The SUper Bowl generally is overrated. I'd also especially add a number of the closer Super Bowls of recent years (Cowboys-Steelers in the late 90s and Rams-Titans both come to mind), they were close games, but only because neither team really played very well.

I think that the Super Bowl is generally overrated, and although this was a one-time thing, the Daytona 500's 50th anniversary "bash"; which was completely stupid and ridiculous. *of course, I think that Dale Earnhardt Jr. is completely overrated but that doesn't belong here.*

You know it. The 2002 All-Star game was when I stopped giving a crap about the event, and to a lesser extent, MLB as a whole. I'm just getting sick of that AL unbeaten streak. It's not like the NL has been completely outclassed each and every time, they've had their chances to win a few of the past 11 games, it's just that it seems the NL has some incredibly bad karma. And whenever the NL wins the World Series the media considers it to be a major upset, as if the NL was lucky to even play in the same stadium as the AL champ. It's this anti-NL bias that makes me hate the American League with a passion. I don't hate the teams, mind you, just how the media portays the league as infinitely superior. The AL might be better, but it's not a chasm of a gap like the East and West of the NBA.
That said, while we were blessed with an entertaining All Star game this year, I think another reason why it should be done away with is that it's just another opportunity for the sport's stars to get hurt (I think the NFL has it right by having the Pro Bowl after the season, so if a star gets hurt it doesn't immediately affect his team, he has the whole offseason to recover), especially those that play for teams with championship aspirations. You can keep the Home Run Derby, that's fine as that's a less risky exhibition.

Wholeheartedly agree.
The All-Star game after the season could work... but if it was after the playoffs, it could be an issue there because most players will be well out of their routine by then. Not saying they wouldn't still be in shape, but they generally have different routines during the offseason. This seems like it would be more of an issue in baseball than in other sports (football, for example)

The All-Star Game has a pretty long history, though. It's supposed to be about the game, and the best time to do it for conditioning and fatigue purposes is definitely midsummer.

How does a poor, dumb jock manage to come up with a complete, coherent sentence? By begging a fan ficcer to write it.
