The men's semis are set: Federer-Haas and Roddick-Murray

I don't see Haas making it very close, despite how well he's done so far in the tournament. Just look back a couple weeks ago in the French Open. Roger has just played tremendously this tournament, and he has too many weapons for Tommy to handle. No matter how it turns out, it will be very pleasant to see two one-handers fight it out for once! Also, I believe Murray can beat Roddick relatively easily, especially with the crowd behind him. Rest shouldn't be an issue for them, but Murray had an easy time with Ferrero today while Roddick slugged it out in 5 with Hewitt. I'm predicting Federer in straight sets and Murray in 4 close ones.

Yeah, I actually think Murray and Fed will cruise to the final. My predictions were fair at best for the quarters, I really thought Murray was going to run out of gas this round, and I completely underestimated Haas.

Federer has played a lot of tiebreak sets in the last few rounds, and Haas fought off 3 set points to win a close 2nd set tiebreak today against Novak. He may get one from Roger that way, but I think it ends in straight sets.

Unless Roddick jumps on Murray early like Wawrinka did two rounds ago--when the crowd was completely silent until Murray got himself together in the 2nd--I think he goes down relatively quick. Murray is too crafty, and Roddick too mistake-prone.

A Federer-Murray final would be interesting and give me reason to once again arise very early to watch (as I did last year, to my everlasting thankfulness). Federer had much of the crowd last year, and he would be almost completely without it in the event he faces Murray for the title. I can't see anything but a Federer title, but surprises are always possible. The crowd would go bananas if Murray made a real battle of it, let alone took the title.

IIRC, doesn't Murray have a very good record against Federer?

Yes, he had or has a winning record against him before last yr's US Open final, where he got housed by Federer. I just remember they were building that up a lot in the pre-match coverage.

Serena over Dementieva in 3, was a struggle (6-7 7-5 8-6). Dementieva with plenty of chances but she is not, and will never be, a finisher. Could not win the points when it counted (though she was pretty unlucky in the second set, I think...2 break chances that she lost by millimetres.)

Yeah, Elena lacks that killer instinct that the Williams sisters have always seemed to possess. At least since they matured past their teens. Elena's a great player but she's not a closer when she needs to be.

Venus' domination of the fragile minded Safina was also not surprising. Safina is the same as Dementieva (both Russian oddly) where she lacks the mental focus to close big matches. She's like her brother that way...also Marat had some real skills, imo.

I think Federer will eat Haas' lunch tomorrow; The Andy-final will be a good match but there's too much working against Roddick (the five setter in particular and the crowd) that will keep him from getting smacked around by Federer in the final.

Federer takes it to another level when it's for all the marbles, and there's no collection of marbles bigger than Wimbledon.

I think Roddick will cause an upset tomorrow. I'm not sure how big of an impact the 5-setter against Hewitt will have on him, though..

Roddick always struck me as a nice guy. I hope he gets to the final.

I only want roddick to beat Murray if he goes on to win the whole thing. I do not want to see Federer beat roddikc in another final.

I only want Roddick to win if Federer doesn't win his semi. Also, I do not want Venus to win.

I couldn't agree with you more. Murray, in my opinion, will put up the better fight in the final, but I'm not sure either of them will push Roger a whole lot.
