RE: Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader Character Challenges - New Sep. 29 - Saga Vader/Luke or Vader/Le
Realizing that he had not moved, she glanced up at him, “What?”
He spoke with eerie calm, “You lied.”
“Of course I lied,” she spat. “Did you honestly think I wouldn’t?”
Vader looked down at her, almost admiring her defiance in spite of himself, “You cannot win, Leia. I will not allow it.”
Leia rose to her feet and looked him directly in the eyes. She answered with calculated precision, “And you cannot destroy the Alliance. I won’t allow it.”
Vader returned the hard stare. It was a standoff. Her latent Force ability bristled in his presence like filaments under a static charge. He wondered if she would ever notice it.
Very nice! I liked the awareness that flashes between these two. If only they knew why! Great viggie!

I did almost the same missing moment, however it is not as eloquent as the former entry! Oh well, it is all I have to offer at the moment!I realize the title is very "earthly" but nothing else came to mind.
Apple of Her Father’s Eye
“Princess, I’m disappointed in you,” Vader’s voice rumbled.
She could barely register the words as she tried to sit up, though her body did not wish to cooperate. “And why is that, Lord Vader?” She panted a bit as she continued in her struggle to get upright. It sorely tried her temper to show this monster any weakness, even after what had been done to her.
“Will you not be sensible and give us the information? Surely you realize you will fail in the end. Why not spare yourself some pain and just give me the information about the Rebel base now?” He sounded almost injured, as if her stubbornness pained him personally.
She snorted softly, incapable of anything more elegant at the moment. “My apologies, Lord Vader, for my disappointing nature,” she said. Her voice sounded stronger, she noted gratefully. She was now sitting instead of being sprawled out on the slab that served as her bed.
“Even your father would understand, your highness,” Vader assured her.
Leia looked up at him with disbelief. Did he think her that simple-minded?
She wished that she could stand up and spit on his black armor again, but she knew that all she would accomplish was to fall flat on her face. She wouldn’t give him the satisfaction. But the look on the officer’s face when she had spat on the Sith Lord earlier had been priceless, one she would remember for the rest of her life.
However long that might prove to be
, she thought darkly.
“Lord Vader, I don’t have the information you seek. I simply cannot give you what I do not have,” she said reasonably, but any of those who knew her well would have recognized the durasteel in her tone. “I can only assume that you enjoy torturing defenseless women,” she said with a smile. It was aggravating to have play the gender card, but the Imperial disregard for women was well known.
If they saw her as weak and helpless she might find an opportunity to escape. To her surprise, the dark figure gave a short bark of what sounded suspiciously like laughter.
“The day you’re helpless, Princess, is the day Tatooine freezes over,” he said with a small bow of his head.
She looked away, puzzled. It almost seemed as if he respected her stubborn spirit, although he said otherwise. Surely that could not be. Darth Vader could find nothing to admire in her, just as she found nothing to commend in him.
“Yes, I’m sure your men are quaking in their boots, afraid for their lives as they guard me,” she said bitingly, putting aside her confusion.
Lord Vader shook his head, though whether he was exasperated with her sharp tongue or found her amusing, she could not tell. Not that she cared what he thought of her, but if she angered him she might find herself dead before she could escape.
At least if I’m dead, I can’t betray the Rebellion
, she thought. But the thought of losing to this creature maddened her.
“I see you need time to contemplate your circumstances, Princess,” Vader said as he turned to exit the cell. “I must warn you that I shall not be so patient the next time we meet.” He was gone before she could reply.
“
That
was patient?” she asked out loud.
