Reid, and the still have a QB, that while he's been quiet in the offseason, is still a primadonna.

And yes, I'm loling and rolling my eyes just as hard as you that the Cowboys picked up PacMan-Thug. I'm just waiting for them to pick up Chad Johnson, so that they can get a summer prison league going. tongue

I don't think the Giants are a fluke (I wish that they are, however). If Eli continues to play smart, disciplined football, as he did at the end of the year and the playoffs, the Giants will be right back in there next season.

As to the Eagles, I am not the biggest fan of Reid (I don't think he can win the big game), but he does have success in the regular season. I am also optimistic about this team. I think for the first time in a few years, they have a really good defense, as they did at the beginning of the decade. McNabb is a prima donna, but he found his groove at the end of the season last year. If he plays that way this season and stays healthy, the Eagles will be tough this year.

As to the Cowboys, I believe that this team is going to completely self-destruct (the seeds of which can be seen by their collapse at the end of last year). They have too many bad characters in their lockeroom. Their coach is an idiot and that team is going to run all over him this year. Phillips is to much everyone's friend on the team to successfully run it. He also lacks good game management skills to win close games. Finally, Romo is totally overrated. He plays well when the Cowboys get off to a quick start and a big lead. He is terrible in close games and in any game he faces adversity. Jones is going to regret ever giving him that huge payday.

In a week that saw Pacman Jones being given limited reinstatement and allowed to practice and participate in training camp and preseason, Odell Thurman has once again been suspended for another entire NFL year, just weeks after being given resinstatement.
