I'm waiting to see who decides to run against him. There are usually some ringer horses in the Belmont who like the longer distances so they don't run in the shorter first two races.

Which may be why we've had more than a few win the first two races but not the Belmont since the last Triple Crown winner, I'm assuming? Or at least part of the reason.

I never did claim to be an expert in horse racing. I usually watch at least one of the three Triple Crown events each year, sometimes two or three (this year, the Derby), but thats about it. I'll leave the expert stuff to horsey.

Well, they need to run Big Brown the same as the first two races; hang with the lead pack and then outrun them in the stretch. He has basically been on cruise control the first two races hardly breaking a sweat to whip the other horses in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness.

Yup, quite frequently it is a fresh horse that comes in out of nowhere to win at the longer distance and we've had quite a few who came in Second to this fresher horse who was able to give a little extra for the last few furlongs.

Does anyone remember a few years ago when Smarty Jones was going for the crown in the Belmont. He has the lead in the final stretch and the announcer was pulling for Smarty Jones so bad, that when Birdstone came from behind and barely won he asid "Birdstone wins the Belmont Stakes" , in a very dissapointed voice? I have always loved that

Yeah, the racing industry wants another Triple Crown winner so badly right now.
Here's a little history on the Belmont:
The Belmont's Age
One thing the Belmont does have over the Derby is that it is the oldest of the three Triple Crown events. The Belmont predates the Preakness by six years, the Kentucky Derby by eight. The first running of the Belmont Stakes was in 1867 at Jerome Park, on, believe it or not, a Thursday. At a mile and five furlongs, the conditions included an entry fee of $200, half forfeit with $1,500 added. Furthermore, not only is the Belmont the oldest Triple Crown race, but it is the fourth oldest race overall in North America. The Phoenix Stakes, now run in the fall at Keeneland as the Phoenix Breeders' Cup, was first run in 1831. The Queen's Plate in Canada made its debut in 1860, while the Travers in Saratoga opened in 1864. However, since there were gaps in sequence for the Travers, the Belmont is third only to the Phoenix and Queen's Plate in total runnings.

I still contend that Smarty Jones should have won the Belmont, but the Jockey screwed up. He took the horse out front and set the pace early, and was leading for much of the race. You could almost see the Jockey having visions of an almost wire to wire win. But then he was challenged at the end, and because he ran the horse too hard early, he didn't have enough left to win the race.
The Belmont is a beast of a race, but I think Big Brown might be able to do it.

FYI: Big Brown is injured
Gives a little more pause to any thinking of the triple crown being a "lock".

Yeah, sounds like he'll race, but it certainly begs questions about whether he'll be at his best.
*waits for PETA to make fools of themselves over this*
