Surprisingly, the number 1 women's player is retiring immediately. Well, not so surprisingly, but she was at the top of the rankings at the time.
Any thoughts?

This is kind of ridiculous. She's not even going to play in the French Open? once you loose a bit a strength and youth time to retire huh. This just dosen't make any sense

I'm still trying to figure out which announcement surprised me more between Sorenstam and Henin... probably Sorenstam, but I certainly wasn't expecting either.
Pretty much going out on top, though.

I'm curious: if Henin had waited until the French Open, and had won it, would that have affected her decision? She had won the tournament 3 years in a row.
Also, is Maria Sharapova deserving of the sudden title of #1? Sharapova has recently been on a tear, having an overall record of 23-2 so far this year, including the Australian Open, in which she defeated Henin 6-4, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.

I wonder about that, as well. I bet she'll regret the French Open this year because of her dominance the last couple years.

I'd figured she'd go at the end of the season, not right now.
