These type of threads seem to do well in Amph, so I thought we could try one here.
Basically, if you've watched any college football on ESPN/ABC this year, you've seen that they've been counting down their choices for the top 25 greatest players in college football with number one to be revealed at th Rose Bowl.
So, I thought we'd go through the list, comment on the players listed, the list in general, who's too high, who's too low, who got snubbed, etc.
So, without further ado:
25: Ernie Nevers
Played at Stanford in the '20's. Was the MVP of the 1925 Rose Bowl, and was named to the NFL's All-Decade team for the 1920's. The best highlights I could find
It's a little hard for me to comment here, as I've never seen him play. But I welcome the rest of you to.

Yeah, just a little hard to comment on players that had died at a nice old age (or at least after a good long life) nearly a decade before you were born
Seems to have been pretty good, though, which I suppose is why he's on this list.

Yeah, I just wanted to see if we'd get any more interest in Nevers.
Anyway ...
24. Reggie Bush
Played at USC from 2003-2005. Member of the 2004 National Champion and Orange Bowl winning team. Won the Heisman trophy in 2005. Has an infamous play named for him (the "Bush Push").
Well, this one has the opposite problem of the first one. I don't think history has given us a chance to really put Reggie Bush in perspective. He's too recent in our memories, in my opinion, to be evaluated fairly. Still, in an era of "faster, stronger, smarter", he was literally a threat to score EVERY time he touched the ball, and I think history might show that #24 might be right, or even a little low.

He was the most exciting player to play college football in some time. He was one of the most versatile players, throwing TD's, punt returns, kick returns, playing Rb and WR.
One of the things that does not get mentioned is that he shared time with Lendale white. He might not have been an everydown back, according to some, but with a few more carries or touches a game, he might have put up even better numbers.

Bush was not at USC and will never be any everydown back. He does not have the build to be any everydown back. Look at what happened to him NO this year after McAllister went down.

Agree that this one is almost too recent to put into perspective. Great player, though, that probably does deserve to be on this list.

His play in the NFL has nothing to do with this list or his college play.
Money or accusations don't either. What he did on the feild can not be denied.

Oh yes they do. Incentives give a player an advantage over others in the collegiate level. I believe a great player is not only made by his on-field prowess, but his outside life as well. Of course, it's nearly impossible to have someone like that, but then again, that's why this is only made of 25 guys.

No it doesn't. The oppenents still have to tackle him. Are you saying the defenses he played against were holding back because they weren't getting money?
This wasn't a greates human being list. It was a list of great college players.
Was Ty Cobb not a great baseball player? How about Babe Ruth? What they did on the feild of play has nothing to do with their personal life. You might not like it, but Reggie Bush was a great college player, period.

Disagreed, compare Reggie Bush to other great running backs and he comes up short, hes far to small to be an every down back (like was previously said) and still doesn't have the explosiveness of the big guys. Bo Jackson or Hershel Walker (who should have been #1).

Im not so sure Bush was even the best running back in his years at USC. You had guys like Laurence Maroney, DeAngelo Williams, Maurice Jones-Drew, and Adrian Peterson running around. I'd take 3 out of those 4 listed above Bush any day of the week. Great talent but im not sure he's worthy of #24.

Bush wasn't even the best running back at USC during his years there. LenDale White was the best back on the team. Bush made the flashy plays and got the glory. But White was the engine that drove those USC championship teams. Not only did he run for over 100 yards in almost every game, he also set the team record for total touchdowns and with all the Heisman trophy winners in USC's history, that is saying a lot.