*****************************
The men avoided Lord Vader as he stalked back to his quarters. While one could never accuse the Sith of being in a good mood, it was clear that his temper was especially foul at the moment. It was simply wise to stay out of his way until the storm passed, not that it was ever truly safe to be in his company.
Vader felt the men’s emotions clearly as he strode down the corridor. He was tempted to strike them out of his way using the Force. He was sure that smashing a few empty heads against a bulkhead would make him feel better. But they would simply be replaced by more fools who would have to be trained, so he ignored them for the time being.
He closed the door behind him and let his frustration grow as he entered the privacy of his quarters. The princess was vexing in the extreme. She reminded him sharply of her father at this particular moment. Her father had trained her well, blast the man!
For years he had suspected that Organa assisted the Rebellion. But the man was incredibly clever and had friends in high places. Nothing less than irrefutable and genuine evidence would condemn him.
They should have gotten that proof from his daughter, but she had resisted every effort to extract the information. At least the problem of the father would disappear tomorrow. He would soon be gone and his planet with him.
While he admired her strong will, it made his job that much more difficult. It would also ensure that she suffered greatly before she died. He had already put the required second signature on her order of execution, ignoring a pang of regret as he had done so. He didn’t know why the infuriating young princess affected him so.
Perhaps it was because he had known her father when he was still a young and idealistic fool. Or maybe it was the fact that she so resembled her mother, who had been a handmaiden to a certain young queen.
By the stars, the girl was stubborn! She didn’t have a submissive bone in her body. He had been strongly tempted to just snap her neck when she’d had the audacity to spit at him. It had sizzled harmlessly on his battle hot armor, but the insult had been clear.
Two things had saved her life at that moment. The first had been the simple fact that he needed information from her. The second had been that she had stared up at him with brown eyes that were full of anger and loathing, but not one bit of fear.
She had been afraid. He had sensed that even through her impressive shielding. And where had she learned
that?
But she allowed none of it to be reflected in her compelling eyes. Those brown eyes made him uncomfortable for some reason.
He knew what Tarkin had planned for tomorrow, and it angered him. He felt that the destruction of an entire planet was wasteful and would serve no purpose in the long run. It would just make the Rebels all the more committed to their foolish cause. This was one of those rare instances that he had disagreed openly with his Master.
He had expressed his reservations respectfully and in a private audience. But he had still provoked the Emperor’s wrath, perhaps even making him
more
determined to show off his new technological terror. Vader admitted that openly questioning his Master’s plans might have been a tactical error.
So tomorrow he would hold her and force her to watch as her homeworld was blown into a billion tiny pieces. He knew he would feel that rift in the Force. He did not enjoy death, no matter what his enemies might say. He merely considered death to be a necessary tool to keep the galaxy at peace.
Better the death of one than the slaughter of many. But tomorrow would be different. He put aside the thought; there was nothing to be done about it now. Somehow he knew the princess would not break, not even after watching the death of all she loved.
Three days from now, the princess would face the Imperial Executioner. Her death would be quick and painless, much to Tarkin’s regret. Tarkin had all of the subtlety of a bantha in heat and he would be glad to be away from the emaciated zealot and this monstrosity of a battle station.
He preferred the elegant sleekness of the
Executor
, and the cleanness of battles fought by pilots who would live or die by their own skills. He did not care for this senseless butchering. He would be glad when the girl’s execution was over.
He told himself that more than once in the hours to come.

