Personally I've always liked Jar Jar ever since '99. Despite him being annoying at times he was just one of those characters that you loved to hate (in a good way for me). He always made the best out of bad situations and made the bad situations to where it could be something I could smile at. Such as when the bongo was sinking. Or when he was stuck on that destroyer droid with the booba in hand and didn't know what to do so he tossed it behind him and managed to destroy a battle droid.

never had a problem with Jar Jar. really liked him in the 1st movie. then i was influenced by all the hub bub about how annoying he was and i stopped liking him. i saw how he was annoying and now i could really do without him. sure keep him in the movie - but you expect me to believe Padme of all people chose him to represent her??? he is to dumb to be put in that situation.
just my thought though

I never have and never will like Jar-Jar. I view him as a symptom of all of the things that are wrong with George Lucas' thinking...

I really hated Jar-Jar back in '99, and I still think he's irritating, but over the years I've sort of started to ignore him. I just watch TPM, enjoying it, and try to pretend Jar-Jar is not there.

I've always been fairly noncommittal about Jar Jar. I certainly don't hate him as a character, but I don't think he adds anything particularly valuable to SW either.
A bit too much focus was placed on him in TPM, yes, but he hardly ruined the movie.

I just accept Jar Jar for the archtype that he represents in a modern day mythological tale -- THE FOOL or THE VILLAGE IDIOT. He should annoy us because that is his purpose.

I used to hate him. I used to hate TPM, too. But since I've put my Star Wars obsession into full-throttle I've grown to love everything and anything Star Wars. He's not dumb, he's a Gungan. Its his nature. I respect his cultural differences than that of a twi'lek. :P

Does anyone here for a single moment believe that had Lucas the chance to re-write Jar Jar that he wouldn't have written him differently? I mean, if this were the late '90's and GL was writing the script for TPM, is there any question that he wouldn't have done some things differently about Jar Jar?
Seriously guys, I know many of you loved Jar Jar and ignore the critics but can you honestly say that GL wouldn't have written Jar Jar in a manner less inclined to appeal to "small children"? (As a reminder, GL stated that his reason for writing JJ the way he did was to in fact appeal to small children. Sadly, that is not his core audience.)
I don't have the energy to hate him but I wish he were written to appeal to at least 14 year olds.

I hope Jar-Jar can redeem himself in Ep. III. I really don't think Lucas wastes anything, so Jar-Jar's appearances in TPM and AOTC could be leading up to something astronomically important.
