	Scene: Vader stood with his gloved hand outstretched to the lad who was clinging desperately to his precarious hold on the vane that stretched out over the wind tunnel abyss that was the heart of Cloud City. He had just told the boy the truth, the truth of his parentage. He refused to believe it, yet Vader saw in the boy‘s eyes the realization of the truth. “Luke,” Vader said to the battered young man, “you can destroy the Emperor. He has foreseen this. It is your destiny. Join me and together we can rule the galaxy as father and son. Come with me. It is the only way.” He saw the boy glance over his shoulder as he spoke those last words. The boy looked up at him. His son. Yes, Luke reminded Vader of the young man he had once been. As Luke looked up at him, he saw the look of utter defiance in his face. He had seen that look before...on her. Vader’s hand fell as Luke released his hold and plummeted downward, his last word of defiance echoing back to him. “Never”. Just like her. He watched until his son was sucked down into one of the exhaust shafts. His son had chosen death over his father. Over the dark side. The boy was powerful indeed. Vader stood a moment more staring into the now empty abyss of slowly blinking lights and numerous exhaust vent portals. With a sigh that no one would ever notice had anyone been around, Vader turned away and made his way back to his shuttle, thoughts of his son and distant, long thought erased memories exploding behind his black mask. Memories he never wanted to have surface and yet he was now faced with them. He again saw the look of utter defiance in his son and remembered one of the last times he had seen her. She had the same expression written on her beautiful face. Her chocolate velvet eyes blazing at him. Her words echoed back to him from the long years buried in his heart. “Anakin, NO! You cannot do this! You are betraying all that you are. Don’t you see? He lied to us! To the galaxy! And you want to remain at his side?! No! I cannot be a part of this. I will never be a part of this terror he created. Never!” Anakin looked on her one last time in heated wrath and turned his back on her. Her defiant stand against him. He left her then, never to see her crumple to the ground sobbing for the heartbreak he caused her and for his utter betrayal to her. Vader pushed the memory away. He felt she had betrayed him and yet, in his black heart he knew it was the other way around. Emotions long lost to him, suddenly surged from the heart. Love, passion, tenderness, joy. He tried to push them away but her face would not recede from his mind’s eye. He turned his thoughts back to the boy. He reached out with the Force and was shocked to still find him there. He was still alive. There may yet be another chance. Vader thought back to their battle. Yes, the boy was strong in the Force as his son should be, but Vader knew if he really had chosen to, he could have destroyed Luke. How could he though? The boy was his flesh and blood. The boy was good. Was it possible that he, Vader still might have some of that goodness left in him? Vader inwardly shook his head. No. The dark side held too much power for him, over him. It was what kept him alive. No. The only way he could have his son was to turn him to the dark side as well, for he himself could not go back. 	It's sad that Vader thinks if Luke turned to the Dark Side, that would fix things. Because is there really any familiar love between people in the Dark Side? No, there's only selfishness Nicely done. Only ESB was written by Leigh Brackett (kind of) and mostly by Lawrence Kasdan. 	Very nice! Getting into Vader's head especially when he sees so much of Padmé in Luke, was very interesting. I just love those little glimpses of the man behind the monster.
