Very interesting. So, Anikin will be trained be someone who serves the darkside!! What if Anikin sneaks around to see Obi Wan instead of Palpatine? Obi Wan is the only person Anikin knows and they both share memories of Quo Gon, Naboo, and Padme. As I said before very interesting.
Obi-Ew when I first read that you wanted to work on your writing skills in 2004 my first thought was Why your writing is great and I have enjoyed everything I have read. Well, whatever your doing keep doing it. The desrciption are great as is your story telling.
Sorry I don't post more offten, but i'm always reading.

I like your story. I cannot wait to see who winds up as young Anakin's assigned mentor.

CHAPTER FIVE
The massive city planet of Coruscant was filled with countless establishments designed to cater to the huge populations thirst for entertainment and various appetites. The majority of these places were basically based on the exact same premiss, carrying a huge supply of varying liquors and providing gambling and entertainment that satisfied both the clienteles sensual and more mundane urges. Packed with loud and oft times inebriated beings, they were all lit with garish lights and ear splitting music; the air thick with a host of noxious aromas.
One establishment held itself apart from its counterparts with unashamed pride. The owner having decided early on to take advantage of his business’s proximity to the towering Jedi Temple, focused his attention on the two items that the elite group of knights seemed to crave. An excellently cooked meal, and a vintage glass of ale or wine. Knowing his clientele were frugal with the few credits they were allowed to have in their possession, he made certain he offered the most diverse menu on the planet and the largest cellar of liquors.
Even the decor of the establishment was geared toward offering the Jedi a place to come that would serve to relax and sooth. The lighting was a cool light blue, the walls painted a non threatening shade of off white and decorated with artwork that provided a feeling of home. The massive chairs that surrounded the lovely marble tables were designed to conform to the occupants shape, making for a relaxing and comfortable visit.
The Jedi, knowing full well that the owner would never become rich off of serving them, had spread the word of the places attributes to their more influential colleagues in the political arena. One now often found themselves rubbing elbows with some of the most prominent figures in the galaxy’s political structure. Even though they exchanged pleasant greetings, the Jedi and the politicians tended to keep to their own groups. It was an unspoken agreement that worked well for everyone involved.
Sitting in a corner booth nursing a glass of Corellian ale, Obi-Wan swept the rapidly filling building with a curious eye. Tipping his head briefly in greeting as his eye was caught by familiar faces, his attention was soon captured by a figure that stood across the room talking to a table of senior padawans. The hands that clutched the glass tightened as the man glanced up as if sensing his regard, their gazes meeting. Careful to mask his initial feelings of dislike, Obi-Wan acknowledged the older man’s faint smile of greeting with a curt nod before shifting his gaze to the figure just entering the establishment.
A genuine smile lit up his face as his best friend snagged a glass of ale from a passing serving droid before winding his way toward the booth. A year younger than Obi-Wan’s own twenty-five standard years, Garen Muln had grown into an impressive figure. As children the two had often been mistaken for relatives, both having a similar build and coloring. That had changed when they turned eighteen. While Obi-Wan had reached the extent of his potential for growth, Garen had one last spurt that left him just as tall as Obi-Wan’s own master and just as muscular as Master Windu.
After joining the pilot program started by Master Clea Rhea, Garen had been quick to lose the traditional padawan cut. His brown sun streaked hair now fell to his shoulders in gentle waves when it wasn’t tied back as it currently was. Dropping down in the chair across from Obi-Wan, Garen’s bright pale blue eyes studied him intently as he took a deep drink.
"So how did your meeting with the Council go?" he asked immediately.
Shrugging, Obi-Wan ran the tip of a finger along the rim of his glass, causing it to emit a mournful wail. "Not surprisingly they decided to give Anakin over to a more experienced knight."
Releasing a deep breath, Garen seemed to relax noticeably. "I know it wasn’t what you wanted to hear Obi, but I for one am glad. You don’t need the added pressure of being responsible for an apprentice right now, especially one with the added baggage Anakin comes with."
While his friend remained silent, Garen watched him with troubled eyes. It was obvious that Obi-Wan was still reeling from the loss of his beloved mentor, a shroud of grief clinging to his friend like a well worn cloak. The light that normally seemed to radiate from Obi-Wan was dulled and lacking its usual vibrancy. Truly concerned about his best friend, Garen reached over and covered the hand that lay palm down on the tabletop with his own. Once those luminous blue-gray eye met his, he spoke gently but firmly.
"Tell me what you truly feel about their decision Obi."
Dropping his gaze from Garen’s piercing stare, Obi-Wan exhaled a calming breath. "I’m disappointed that I won’t be able to directly fulfill the promise I made to Qui-Gon. There’s a big part of me that is actually just as relieved as you are. I know that I’m not in a good place right now and need time to find my center. I suppose that also brings with it a feeling of guilt."
"Guilt?" Garen exclaimed, leaning forward as he tried to decipher his friends meaning. "What do you possibly have to feel guilty about?"
Obi-Wan traced a path in the condensation that had gathered on the outside of his glass. Lifting his finger, he appeared to study the drop of liquid with fascination for a few seconds before trapping it between his thumb and forefinger.
