About damn time something happened between Han and Leia....

angry at Rebel leaders for not believing Luke

and that will be angry at you if you make them right wink

LOVED the "Hold me" line at the end. Y'know, I'm reading two fics weaving the movies in like this, and I can't imagine ever trying to do it myself.

Nice job.

Now, what are you doing to Luke?

What a cliffhanger! Blasted Rebel leaders. Though it would be a boring plot point if they'd called off the attack, and it wouldn't have helped Luke's situation, anyway.

It was on her fifteenth day in the darkness of the Nirauan cave when Mara Jade awoke to discover a rescuer had finally arrived.
It was not, however, any of the potential rescuers she would have expected.
It was Luke.

Ok! I admit it! I loved the way Leia told Han about Luke... WONDERFUL! grin grin grin

Now, why do I foresee Han and Leia having to pull off a rescue of Luke from either the Death Star or Coruscant? shock

RebelMom: Yes, that turned out to be quite a cliffie. But don’t worry, I won’t leave you hanging too long… tongue

dianethx: I liked the Leia/Han section too. Those two deserve some mush after all that I’ve put them through. tongue And the Rebel leaders are being very careful when it comes to Luke… perhaps too careful. But their wariness is fairly understandable. Luke’s never exactly gone out of his way to appease them in any sense. As for Ben… interesting thought, but I think he’s just concerned about his former apprentice. (Luke, not the other one… wink ) Indeed, we shall see….

Jedi_BMK: Thank you! Glad you liked that scene. I actually found Han and Leia a lot of fun to write. happy You’ll find out what happened to Luke in the next post, I promise. grin

Katrina42: You’ll see…. mischief

JediFalcon: Yes, no more jealousy. Finally. tongue

Marsa: Thank you! I’m glad you’re enjoying the story. And I hope you do like my ending… I like it, but I’m not sure everyone else will… worried wink

Jadeling: Glad you liked the Han/Leia moment. And as for Luke and Mara… well, you’ll see. wink Thanks for reading!

skywalker64089: I’m evil? grin Good to know. And it’s only two more posts now. As for keeping it going… [pious] All things must come to an end, you know. [/pious] wink Although I have a few sequel ideas that don’t want to leave me alone…

Edit: Whoops, make that three posts left. Forgot the epilogue. doh!

Jesina: tongue Yeah, I left them hanging long enough… Poor Han.

And make the Rebel leaders right? thinking Now there’s an idea… wink And y’know, I didn’t intentionally stick movie quotes in. They just kind of worked their way in and stuck… I’ve obviously watched ROTJ far too many times. tongue

What am I doing to Luke…? batting What makes you think I’m doing anything? wink

RedGold: shock It... it wasn’t my fault! It was Lando! *runs away*

Jedi-2B: LOL, that would have taken the wind out of the finale just a tad. wink And they do unfortunately have a point… Luke’s loyalties are uncertain at the best of times…

GreatOne: I thought you might. Does it make up for my killing Han in that other story we shall not mention…? wink Nice Han/Leia moment, see? tongue

As for a rescue… thinking Leia and Han will be pretty busy trying to stay alive themselves on the Endor Moon, unfortunately. Luke will have to take care of himself, I guess… should that be a worrying thought? wink

Oh...nice. Really nice.

Poor Leia! I can't believe they don't really believe her. I mean, yes, Luke, to them, is an Imperial and all that, and they don't know how trustworty he is, but really, when your informant who usually comes through for you tells you to pull out of the mission, you probably should listen.

And now I'm worried about what's going on with Luke. If he's been found out or not. And since the story can't go the normal way of the movie- Luke going off to meet Vader- I wonder what you're going to do with it...

So please post more- I really liked it.

Nice post, with a loathsome cliffhanger, though.

So Luke's blown his cover, and the rebels won't believe him...This is not looking good for either of them.