Great vig, VaderLVR!
I now feel inadequate in entering mine...
We are all about the Vader/Leia viggies...
I am posting before rushing off to a meeting so, bear with me if there are any huge mistakes!!!
Imperial Palace glittered insidiously for the occasion; Leia could not help but notice as she lingered by entryway where most of the children had gathered. At eleven, she felt honored to be by her parents’ side at the gala, but also a little overwhelmed. She had been somewhat protected from the glare of Imperial political and social life, and rarely got to leave Alderaan. She could count on one hand the times she had been off-planet, and then her mother was taken with apprehension, always fretting to her father that it wasn’t secure.
Leia had heard the story of her adoption - she came to the Organas when there was no hope, when they had despaired of ever having a child. She had four siblings that had never been born, or had been born never having taken a breath. Her father said her mother was overprotective because she could not bear to lose Leia. Sometimes she felt suffocated, but mostly she felt thankful to be so loved and protected. She missed them when they would travel to Coruscant, though. Father said they must make their appearances.
Leia had come to the conclusion that she would be mostly planet-bound until she left for university, so it was with a great deal of surprise that she received the news that she was to find her best dress and have Mieri put her hair up in the elaborate style of court, for she was going with Mother and Father to the Coronation Anniversary ball that was given each year in honor of the institution of the Empire, and peace in the galaxy. Even at her age, she could tell that contentment and peace were not feelings that were shared by many in the galaxy and her parents were the some of the most outspoken, but only in the most covert and unassuming way.
Leia thought back to the conversation that she overheard her parents having when her father had come home with the news that children over the age of 10 were expected by the Emperor to attend.
“I won’t take her, we’ll just have to say she is sick,” her mother had said, desperation in her voice. “Besides, he doesn’t even know how old she is, for all he knows she could be younger.”
“It is no use, Saché. He mentioned her specifically. We’ll go, make our appearances and trust that the measures Kenobi and Master Yoda took are sufficient,” her father had answered wearily.
Meaures? Kenobi and Yoda?
Leia’s mind whirled with uncertainty when she had heard this, though a tiny part of her felt something small at the back of her thoughts, something that scratched and scrabbled like a small field mouse in its hole. She tried to grasp whatever it was but as always before when her adoption or heritage was mentioned, it flew away. She was always left with a feeling emptiness, like a doll that is picked up and put back down at the market, or the chef of a grand dinner that is picked at and left uneaten.
She had then been called in to her father’s study. Her mother stood regal and erect behind her father, but the apprehension she felt was written all over her face. Her father was seated at his desk; he looked up from the document he was signing as Leia came in the room.
“Hello, cherub, how was your day today?”
“Wonderful, Father,” she said with a smile.
“Good, I have some exciting news for you.”
Leia watched as her mother shut her eyes and drew a long breath.
“You are coming with us to Coruscant for the ball tomorrow. Go get Mieri to help you pack.”
“That’s wonderful, Papa!” Leia always resorted back to her familiar name for her father when she wasn’t being formal, she rather preferred that to “Father”. It was going to be exciting, getting to see the big city planet.
She was snapped back to reality as the small feeling came back, this time she could feel it more than ever before. She shuddered and looked up to find the tallest man, she thought it was a man…beside her at the entry, his breathing heavy and his presence filling the room. She turned to find the other children had left while she had been lost in her thoughts, either that or they were afraid of the man in black. She
should
be afraid, she knew, but she wasn’t. He just looked like someone in suit and mask to her. It made her proud to know that she wasn’t as easily frightened as the other children. After all, her parents were close by. The huge man looked down at her, she could
just
make out the outline of his eyes behind the mask as he squinted to take her in, apparently surprised at her courage.
“Hello, young one,” he said, his voice rumbling like a bass drum.
Inside, Leia jumped at the greeting, the voice disconcerting just a little. On the outside she drew herself up proudly, looked him in eyes behind the lenses and said, “Hello.” She thought she saw something in his eyes, something almost wistful. She smiled tentatively, as she thought he was going to say something else, and then she saw her father walking across the room, a look of alarm on his face.
“Lord Vader, please excuse my daughter. She has never attended a function and I’m sure didn’t mean to get in your way,” her father said, grabbing her arm.
The man looked back up to her father and inclined his head. “There was no harm done,” he said. He then nodded to my father and walked into the crowd. Leia watched in fascination as the pompous bureaucrats and bottom-feeders that her parents so detested parted before him, heads down and eyes averted. A rabid curiosity about this man overcame her, she would be sure to ask Mama and Papa on the way home about him. It turned out to be only a few more minutes before Mama hurriedly came over and they all made their leave.
Tucked away in the speeder that would take them to the family quarters on Coruscant, her mother finally released a sigh of relief. Her father stared stonily away, and Leia felt like the discontent and the apprehension in the car would suffocate her.
“Who was that man, Papa?” She asked.
“He is the Emperor’s protégé and a military advisor, as well Commander of the Imperial fleet,” he said matter-of-factly. Beside her father her mother shivered involuntarily.
“Oh,” she said, “he was different looking.”
“The other children were scared of him and left as he came in, but I wasn’t. He called me ‘young one’.” Leia giggled at this, finding glee in the fact that she was able to affect someone who obviously didn’t socialize much.
“The other children were correct to be frightened of him and you will never speak to him again, Leia,” her mother said as she twisted to regard her from the front of the speeder.
“Saché, that is unreasonable,” her father sighed wearily. “As our daughter she will be exposed to him. If you can’t control your reactions to seeing them together, we will surely cause him to wonder…” his voice trailed off.
“Wonder what?” Leia asked.
“Nothing Leia,” he said finally. “Just promise us that you will steer clear of him whenever possible and not bring attention to yourself in his presence.”
“Okay,” she said defeatedly. “He’s just a man in a suit, you know.”
“No, he is not!” Leia’s mother exclaimed. “You must promise me you will honor our word on this, Leia.”
“I promise,” Leia agreed. The conversation was over. She could tell by the look exchanged by her parents.
Later in bed, Leia thought back to the events of that night. She shivered at the memory of her mother’s words and remembered the wistful look that had passed over the man’s face when he had looked at her, the feeling that the man in black would one day play a big part in her life settled itself on her. There was no way to tell now, and the normal thoughts that ten-year-olds entertained made their way back to her. Finally, she closed her eyes and went to sleep.

