Well, the off season is upon us in full. The Winter GM meetings are going. A-Rod resigned with the Yankees, and we've got our first big trade. So, it's about time we had a thread to track all the rumors, comings, and goings.
To start with: Cabrera, Willis to Detroit
Obviously, as an Indians fan, I don't like this. That Detroit lineup was too good before it added Cabrera, and the rotation was solid enough that it didn't need Willis. I can only hope Shapiro has something good up his sleeve to counter this.

I'll go ahead and mention the three trades Atlanta has made this offseason, though only one was actually at these meetings.
First: Edgar Renteria to the Tigers for two prospects, an outfielder who definitely isn't ready for the majors yet and a pitcher who will compete for the final 1-2 spots in the rotation, though is an outside shot to actually start the year in Atlanta at this point. Haven't seen enough about the prospects to determine if the Braves really got value for Renteria, but Yunel Escobar should fill the hole at shortstop nicely, so I'm not too worried.
Second: Oscar Villarreal to the Astros for Josh Anderson, a speedy young outfielder. I liked Villarreal as a long reliever, but Anderson as it stands now could be the starting center fielder next year, which would give the Braves some nice speed that has been missing since the departure of Rafael Furcal to the Dodgers.
And Third: pitching prospect Jose Ascanio to the Cubs for Omar Infante and lefty reliever Will Ohman. Ohman fills the need for a lefty in the 'pen with the (almost certain) departure of Ron Mahay in free agency, though Royce Ring will also compete for a bullpen spot. Infante will serve as a backup/utitity infielder that will probably see most of his time backing up Escobar at short, but can also fill in for Chipper or KJ at third or second as necessary. Though there are certainly questions about his performance, I expect he will likely do better than Chris Woodward did in that role this past year, though that isn't really saying much.
Add the signing of Glavine and the Braves have been fairly busy this offseason

Andruw Jones is off the market
Wow. I'm going to disagree with the Dodgers brass here and say that Andruw Jones is not worth $18 million a year. That's an absurd amount of money, and is only going to drive up the price for the more talented players. The only saving grace on this contract is that it's only for two years, and not a long-term deal.

According to the NY Post, the Mets think the Tigers would be willing to unload Willis. They also think they have a good chance of getting Santana.

There's also apparently been talks between the Pirates and Indians about Jason Bay. The Indians are in the market for a starting corner outfielder who could bring some pop, but Mark Shapiro denies that the sides have had any serious discussion or that they have gotten anywhere near a deal.
Best rumor I saw was Cliff Lee to the Pirates for Jason Bay. I like it.

All of the good players from my beloved/cheap Oakland Athletics will be in Boston or one of the New York teams
Danny Haren most notably.

Very surprised Andruw got that much money, apparently his poor performance this year only hurt him in terms of length and not so much in terms of dollars/year. I wish him the best, though.

Huge discussion in the SF Bay Area about a possible trade between the Giants and the Blue Jays involving Tim Lincecum and Alex Rios.
It's a paradox for Giants fans: Either you keep "The Franchise" and lose your best chance to get a real bat, or trade away one of the most explosive rookies from last year. After all the hype surrounding Lincecum, it would be a real shame to only have him for one year

Not gonna happen. Also, the Rios thing is still active, if not heading somewhere.

Really either way the Giants shoot themselves in the foot with either deal.

I'm kind of excited to see where Fukodome goes. Naturally I hope the Cubs get him. The thing about players from Japan is that they either sink or swim. Dice-K was a dissapointment in the long run when you had that hype

Buster Olney is reporting the Indians may become a surprise winner of the Dan Haren sweepstakes.
Bay + Haren would be a dream off-season (especially if it also includes extending CC Sabathia). I'd say acquiring Bay and Haren would be a bigger impact than Cabrera and Willis, even.

NOOOOOOO! lol
It is only a matter of time before Haren and Blanton leave. It is hard being an A's fan. I hope with the new Stadium that they will be building, they will be able to make some more money to keep their own players. Their farm system is second to none.
I read on SI.com that whoever does not land Santana, would go after Haren. If Haren goes to a team with some decent bats, he will be a 20-25 game winner.

If the Indians were to land deals with Dan Haren and Jason Bay, I'd be the happiest person in the world. It would make the Indians pitching virtually unstoppable (3 Cy Young candidates, with Westbrook, Sowers, Byrd, Lee...). It would be the only duo that could counter the Tiger's trade.
I'm rather scared of the Tigers next year, and the Red Sox. The Tigers, Indians, and Red Sox will be the three best teams in the AL (and MLB) next year, I have a feeling. Hopefully the Red Sox will have a down season like many do after reaching the World Series ('05 Red Sox, '07 Cardinals & Tigers, etc.).