Luke Skywalker sat on a hard bench inside the main hold of Vader’s personal shuttle. Leaning forward, arms on his knees, he stared down at his cuffed wrists. His father stood over by the door, hulking and silent. Vader had barely said a word to him since the truth had been revealed. Luke didn’t know quite what to read in that silence: Anger? Disgust? Disappointment? Shame?

It had happened so quickly. Luke had been trawling through information in the Data Collection room in Imperial Palace, doing a last minute check before leaving with his father and Palpatine for the Death Star. He’d come across a strange citation about the superweapon, an odd inconsistency that hadn’t been in the plans he’d accessed earlier.

There wasn’t enough information to reliably draw conclusions. To gather any real data, he would have to access Palpatine’s heavily-guarded personal files, something he’d never done before. To do so would immediately betray his position.

Luke accessed the files. Instantly, he knew, the system would register his identity, track his data-trail. Alert the Emperor.

And Palpatine would know all.

Luke’s worst fears had been confirmed: the Rebel attack was a trap. A perfectly executed one, designed to destroy the Alliance for all time. Luke had exited Palpatine’s files, his stomach cold with horror and fear.

A trap – Leia could die. And he’d given her those plans.

His fault.

Luke knew that he had perhaps ten minutes – enough time to either alert Leia, or to attempt an escape before Palpatine’s net closed around him. Not enough for both.

Escape was not an option. He had encoded a message to Leia, sending it tight-beam to her secured channel. He prayed it would reach her in time.

Then, sitting at his desk in the middle of the vast deserted study area, Luke had closed his eyes. He had leaned forward, bowing his head over the gleaming desk surface. For some minutes he sat, completely motionless. Then he had drawn a breath and stood. He straightened his shoulders, lifted his chin, and strode for the Emperor’s throne room.

The way was clear until he reached the corridor outside the throne room. Red-cloaked guards had stepped forward to impede his path; Luke had swept his hand and sent them all sprawling.

This would be under his own power. It was his last and only dignity – a dignity that was his due. He would not be dragged before Palpatine in chains.

The doors were locked. Luke extended a tendril of the Force, and the dark metal opened before him. He stepped inside.

The air within the dark chamber was fraught with emotion. Vader knelt before the Emperor, and Palpatine was leaning forward, his face twisted in rage. He halted mid-word as Luke entered, lifting his amber eyes to stare at Luke. Vader looked up at the Emperor, then rose and turned to Luke.

Luke stood under the malevolence of their combined gazes. He lifted his chin, met Palpatine’s eyes steadily. He heard red-cloaked Royal Guardsmen flow in through the doors behind him, but his gaze never wavered from the Emperor’s.

He reached into his cloak and drew out a silver lightsaber hilt – his father’s lightsaber. Vader stiffened, and Palpatine drew back. Luke knelt, placing the lightsaber on the ground. He looked up; not at Palpatine, but at Vader. “My father,” he said sadly, “was a great man once.” And he stood.

Vader did not move. Palpatine stared first at Luke, then at Vader. Then the Emperor’s face twisted in contempt. He transferred his glare to Luke again. “Seize him,” he spat.

Luke stood unmoving as cuffs closed over his wrists, as he was dragged backwards. “You will not win,” Luke said as they pulled him through the doors, his eyes on Palpatine’s. “Whatever happens to me. You will not win.”

Palpatine lifted a hand. “Stop.” The guards halted, and Palpatine walked forward. “Foolish child,” he said softly. “Do you think I had not foreseen your treachery?” He smiled, revealing rotten teeth. “I have won already, boy. And you…” He looked down at Luke, the light in his eyes gleaming sickly. “I have seen what you will become. All that I can make you. It is your destiny. And you still bleat defiance?” He laughed, a disturbing sound. “I will despoil you, until nothing of Luke Skywalker remains. Know that, foolish child. Know that.” He flicked his bloodless fingers, turning towards his throne. “Take him away.”

What you will become.

Was the Sith lying? An odd sensation flickered in Luke’s stomach, but he couldn’t – didn’t want to – tell what it was, and so ignored it. He would not be vulnerable. Never vulnerable.