Oh wow - wonderful vigs, y’all!!
VaderLVR:
Great scenes! I liked the undercurrent/dynamics between Vader and Leia.
“The day you’re helpless, Princess, is the day Tatooine freezes over,” he said with a small bow of his head.
Brilliant! I could actually hear him saying that.
He felt that the destruction of an entire planet was wasteful and would serve no purpose in the long run. It would just make the Rebels all the more committed to their foolish cause. This was one of those rare instances that he had disagreed openly with his Master.
And that is what a lot of people don’t “get” about Vader. I don’t think he ever went around destroying stuff just for the heck of it. He was the bad guy, yes – but never just for the sake of being bad. Perfect characterization!
rhonderoo:
Amazing! From the opening scenes of ANH, it’s obvious that Vader and Leia have a history together. I love scenes like yours that explore what parts of that history might have been.
Meaures? Kenobi and Yoda? Leia’s mind whirled with uncertainty when she had heard this, though a tiny part of her felt something small at the back of her thoughts, something that scratched and scrabbled like a small field mouse in its hole. Oooh...powerful and beautiful!
Loved it!

Oh, this is so awesome -- these posts rock! I especially enjoy the New Hope ones; hell, it shows so little in the movie when there's obviously so much more drama involved! Keep it up guys!

I've really enjoyed all of these and find it interesting that everyone so far has focused on Leia and Vader. Interesting because this particular relationship endlessly fascinates me.

Here's one I just cooked up. It might seem a little incomplete, but that's kinda what I'm going for. This scene takes place after Vader captures Leia, Han and Chewie in Cloud City.
===============================================================
She had not been taken away with Han and Chewie, who had been hauled off to be tortured, no doubt. Instead she was forcibly escorted back to the guest chambers and locked inside. She did not know why they bothered locking the door; they were dozens of kilometers up in the sky, for Force’s sake, and the
Falcon
was still in disrepair. Besides, she could not run away and leave her Wookiee friend and the man she loved.
Loved? She loved him? No, that was not possible. Love was for silly schoolgirls, not political leaders. And something—a distant memory of someone she really never knew—told her that it brought nothing but heartache. She had enough to worry about right now.
A familiar shiver trilled down her spine, breaking her reverie. He was coming. She always felt this way when he was near. She didn’t fear him, exactly. Loathed and despised, yes. Mistrusted, definitely. But never did she fear him.
Her mind drifted again to years gone by. She had known him her entire life; being the only daughter of politically prominent parents, she was compelled to spend at least some time in his presence. Her father always warned her that he was a "very bad man," and that while she should be polite to him, she should never get too close. By the time she entered the Senate, she understood why. He was the embodiment of everything she opposed. He was vile and amoral and soulless.
Nevertheless, something about him always fascinated her.
These days, it was the fact that, given all the opportunities he’d had to dispose of her, he never had. It was almost as though he couldn’t bring himself to do it.
For some reason, she had always been in tune with other people’s feelings. And in the people closest to her, their joy was her joy, their pain her pain. She would hardly describe him as someone close, but nevertheless pain was what she detected in him. Pain that was once so deep it was almost physical, but that had dulled by the last time she encountered him. But today, during that mockery of a dinner, she felt it again, like a new and open wound.
Good,
she thought as she paced the room.
He deserves it.
The door opened just then with a loud hiss, and the expected sound of mechanical, rhythmic breathing followed close behind. She spun around and drew herself to her full height, which was miniscule compared to him. As always, he seemed to take up the entire room.
She watched his black helmet tip down and then up as he appraised her. Surprisingly, he didn’t threaten her right away, simply placed his hands on his hips and walked over to the windows. For the longest time he gazed out at the sky, now splashed with hues of orange and red as daylight gave way to dusk. Things always got darker whenever he was around.
“What have you done with Ha…with Captain Solo?” she demanded as though she was ordering the Alderaani palace staff about.
He said nothing, and she clenched her fists.
“Where is he?”
If she hadn’t known better, she could have sworn that he smiled, probably to mock her. Swallowing hard, she tried to maintain her composure.
“You care for him, I suppose,” he finally observed, his voice seeming disapproving beneath the booming monotone. “I must say, Princess, I always believed you to have higher standards.”
“What do you know? You have never cared for anyone in your miserable life!”
He spun around and stalked toward her then, and she flinched. Not at his imposing presence, but at the shadow of sadness that passed over him just for a second. Her better judgement told her not to press the issue, but her tongue longed to provoke him. Her tongue won out.
“Don’t tell me,” she scoffed. “That is completely impossible! You—you’re a…you are not capable of love.”
“Love!” he thundered. “Please tell me that you are not in love with that scoundrel!”
She clasped her hands behind her back and glided over to the sofa. “He’s a good man,” she replied coolly, “which is infinitely more than I can say for you.”
“He is a criminal. A smuggler. A pirate. A man of ill repute. He is below you.”
“And I thought we were all the same to you,” she retorted. “Why do you care, anyway?”
“I assure you, I do not,” he replied, returning to the window. “But falling in love with him is sure to bring you nothing but suffering.
“Why? Because that is what love brought to you?”
Again he was speechless, and she dug into her foothold.
“Not that I’m surprised. After all, you destroy everything you touch.”
“Foolish ideals destroy, Princess,” he warned, still gazing out the window. What was he looking for, anyway? “Of course, I’d have hoped you would have learned that by now. Your misguided devotion to your hapless cause will be your undoing. Or at least the undoing of your dashing young Captain.”
She wanted to fly at him, to hit him hard until he was brought to his knees. But at least they had gotten around to the threats, now. Otherwise, the conversation was entirely too strange.
“It doesn’t matter what you do to us, Vader,” she said shakily. “In the end, you won’t win. People like you never win.”
A deep breath of impatience escaped him, and the elusive air of vulnerability around him disappeared as he turned and headed for the door. He opened it with a wave of his hand and motioned the three stormtroopers guarding the room inside.
“We are finished here. Take her to the cell block when I have finished with Captain Solo.”
The way he said it made her shiver. She realized that, thanks to her acerbic remarks, Han would probably pay a greater price. The way to hurt her was by hurting him, and that’s what their little chat had been about. She watched in horror as he swept out of the room, hating him more than ever.

