Roddick showed the heart of a champion today. I really hope he gets his own Wimbledon title before he's done.

Amazing match, 15 is unbelievable. And I agree, I really hope to see Roddick win Wimbledon one day as well, he truly deserves to.

Fantastic match. I was torn as to who I wanted to win. Nice to see history made but I feel awful for Roddick. He didn't deserve to lose today. If he hadn't gotten nerves in the second set tiebreak, Federer would have been out of it. That'll haunt him, I'm sure.

A bit too business-like to be as good as last year's.

Also, Federer's little outfit is kind of tacky, IMO. He should get a gold cane as well though if he's going to stick with it.

Roddick had had many tough losses in his career yet he keeps fighting. Will he keep fighting after this loss? The toughest one yet? History says yes.

I think the better player lost today. Federer was unreal on his serving but Roddick outplayed him most of the match

Am I the only one who felt that the match wasn't as epic as it's being suggested?

I thought last year's final was a lot better. This match was long and gruelling, but it didn't have the amazing winners that last year's match did. Both of them held serve brilliantly, but that's the only reason it went on for so long. Roddick's become so much more better and played brilliantly, but I felt like Federer was playing at about par.

At the end of it, I was just waiting for someone to break.

Federer was a little condescending in the post-match interview, as well. He was focusing so much on winning 15 and saying "You'll win it, Andy", I don't think he quite realized what it must've felt like to Roddick who has won only 1 slam all his career. I could understand why Roddick looked a bit hacked off with him.

It was just a serving clinic. But it was still very impressive that Roddick had to hold 10 times in a row when failure to would have cost him the match.

Last year's final was better, and considerably so if I may so. It was the two best players in the world, with the intangibles that I mentioned above, and more long rallies between Federer and Nadal than between Federer and Roddick. More unbelievable points and just a higher level of tennis overall. Add in the rain delays and the fading light and so on, and it was just a better match.

This was a great match as well, though. Certainly better than most. Last year was just transcendent, and it has a place in sports history, not just tennis history.

Man, for the second consecutive year I'm very disappointed with the outcome of an incredible tennis match. Hard not to feel for Roddick after what he left out on the court, and he may never get the opportunity again, what with Nadal not playing at all this year and his streaky play.

I agree with KW that this wasn't even close to last year's match...but that's saying more about last year's match than this one.

I don't think it's fair to compare this final to last years. Nadal and Roddick are two very different players.

I think this match was very entertaining. The service game of both players was awsome. Both players serves were very Samprasesque...if you will.

This match showed how good Federer is. Roddick played his game, a very good one. But, it was not enough for the best player of this generation.

I think Roddick will indeed win one, if he can work a little more on his ground game. He has the serve, but I don't see the foot speed of a Nadal, or Federer.

Anyway, great Final!

I'd say yesterday was an incredibly tense match, but somewhat lacking in entertainment due to the tremendous serves of both players. Too many games the person returning was just blown off the court.

I've always hated Roddick, but even I felt bad for him yesterday. Incredibly gutsy performance, really played his absolute best, but it wasn't quite enough.

The thing with the match yesterday (one of the few tennis matches I've watched much of live in recent years) was that I had this odd feeling that Roddick was going to win -- he just looked so dominant on his serve. As the 5th set wore on though, I got this feelign that was about to change -- Roddick seemed so reliant on his first serve, sooner or later he had to start getting tired, and start to have problems with is first serve. Sure enough, in that last game, his first serve failed him repeatedly, and Federer was able to take advantage.

As for "best", did anyone see the McEnroe interview with Sampras, Laver and Borg? Sampras, who was incredibly gracious and classy, hedged a bit on that question, especially with respect to Laver.

I also felt as the set went on that Federer would win. What was amazing was that Federer's serve just kept getting better and better.

Yeah, those last 2-3 service games he just blew Roddick off the court, which meant incredible pressure on Roddick having to serve out of hole.

As for the place of the match in history, certainly not the best match ever (last year's final at #1 and Borg-Mac at #2) but maybe the best serving in any match ever. Two of the best servers in the history of the game, bot with a very high first serve percentage, very few break chances and only 3 breaks in 5 sets. Incredible.
