Most or all AL-NL "rivalries".
Some at least have some reasoning, i.e., Yankees-Mets, Cubs-White Sox, and to a lesser extent Braves-Red Sox since the Braves were in Boston for a good chunk of their history... but those are still overplayed and many others have NO basis at all.

On further reflection, I think the Super Bowl might be the best answer here.
Most years, if it doesn't cure cancer and world hunger, the hype for the Super Bowl is a bit too much, even if the game is good. 
But I still stick with my answer of regular season YANKS-SAWKS games!

What about events that are overrated on reflection, not in hype? For instance, what "all-time classic bowl game" do you think rather "meh"?

As big as an upset it was, I'm pretty sure Super Bowl 3 wasn't exactly a thrilling game.

Figure skating competitions in the Olympics. I don't mind catching some of it but its the main focus every feak'n night.

I didn't really enjoy that Ohio State-Miami game a few years back. It's supposed to be a classic, but I just wasn't terribly entertained.
