Face of the Program

So, ESPN is running another pointless debate topic, this time looking at the Face of each NCAA Division 1-A football program.
They're doing it in three parts, alphabetically. Here's what they've got so far (Going through the map, so there's no real order here. It's almost west-to-east):
Hawaii: June Jones (Coach)
Cal: The Play (vs. Stanford)
Fresno State: Pat Hill (Coach)
Arizona: Jack Salmon (Quarterback)
Arizona State: Pat Tillman (Linebacker)
BYU: LaVell Edwards (Coach)
Idaho: Jerry Kramer (Guard/Kicker)
Boise State: Blue Turf
Colorado: Ralphie (Mascot)
Colorado State: Sonny Lubick (Coach)
Air Force: Fisher DeBerry (Coach)
Baylor: Grant Teaff (Coach)
Houston: Bill Yoeman (Coach)
Arkansas: Frank Broyles (Athletic Director)
Arkansas State: Bill Bergey (Linebacker)
Iowa State: Jack Trice (Tackle)
Iowa: Nile Kinnick (Running Back)
Illinois: Red Grange (Running Back)
Indiana: Anthony Thompson (Running Back)
Ball State: Brad Maynard (Punter)
Alabama: Bear Bryant (Coach)
Auburn: Bo Jackson (Running Back)
Florida State Bobby Bowden: (Coach)
Florida: Steve Spurrier (Coach/Quarterback)
Florida Atlantic: Howard Schnellenberger (Coach)
Floida International: Orange Bowl (Home Stadium)
Georgia Tech: Bobby Dodd (Coach)
Georgia: Herschel Walker (Running Back)
Clemson: Howard's Rock (Mystical Stone)
Duke: Wallace Wade (Coach)
East Carolina: Jeff Blake (Quarterback)
Cincinatti: Sid Gillman (Coach)
Bowling Green: Doyt Perry (Coach, Athletic Director)
Akron: Jason Taylor (Defensive End/Linebacker)
Eastern Michigan: Charlie Batch (Quarterback)
Central Michigan: Herb Deromedi (Coach, Athletic Director)
Buffalo: Leeland Jones (Quarterback)
Army: Glenn Davis and Doc Blanchard (Running Backs)
Connecticut: Lew Perkins (Athletic Director)
Boston College: Doug Flutie (Quarterback)
So ... the questions for discussion:
1) Who did they get right?
2) Who did they get wrong?
3) Who needs to be on the list for your team(s)?

Can I go ahead and stick in a lol@ESPN?
Most of the major ones are probably correct, certainly Bobby Bowden for FSU, but I have to laugh at the idea of a play, turf, stadium or rock being the "face" of the program.
I can't decide what South Carolina's should be. Probably either George Rogers or Sterling Sharpe, the best two players at the school. If it were of the current program, it would be Spurrier *gag*, but its not and he belongs at Florida as he is on this list.

Agreed. and, yes, lol @ ESPN.
I think the biggest gaffe on the list is Boise St. Yeah, perhaps they are best known as the school with the blue turf, but I don't think that's the face of that program, because it had nothing to do with what they are now famous for: the Fiesta Bowl against Oklahoma. I'd have to say in light of that, the face of the program should probably be Ian Johnson, who has the lasting memories of that night in most of our minds.
Here's a couple of easy ones to spot:
Miami (OH): Ben Roethlisberger
Utah: Alex Smith
Ohio State is a bit harder to pick. I'd say it'll probably be Woody, but I wouldn't be shocked to see it be The Vest or Archie.

If I took this seriously, I would have to disagree with The Play being Cal's "face." At least, I wish it wouldn't. The tragedy of Joe Roth, in my opinion, would have been a much better representative. But The Play, being The Play, is, after all, The Play.

Win.
And I agree with Inty that OSU's probably should be Woody, but Archie wouldn't surprise me at all either.

...and ESPN posts the next batch, and Woody Hayes is indeed the choice for Ohio State.
Comments on the next batch:
Miami - the U? really?
LSU - Saturday Night at Tiger Stadium? I think I made my opinion clear on this type of selection.
Louisiana-Lafayette - Tailgating? Thats the entire southeast, and to a lesser extent, the country.

They got Oregon 100% correct.
They went cheap on Ole Miss.
I'm disappointed in the choice for Miami (OH)
Overall, this list is going downhill, fast.

Yeah, they should have picked wither Archie or Eli, not both. Archie, really, except that Eli's much more recent and a new SB winner.

I don't need to hear about UO; what is it about them that is so great, anyway? Their mascot beating up on Houston's mascot?

How about Cocky?
Clemson has never had a big time super well known player so the rock is right I suppose.

For Clemson, how about Howard himself?
And while a mascot would be better as a "face" of a program than some of the other previously mentioned ones, I think it should be a player or coach. No coach really stands out, so thats why I say Rogers or Sharpe.
