So, I'm watching the pre-game on ESPN and had no idea that the Eagles have an offensive package called the "Spread Eagle".

Really? The "Spread Eagle"?

laugh

Thought that one through, didn't they?

looking at the stats and watching games i'd take orton in a heartbeat. MENTALLY he's the better QB, and that's what matters a bit more than physically. a good example of this would be aaron brooks. dude was talented and could put up CRAZY numbers at times, but he made some of the most mind boggling mental mistakes/lapses i've ever seen. or need i mention the gross one? same thing, talented but does the EXACT SAME THINGS as cutler, forcing the ball into bad situations. you can't tell me that physical giftedness is all there is. all you gotta do is luck at jamarcus to answer that question.
Agreed. Cutler may be extremely gifted physically, but he suffers from an extremely less talented coaching staff in Chicago compared to what he had in Denver last year, and also compared to what Orton has in Denver this year. The Bears' coaching staff is too busy kissing his butt to provide the level of coaching necessary to make Cutler a better player. Unless something changes there, he's not going to get any better.

lol, well I guess I'm done trying to get you to see my point. I didn't say Williams should have been playing 20 yards off waiting for the offense to come to him, I said he isn't supposed to let anyone get behind him.

Uh, except that is what you were saying, at least originally. Maybe not "20 yards off" exactly, but you said "Roy Williams was the deep safety, but instead of staying back and keeping his position, he decided to jump into the play and go for the big hit on Marshall."

And again, Roy Williams' position on that play was to fly off the seam into the receiver on his side of the Cover 2. His position was not to "stay back," because he wasn't playing the prevent and in fact the ball had already been thrown to the receiver. To suggest that simply because some fluke happened that he should have had the foresight to break assignment is simply ludicrous, especially considering the situation of the game.

Grimby the Hutt posted:
Of course he's supposed make the tackle in that situation. But first he should make sure the ball actually makes it to the receiver. He clearly didn't do that, and didn't even bother to notice what his corner was doing before shooting in for the hit. All he had to do was move in on Marshall, keep an eye on the ball, and attempt to make a play on it. Had he done that, he would have seen the tip and would have been in position somewhere in between Marshall and Stokely with a chance to knock it away. You can clearly see on the replay that he isn't even looking for the ball when he moves in for the hit, which he's been known to do in the past.

He saw the ball thrown to the receiver, saw Hall leap into the air at it, and then came in to do his job and take the open intended receiver out of the play, who was behind the obviously leaping Hall at that point. In fact, had Stokely not been in the right place at the right time, Roy taking out Marshall would even have prevented the tip drill.

The fact that you needed to find fault with somebody, though-- Williams, then Crocker, then "well either way it's bad defense," then Williams again-- again really shows kind of a reach at the point, which was that the Bengals played bad defense. Which they didn't. The Broncos didn't outscheme them, the Broncos didn't outplay them...but with respect to Obi-Wan Kenobi, I'll stop short of saying it was just luck.

But yeah. Anyway. Hope you have a great game today (except I am playing Flacco in fantasy, so maybe let him get a few completions? tongue ).

It's bad enough that they're showing the Seahawks/Cowboys as the only early game here, which nobody wants to watch, but in the pregame for it they explained that they will be playing with the roof closed because it's too hot at over 70 degrees. Are you ****ing kidding me?

First off, their roof is open.

Second, does it really ruin a viewer at home's experience if it hadn't been?

Third, can you honestly say you'd rather watch the Titans drop their 7th in a row, as an early game rather than a later game?

Despite the rough start, I enjoyed the Colts/Niners game. It was nice to watch the Colts have to show some heart and make a comeback.

lol @ Addai's TD pass and the fact that Manning didn't have one

Nope. Closed. The whole game too.

That's irrelevant. What's the point of having it closed on a nice day?

Now, regarding the Colts game - that one was too close, but I'm glad to see the Colts gut those wins out. Hope to see Brown back in the line-up next week.

Hey, the Cardinals run defense is back in form.

Edit: Also, Vince Young seems to be doing OK. And NFL.com is hosting a special FavreCam at the GB/Vikes game. Please.