RE: Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader Character Challenges - New Sep. 29 - Saga Vader/Luke or Vader/Le
Nice stories all.
I thought people gave up on the challenges, so I didn't post my Sept. challenge story. So here it is:
Anakin stood in front of the viewport in his sparse quarters at the Jedi Temple, staring at the neverending cityscape. It was evening in this side of the galactic capital world and soon he would depart for Naboo with Padmé and their droids. It was going to be the first time they would be together without the watchful eyes of Jedi, medics, healers, and security officers. He instinctively understood they would have to confront the reality of their love and come to a decision on whether they could ever make a relationship work.
Deep in his heart, Anakin already knew what he wanted. He wanted Padmé, now and forever. She was the other half of his heart, the other half of his soul, and there could be no life without her. That day on Geonosis, when they were about to be taken into the arena, she'd pledged her love, and he accepted it. They had been bonded from that moment forward. No Code or social rules could interfere or break it. They fought it side-by-side until they'd been separated and when she found him injured in the hangar, she remained with him until she was forced to have her own injuries treated. Since he was fitted with a prosthetic arm she'd come to see him almost every day. As soon as he had recovered enough to travel, she asked Obi-Wan if Anakin could accompany her home. Amazingly, Obi-Wan consented.
He had no doubts she loved him and wanted to be with him, but would she accept the ultimate bond of marriage? The idea had been in his mind and heart since boyhood. Simply carrying on an affair with Padmé wasn't enough and didn't properly honor what they had. They needed something to ensure their bond could sustain them for the long separations to come. His close brush with death on Geonosis and the death of his mother reminded him that life was too short. One had to take whatever happiness was offered.
As for the Council, they need not know for now. One day I'll be on the Council, Anakin thought, and then I'll change things.
For now, he had to trust that Padmé Amidala Naberrie wanted to be his wife.

These are all really good! All of the authors have taken care to show the hints of Vader in Anakin and vice versa.

I started to write an Anakin/Leia viggie yesterday but after like three paragraphs, I didn't know what else to write.
