	This is a one-shot, unless someone asks for more. This is how I think Mara came to be in the Emperor’s service. I may write more about her childhood if anyone asks for more. Disclaimer: I am about to present everyone with the biggest shock of their lives…I DON’T OWN STAR WARS! ::Gasp!:: So don’t sue me! ~ Dark Day Neesha Jade watched her young daughter through the window. “I’m sorry, but we don’t feel comfortable giving her up.” Her husband, Kirk’s, voice pulled her back to the problem at hand. Two men, dressed in Imperial uniforms, sat in front of them. “We are sorry to hear that.” The Imperial’s voice held no emotion, making it difficult for Neesha to believe him. The Imperials stood up; the Jades did the same. “I highly suggest that you change your mind,” the second Imperial said. “Your daughter’s…skills would become very great.” Kirk’s jaw clenched. “Thank you but no.” The second Imperial shook his head slightly. “Such a pitty.” Neesha was feeling more and more uncomfortable; Kirk sensed it. “Allow me to escort you to the door.” He kept the hostility that he felt out of his voice. The first Imperial waved a hand. “No need. We can find our own way out.” They turned and left. It was only after they could no longer hear the Imperials’ speeder that Neesha and Kirk moved. Kirk rummaged through a closet. “Get Mara; we have to get out of here.” Neesha didn’t say anything; she just briskly walked to the backdoor and called their daughter inside. Then she turned and began to help her husband take out their packs. “How do you think they found us?” Kirk shook his head. “I don’t know. The Emperor had many ways of finding out.” Four-year-old Mara ran into the room grinning, but her grin fell off of her face when she saw the packs. Neesha looked up at her daughter for a moment. “Get your coat, Mara; we’re leaving.” “But I don’t wanna!” Mara crossed her arms, pouting. “Mara do as your mother says!” her father shouted. Mara cringed; tears welled up in her eyes. Kirk immediately felt guilty. “Mara, sweetie…” He moved toward her. But Mara ran away from him; to her room. Neesha placed a gentle hand on her husband’s shoulder; he hung his head. Then there was a scream. “Mommy! Daddy!” They both shot up and ran to Mara’s room. Two storm-troopers were there; one was holding an unconscious Mara. Kirk roared; he reached under his tunic and pulled out his lightsabre, lighting it. He deflected the second storm-trooper’s shots, careful not to let any of them hit his wife or daughter. Suddenly there was another scream behind him. He spun around to find another group of storm-troopers; one holding his wife with a blaster to her temple. The troopers prepared to fire upon Kirk. “No!” A booming voice stopped them. “This one is mine.” Kirk felt shock as a tall dark figure stepped out from behind the troopers. He towered above Kirk. Darth Vader. The Dark Lord lit his sabre. “You shall face me now, Jedi.” He spat the word Jedi out as if it was the most vile words in existance. Kirk clenched his teeth and moved to a ready position. The Dark Lord and Jedi Knight battled in the small area; somehow, to all of the spectators' surprise they never once tripped. Neesha watched with bated breath as her love battled the betrayer of the Jedi. The fight lasted what felt like an eternity to her. Kirk was tiring; he and Vader both knew it. There was an opening and Vader took it. He stabbed the Jedi through the heart. Kirk collapsed to the ground. Neesha broke away from her captor with a, “No!” She ran to her husband’s side, sobbing. Kirk reached up a hand and gently ran it down her cheek. Neesha clung to his hand as if it were her lifeline. "My love." Kirk's voice was raspy. "Hold on Kirk! Please hold on! Don't leave me alone! I need you!" Neesha begged him. He gave her a sad smile as his eyes closed for the last time. Neesha sobs became louder and she cluched his hand harder. A moment later she was holding air; her husband's body disappeared. “Take the child to the ship. Leave her to me.” The troopers obeyed Vader’s command without question. Once they were out of the house Vader turned to the heartbroken woman. He tossed a small packet to her. “Take that and get out of here.” The woman stared at the packet. Then she took it in her hands and flung it back at him. “I don’t need the charity of a murderer and traitor!” She then grabbed her husband’s lightsabre, and before Vader could do anything she pressed it to her chest and pushed the power button. 	I liked this. And not only because I finally found a Mara Jade fic without her being all mushy with Luke. 	Sobifan: I know that it is depressing, but I have been wanting to write a story that told how Mara came to be in the Emperor's service and this seemed like a logical way, though sad. As far as her being Sabé and Obi's daughter I love stories where that happens, but they are mostly AU's. ::Shrugs:: Like I said I was trying to fit this into the EU. tatooinewizard: Thank you. 	It's 1:11 in the morning and I should be in bed but inspiration struck. Thank you both, Mystic_Ally and Jedi_Liz! ~ Mara gripped the lightsabre in her hands tightly. She worked at deflecting the shots that the droid sent at her. One got by her defences and she gritted her teeth in anticipation of the hand that slapped her. It hit her hard enough to make her teeth rattle. She was growing accustomed to the punishments that she recieved for her failures. They had become very common ever since she had woken up in the small cell a month ago. ~Flashback to a month ago~ Mara floated in the fog of unconsciousness, not wanting to ever wake up. Pain cut through the blissful fog like a vibroblade. Mara groaned aloud as consciousness returned to her. A hand slapped her again. Her eyes flew open. She looked up at the person, angry. "Why are you hitting me?" The man hit her again. "Do not question!" Mara cried out. He hit her again. "Do not make noise!" She cringed. The hand fell again. "Do not show weakness!" It went like that for another ten minutes. Finally Mara bit down on the inside of her cheek to keep herself from crying, which she now knew would earn her another slap. "Who are you?" "I am your new teacher; you will adress me as Sir." "Yes, Sir. Where are my parents?" "Forget about them." "But-" He slapped her. Mara gritted her teeth. "You do not need them anymore, understood?" Mara nodded silently. ~End of flashback~ Mara concentrated on the droid stretching out with her anger like Sir taught her to. Finally she was able to "sense" the driod; she could tell when and where it was going to shoot and she blocked ten stinger bolts in quick succession. Sir nodded in aproval. "That is all for now." He motioned for one of the guards to step forward. The guard then led Mara back to her cell. The door slid open and Mara stepped inside. She stood there streight and tall with her back to the door until the door was closed once more. Then she walked painfully over to the small cot and lay down. She didn't show her discomfort, knowing that people were watching even if she couldn't see them. She lay down and closed her eyes, hoping that sleep would come that night for it wasn't a friend that came often. ~ Well? -----signature----- "This is gonna get pretty interesting." 	::Bangs head against wall:: Sorry this is taking so long! School is insane. Swimming is insane. I'm flipping insane! ::Blinks:: Oh yeah. We already knew that. Anywho. Here is a bit of a teaser of what is to come. ~ Mara's tiny body slamed against the wall; she was certain that she had cracked a few ribs, but she refused to show any weakness to her apponent. She immediately rolled to the side as she saw his sabre come at her. She rolled over her shoulder and to her feet. She got into her version of the prepared stance that she knew looked like it was taunting the person to try to take her down. Her apponent charged forward. 	The only thingthat bothers me is that her real name isn't Jade. She has memories implanted by the Emperor. That';s what Zahn said. She has no real memories, and no identity. If she did, her family would probably say something. -----signature----- It's been an experience. 8000, and done!
