He might have won a set if he kept his temper.

Kept his temper? What happened? All I saw was the result.

I thought Roddick would take a set as well. Roddick was on a role.

Federer has single handedly ruined Roddick's career. Roddick is 07- at major against him and 2-16 overall. If there was no Federer, Roddick would likely have 2 to 4 more grand slams. He certainly would have at least one Wimbledon and probably another US Open or 2.
t the same time, imagine if there was no Nadal. How many slams in a row would Federer have won? Because he had (I don't remember how long of a streak) of majors where he either won it, or got eliminated by Nadal.

If there is no Nadal, Federer has won the Grand Slam twice, and at least 4 more Slams overall. Though I think Nadal would have a few more if Fed wasn't there as well. Easily 2 of the greatest players of all time.

Also Nadal is having an epic against Verdasco right now. I've been watching it and well, holy ****.

And as I type this Nadal wins.

Holy crap. Epic match. I hope Nadal isn't too tired to do his best against Federer (as much as I despise butt-pickers.)

Obviously he wasn't, as he wins in 5.

I don't think there's much debate that Nadal is in Federer's head now.

Indeed Marcus, Nadal just has Federer's number and part of it is mental on Federer's part.

I gotta say though, i found it kinda lame when Federer started crying. I could understand he would have done that if he would have won and tied with Pete, but he lost... i dunno, maybe i'm taking it the wrong way, but it just felt kinda 'sore loser' to me.

If I was prevented from reaching such a milestone so many times, I'd cry once in a while. Federer just showed how competitive he truly is. It must be hell to be so close, yet to fall short several times.

So many times? Considering he won the US Open, this is the *first* time he's had a chance to match Sampras's record. Maybe if it was the French I'd be more sympathetic.

I meant that as in "moving towards" Sampras' record. Without Nadal in his way, Federer definitely would have matched/surpassed the record earlier in his career. So yes, I stand by "so many times."

I just got back from watching Stepanek upset Roddick in the SAP Open semis. What a roller coaster of a match! Andy seemed to dominate the first set, but Stepanek managed to use what was given to him and played around the humongous forehands dished out by Roddick. It was a much more entertaining match than last year's finals (between the same two players).

That's cool. I have never been to a pro tennis match. Mainly because there are no tournamnets in the south except for Memphis and Florida.

I was also surprised by Fish beating Blake handily. Roddick should be able to bounce back next week in Memphis, which is a 500-level event.

In the Rotterdam 500 event, Murray plays Nadal in the final today.

I'm pretty fortunate to live close to the SAP Open, and it's really fascinating to see the pros up close. I sat 3 rows above court side, and got to hear Roddick curse after every missed shot. tongue

Blake was really bothered by an ankle injury. He had to pull out of his doubles semifinal match yesterday evening (which disappointed me, because I would have liked to seen he and Fish play in person).

Andy Murray won Rotterdam over Rafa in 3 sets (6-3, 4-6, 6-0). Rafa's knees gave out in the second set.

Congrats to Andy for another tournament win.

In other tennis news (WTA Tennis), UAE refused Shahar Peer of Israel a visa to play in Dubai even though she was qualified to play in the tournament.

It has been reported (by a not very reliable paper) that Amelie Mauresmo of France after her tournament win in Paris over Elena Dementieva siad that it's not acceptable that she (Shahar Peer) was denied a visa.

What do tennis enthusiasts think?
