He was my Dad's favorite fighter....
The younger Oscar De La Hoya emulated his (Arguello's) style.
It still stings some of his fans that they never found out what was in the bottle Panama Lewis "Mixed"......

Considering Pryor beat him in the rematch, I don't think there was anything worth noting.

^^One fight has nothing to do with the other.
That is like saying...Jason Giambi took steroids, but he hit a home run after his suspension, so case closed......
I am not saying Pryor wasn't the best fighter during those fights, I am bringing up the fact that that has been a huge controversy. Most true boxing fans still talk about that fight. I mean, a trainer yelling.."Give me the bottle...NO, the one I mixed!" Then disposing of it after the fight so it could not be tested, is kind of crazy. Pryor drank that after getting Whacked and dazed by Arguello.....
On another note....
Spike, have you heard anything out of the Hatton camp? Is he going to retire or fight on?
Also,
Pacquiao and Cotto are negotiating.
Pacman is a more talented fighter, IMO, but Cotto will enter the ring at about 160! I don't like that matchup for Manny. G.Leon thinks Pacman will knock Cotto out....I guess we will see.

Pacquiao is fully capable of knocking out a bigger fighter. And the Oscar can be used as reference, seeing how bad he had him reeling.

Oscar entered the ring at a little under the 147 LB weight limit.
Historically, when Oscar fought at welterweight, he rehydrated to the mid 150's.
So that is not really a good example.
Don't get me wrong, I think Pacquiao can win the fight. But something like the Billy Conn, and Joe Louis fight could happen also.

I would normally expect Cotto to beat Pacman because of the huge weight difference.
But...after seeing what Pacman did to Hatton, and considering the battering Cotto has already taken from the fight with Margarito, and also the punishment he took from Clottey, I wonder how much punishment he can take from a fast, hard punching fighter like Pacman.
I don't see the ODLH - Pacman fight as relevant, as ODLH was so weight-drained that the fight was unfair.
Heard nothing from the Hatton camp. Word is that he may come out for one last fight, possibly against Amir Khan if he beats Kotelnik for the WBA 140 title, and then retire on a high (assuming he can beat Khan)

Question:
Who would have won between a young Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. at 147 pounds?

I'd personally say Sugar Ray.

I thin Sugar Ray had a little more power. I actually think Floyd might be a little faster.
I would lean towards SRL also.

Can't wait. I think Cotto can last a little longer than Ricky did.
Khan now a world champion. An all British super-fight with Hatton is on the cards methinks.

Did you see Frank Warren say Ricky should retire?
The fight would be good for boxing....I hope Hatton is healthy enough though.

If not, and Hatton does retire, word is that Junior Witter could step up in a unification bout (provided he beats Alexander for the WBC title).