"What kind of person gets a sense of relief at being allowed to skirt their responsibilities? I’m the only person in the entire Temple that Anakin knows and yet I am walking away from him when he needs me the most," he finally admitted in a near whisper.
Leaning back in his chair, Garen shook his head in disbelief as he studied the somber look on his friends face. "How do you do it?"
Glancing up questioningly, Obi-Wan shrugged in bafflement. "Do what?"
"How do you make it through an entire day carrying the weight of the galaxy on your shoulders?" Garen demanded tersely. "Why do you insist on putting so much unnecessary pressure on yourself? Anakin is not your responsibility, Obi-Wan. It was Qui-Gon’s decision to drag the boy along not knowing what the Council’s reaction would be. The Council is now taking over and rightly so. You don’t owe that boy anything more. It’s time for you to take care of yourself and let go of these feelings of guilt over Anakin’s fate."
Silence filled the air between them as Obi-Wan contemplated his friends words. Before anything more could be said on the subject, a deep voice broke into the moment of quiet.
"Muln! I didn’t realize you were on planet my boy!"
Garen looked up at the owner of the voice, his tanned face splitting into a wide delighted grin. Springing up from his chair, he returned the new arrival’s bone crushing hug with an infectious laugh.
"Master Delano! This is a pleasant surprise!"
Taking a deep drink of his ale, Obi-Wan watched the interaction between the two from beneath lowered lashes. When the Jedi Knight’s gaze settled on him, he braced himself for the upcoming confrontation. Pulling away from Garen, the older man focused his attention on a silent Obi-Wan; sympathy shone plainly in a pair of deep brown eyes.
"Obi-Wan, I’m so sorry about your great loss," Master Delano told him gently.
Garen was startled to see a quick look of distrust flash through his friend’s eyes before being concealed by long reddish gold lashes. Uncertain what was going on, he gestured toward the tall Jedi.
"Obi-Wan, you know Master Eitan Delano, don’t you?"
Tilting his head in brief acknowledgement, Obi-Wan took a few seconds to survey the Jedi he had spotted earlier from across the room. As tall and muscular as Garen, at forty standard years of age, Eitan was an imposing individual. Shaggy black hair fell loosely around a pair of broad shoulders and framed an attractive face that bore a wicked looking scar that zigzagged along a firm jawline. One of the best pilots the Order had, Eitan had taught one of Garen’s favorite classes and the two had even flown on several missions together. Obi-Wan was well aware of the fact that Delano had even saved his friend’s life on at least one of those occasions. While the knight had always treated him with seemingly genuine kindness, Obi-Wan had never quite been able to get over one well known fact about the other man.
Eitan Delano had been the best friend of Xanatos deCrion before the fallen Jedi betrayed the Order and Master Qui-Gon.
Getting to his feet, Obi-Wan finished off the last of his drink before giving the knight a curt bow. "Master Delano. I hope the two of you will forgive me for rushing off, I just remembered something I need to attend to."
As he made to move off, Eitan grasped his elbow and brought him to an abrupt halt. Raising an eyebrow, Obi-Wan’s gaze traveled from the hand that gripped his arm to the other man’s solemn gaze.
"Obi-Wan, I know what you are going through right now, having lost my own Master. If you need anyone to talk too please don’t hesitate to seek me out," Eitan implored the young man kindly.
Pulling his arm free, Obi-Wan nodded before hurrying off. Turning to find Garen staring after his friend with a deeply troubled look, the older man reached over to squeeze his shoulder.
"It will take some time Garen. All you and the others can do is make certain you are there when he needs you," he advised the younger man gently.
Offering him a grateful smile, Garen gestured toward the now free chair across from his. "Would you like to stay and have a drink?"
Glancing at the chrono on the wall, Eitan nodded and took the chair recently vacated by Obi-Wan. "I have a meeting with the Council in an hour but would love to sit and catch up with you."
Signaling for the serving droid, Garen eyed his friend and colleague with open curiosity. "A new mission already? Didn’t you just return from Dantooine?"
Placing his drink order, Eitan waited until the droid moved off before replying. "Yes, I got back early yesterday. Actually I believe there may be a chance of my taking on my first apprentice."
Brow furrowing, Garen eyed the other man thoughtfully. "Really? I wonder..."
As his young friend’s words trailed off, Eitan chuckled and slapped his arm. "You wonder what?"
Shrugging, Garen offered him a rueful grin as he lifted his own drink to his mouth. "Nothing. Just a stray thought."
When Eitan nodded and began to talk about his last mission, Garen silently pondered what he had just learned. He respected and trusted Master Eitan as he did few others and could see the knight as a possible master for Anakin. Knowing how Obi-Wan felt about the other man however could make things even more complicated.

Couldn't stay away from the Leatherman, OE? Looks like Xan's dark side rubbed off on Delano. I get the feeling Anakin's not going to flourish under his tutelage, if they're paired together.

So Master Delano is not a friend to Obi-Wan (in Obi's eyes) and maybe getting a new apprentice. This could make things difficult for Obi-Wan, especially the guilt end, especially if Delano is on the dark side.
I liked the description of the place where the Jedi like to hang out. Sounds very comfortable!
Looking forward to more...

HHHHMMMMM....
So Obi is feeling super guilty (seems to be a common theme ) and for some reason, really dislikes Master Eitan, who is more than likely about to take Anakin as his padawan and may be in the league with Palpy....
This is about to make my head hurt...
