Story here

I'm shocked that he's going to go out with that INT in the NFC title game as his last play.

Wow.

So amazing, I'm making a new thread and not just posting it in the NFL Thread.

Rather surprising, I wouldn't have thought he'd want to go out on such a down note.

I find it rather fitting, though.

I'm actually not too bummed about this. Time to get on with the show, let's give Rodgers a shot.

I will make it legal[/obligatory]

So, where does Favre rank on your all-time list of quarterbacks? Best ever to win a Superbowl but not win a Superbowl MVP?

He's certainly the toughest. Probably the most popular of all time as well. I am a Packer fan but I can't say he's the greatest overall. Too many clutch situations I can remember where he didn't come through. I will say he made throws I don't think any of the other greats could make.

Wow.

I'm not much of a Favre fan, but this is still shocking and now that its finally come, upsetting. Shame he didn't get to give a proper goodbye to the fans on the field.

I don't see what's so earth-shattering about the announcement. The guy has played professional football at such a high level for 17 years. Each year for the past five years there has been talk of his retirement. I say, good for him. Go home and enjoy time with the kids, make tons of money doing broadcasting, and enjoy the good life.

Favre is a class act and he will be appropriately honored by the NFL, the Pack, and the fans. I have no doubt the favor will be returned by him.

Favre has been Wisconsin's hero for so long. This is going to be strange w/o him.

I'm a Favre fan. I know that he did throw a lot of picks during his career, but he also threw a lot of TDs and his team won the Super Bowl twice. I'd probably say that he's one of the top three quarterbacks not to win the Super Bowl MVP.

Because he's always talked about retirement but never actually retired?

I know I'm very surprised, I figured he'd go at least a couple more years. That said, good for him, and I hope he enjoys retirement.

They went to two SBs but only won once.