The last thing Luke had seen before he was pulled away was his father; dark helmet turned in Luke’s direction, empty eyeholes watching him. Then the door closed, and Luke was dragged away. He sat in a bare cell for what seemed an eternity before Vader appeared, with three stormtroopers. They had herded Luke onto an Imperial shuttle, and Luke felt it launch and go to hyperspace.

That had been hours ago. Luke had an idea of where they were heading, and estimated the ship to be nearing the end of the journey. He turned his head, examining his father from the corner of his eye. Vader stood motionless by the door, hands clasped behind him. As though sensing Luke’s gaze, his helmeted head turned. Luke looked away.

Vader stepped forward slowly; one step, two. He stopped. Then he strode across the metal floor to loom over Luke. Luke stared down at his cuffed wrists, at Vader’s polished boots.

“It was Kenobi,” Vader said. “Wasn’t it.”

Luke said nothing. Vader’s gloved hand darted out, grabbed Luke’s tunic front, dragged him to his feet. “Answer me,” the Sith Lord demanded. “Was it Obi-Wan?”

“I chose,” Luke said. “My choice.”

Vader thrust him away. “So you say,” he said, leaden tones disdainful. “So you say.” He turned his back to Luke. “You are weak, boy. A gullible child, taken by his lies. To think that I once imagined you worthy of becoming a Sith.” He shook his head, strode back to the door without looking at Luke again.

Luke lowered his head further. His cuffed hands curled into fists, but he said nothing.

The rest of the journey passed in silence.

When the ship touched down, Luke was unsurprised to find himself in the Death Star docking bay. Vader dismissed the stormtroopers and led the way through the station towards Palpatine’s throne room.

They reached the anteroom to the chamber. Vader halted. Luke stopped in his wake, looking warily at the Sith Lord. “And yet…” Vader said slowly, as though continuing a discussion only briefly suspended. “Your power is undeniable.” He turned and looked at Luke for a long moment.

Luke felt the weight of that regard. He lifted his chin. Vader said, “You will serve Palpatine. He is your master now.”

“I would sooner die,” Luke said. “Father.”

Vader was silent for a moment. Then he said, “You will die, if you refuse. I will kill you.”

“Yes,” Luke agreed. “You will kill me, by your master’s bidding.”

Vader turned away, and Luke said, “Such power you have, Darth Vader. Such mighty glory.” The depth of contempt in his voice surprised even him. He stepped toward his father. “Milked for your strength in the Force by a crippled old man. Dependant on him, even as he drains the last inklings of humanity from your soul. Dreaming your miserable dreams of glory, when both of you know you have not the courage to rise against him.” Luke paused, and said, “What a fate for the man who was once greatest of all the Jedi.”

Vader spun back, but did not speak. Luke watched him. “It is the truth,” he said, after a moment. “You know it is.” A pause; Luke lowered his chin, his eyes narrowing, his lip curling. His voice dropping, becoming a hiss that snaked from his lips and struck vulnerable flesh. “Anakin Skywalker has become a slave, once again.”

Vader lifted his gloved hands; Luke’s own hands flashed up, repelling his father’s invisible blow. Vader rocked slightly. He lowered his hands and looked at Luke in silence for a time. “You have grown powerful indeed,” he said at last. His voice was unlike Luke had ever heard it: it had a strange dull edge. “More than you realise.” He turned on his heel with a flick of dark cloak and strode for the turbolift.

Luke lowered his hands in confusion. Vader stood inside the turbolift, waiting for him; Luke went in warily, and Vader pressed the control to take them upwards. Luke opened his fingers and closed them, opened them again, and the doors slid open on the throne room.

Luke stepped forward to meet his destiny.

Hmm... I seem to have discovered a strange affinity for cliffhangers... tongue

The lack of a self-preservation gene so commonly associated with Skywalkers seems to be rearing its ugly head. Luke's pressing all the buttons to push Vader now. The question is whether or not things will register in time. And where was a certain you know who that tends to hang around the Imperial Palace while all this was going on? Can't wait for more.
