I still hate Jar-Jar like noneother.
Jake Lloyd as well, unfortunatly.
No one else wanted to like the first two movies more than I did, but I think they severely lacked everything that was great about the originals. There's no need to be a fanboy when it comes to the movies, you can hate them too.
Star Wars as a franchise still rocks, but the new movies still suck as much as they did before.
Hopefully, III will be a redeemer.
Buah.

After TESB I hated C3PO, After ROTJ I hated the Ewoks (and was generally disappointed by the film), but I love them all now like good friends.
Naturally I was then disappointed by TPM but I never hated Jar Jar and now actually like him. I don't find him that annoying and he is easy to imitate. I still wish many different things had been done with the storylines but it's still Star Wars and am slowly coming to love it, though it will never be a TESB.
Just an aside, ST: ANH came out in May of 1977 and we know how that went, and shortly after Spielberg's aliens coming to Earth film, "Close Encounters" came out and was a huge hit. This May, "Revenge of the Sith" comes out and shortly after, Spielberg's aliens coming to Earth film, "War of the Worlds" will come out. I'm choosing to take it as a good omen.

When ole Jim Jam Jar Jar made his appearance, I tried to accept him. But, soon I realized I was "living a lie". And I couldn't live that way. Could you? Could you live like that? "No," I said, "It would destroy us."
Ever since then, I've tolerated him with a quiet loathing.
I get irked when C-3PO tries to vouch for him: "I find that Jar-Jar creature rather odd." Bah!

3.) Here's a completely different thought - I have often wondered how interesting it would have been if, rather than Jar Jar, the character had instead been a young Admiral Ackbar. For one thing, Star Wars fans generally already like Ackbar a great deal. For another, consider what an interesting sidekick he would have made in the prequel trilogy. Finally, what better motivation to "grow up" to become a military leader dedicated to fighting the Empire if it was revealed that in his foolish, mispent youth, Ackbar had been partly responsible for contributing to the Empire's rise to power?
I really like Jar Jar, but having it been Ackbar would have indeed been interesting.

I too watched TPM the other day, for the first time in about two years. The film seems much improved with a little age. It occurred to me that Jar Jar is meant to be annoying, and that within this context, he's actually quite amusing. The 'racist' connotations never bothered me or seemed to have any kind of foundation, so no problems there. I actually kind of miss him in AOTC now!

I never hated Jar Jar but he did annoy me most of the time. I have however learned to accept Jar Jar and like the guy who started this topic, I find myself laughing at some of the things he does, like panicking in the submarine or getting his tongue zapped by the pod-engine. The mistake George did with Jar Jar, in my oppinion, is that he gave him to much screen time. Jar Jars scenes were simply to long.
There is however still one scene with Jar Jar that I hate... the scene where Jar Jar gets his foot entangled in a destroyed Droid and in his attempts at freeing himself he shoots and destroys not 1, not 2, but 3 Trade Federation droids.
Had Jar Jar managed to destroy one droid it would have been ok but 3... that's just to much.

rather than feeling like Roger Rabbit in a lizard suit
Ha! never thought of him that way, but yeah that's kinda what he is.
I've always loved ALL the films because I'm a person who looks at them all as one story. That's hard to do for some folks.
There will always be people who think of the Lord of the Rings as three seperate films, instead of one story like I did when I read the book.
So Jar Jar is a character that belongs to a whole story. He doesnt bug me a bit. He is like me in a way, goofy and ackward at times, but with time and practice, he becomes someone people look up to.
Now old Palpy Duped not just Jar Jar, but the Jedi, a certain Naboo Queen, the whole Republic for that matter, Jar Jar embodies all the innnocence lost.
Whatever causes Jar JAr's exit in EpIII will be THE defining moment for him. Be it that he is on Alderaan when it is destroyed, or one last act of heroism.
In short, Jar JAr is the way he is to embody success even though you are extremely different, and most important, the loss of innocence in the galaxy.
Wish I could argue for him like this in person!

Come on now, everybody. JAR JAR ruined the Phantom Menace. I remember waiting in line ALL DAY AND ALL NIGHT to see the first screening and once he uttered (or muttered?) his first lines, I felt like puking.
If JAR JAR was so great, why did Lucas significantly reduce his role in Episode II and WHY is he NON-EXISTENT in all of the Sith trailers? You all know the answer. Stop lying to yourselves and get with the program.
Furthermore, if the Phanton Menace was supposed to appeal to kids (which is what all JAR JAR "fans" say), then, please, somebody, cite another 'kids' film for me that deals with 'tariffs' and trade systems. Puh-leese.

Jar Jar was and still is an annoying character because of his screeching tone of voice and stupid sayings in TPM his role was reduced in AOTC. He is just an experiment gone wrong.

Of course I jumped on the Jar-Jar bandwagon, but as of late its old to complain about him. Actually deep down inside I would like some screen time, not much, of Jar-Jar to show what will happen to him in RotS.

I'm going to take a different spin on this one. Let me start with an example. My friends know that I'm a dork for Star Wars. So, when the LOTR: ROTK came out, they were dying to know my opinion. I told them that I had to withold judgement until all three movies came out because I don't know the whole story (never read them). How could I give an opinion on Sam when I didn't know who he'd become (the BEST character in the movies). So, I'm saying let's withold judgement until ROTS comes out and we see how he plays into the arc of the story. We already saw his importance in AOTC, maybe there's more payoff in ROTS (I don't know any spoilers, so....). If not, let's hate away; but until then, let's wait and see.

I wasn't exactly fond of Jar-Jar when I first saw the movie, but that could have been because these two annoying ten year-old boys sitting behind me in the theater burst out laughing every time he said anything. Luckily, they fell asleep half-way through the movie so I could watch the rest in peace. I don't hate Jar-Jar, but I think it was a bad move on Lucas's part to make that character a cartoony comic relief (and frankly, the only relief I got from him was when he stopped talking). I can't help but wonder if people would have liked him better if Lucas had made him a bad guy......a bumbling spy for the Sith who manages to come across a couple Jedi and befriend them, and therefore being able to infiltrate the government and get Palpatine in power, perhaps? Just a thought, of course, but it would have explained a lot more in the second movie.

Since I first watched TPM when I was nine I liked Jar Jar, thought that he was funny and the TPM blow my mind. When I was older I, like most people, started saying that the TPM 'sucks' and Jar Jar must die.
Since it came out on DVD I could look at the film and Jar Jar without any fanboy hate and I think the TPM is a great start to the Star Wars saga and Jar Jar is okay, sometimes funny if I enter the mind of the nine year who was so happy to see Star Wars on the big screen for the first time after watching the OT on video a hundred times.
