“Does he know that I’m your brother?” he asked patiently.
Her face became wary. “No,” she said, and glanced away. “He doesn’t need to know that.”
Gah, Of course he needs to know
that
! That's the thing keeping you two apart.
Great post,

Jesina:
I always maintained that Wedge was a better pilot than Luke anyway.
Not getting into that one...
Nothing wrong with slow..."False Truths" is on 9 chapters and JUST made it through the first week
Yes... but there's a lot happening in that. This one is pretty heavy on character over plot, hence the slowness...
I'm absolutely terrible at writing action-y plots. However, as I said, things are going to start happening pretty soon.
How, though, does Palpatine not sense Luke's betrayal? I worry for whenever he finally does...
Well, Palpy's not all-seeing. Having said that, however...
[Emperor voice] Well should you worry...[/Emperor voice]
GreatOne:
You're back!
Thought you might have run away from all the Luke-ness.
So much conflict!
But conflict is fun!
CommanderK23:
That's the thing keeping you two apart.
Someone needs to tell her that...
Great post, Knight_Aragorn
Thanks!

Slow isn't a problem as long as it's good slow. Which would be the case here.
I'm am wondering, could Luke be in any worse of a situation without being in direct danger? He's hiding his allegiances from the Emperor, he has to live with the threat of Mara exposing him, Vader's obviously going to be mad about being disabled at the Death Star and he's stuck killing Rebels to appease the walking corpse. The only thing he's got going for him is Leia who he can only meet in secret. If this is still the beginning, how bad is Luke's life going to get?
Of course, I'll be looking forward to more.

Character is important.
You are really putting Luke through a lot here. I do hope Leia will tell Han about Luke though.

Have I told you lately how much I really, really love this fic? If not, then I do. Love the byplay between Jade and Luke (gotta wonder why she hasn't turned him in yet). Wondering what is going to happen between father and son when Vader finds out that Luke is a traitor to the Empire. Hoping that Leia tells Han soon, before it's too late.
Great job. Looking forward to more. Slow is GOOD. Never speed up your fic because others are impatient. We will wait.

But I do love this story. Just seeing the thread title updated makes me grin.

I'm really enjoying this. I love the interaction between H/L and L/M (or lack thereof in some cases).
I can't wait to see where this leads.

I don't think it's moving slowly at all! I think the pace is perfect. I love being immersed in Luke's thoughts and feelings. Lovely work, as usual!
As he walked down dark corridors to his empty rooms, he murmured to the gloom, “I do what I must.” There was no response, and Luke wished desperately that his sister were near. She overcame the shadows in his heart like no one else could.
Well, Mara had, once. But that was gone now, and he doubted it would ever come again.
Poor Luke!
Another wonderful update! Han is mighty jealous, isn't he?

Nice summary. Poor Luke does have a lot on his plate, doesn't he? Good thing he's... coping...so...well?

I couldn't agree more. Character is always my favourite part of any story -- whether it's one I'm reading or one I've writing. Glad you're liking this so far!
dianethx:
Good to see you back!
Glad you're enjoying the story. And thank you for your words in regard to the pacing... I was just a little concerned people might be getting bored with all the dialogue. It is going somewhere....
I've already completed the story and can assure you that I have no plans of changing anything or speeding it up, lol. It's staying as it is. Thanks for letting me know you're still reading!
obaona:
I've been so bad, not replying.
Yes, bad oba!
Kidding, kidding... So long as you're still reading, I'm happy.
Slow? It's not slow, not to me - it's thorough.
Why am I not surprised, considering "Drive You Mild"'s thoroughness...
Which is a very good thing.
Thank you so much... glad you're still around.
Senator_leia73:

Hmm... could be.

... you might say that.
Thanks for the feedback, everyone. The next post should be up tomorrow evening. It's only fairly short, so I'll try to fit another one in later in the week as well. The meeting between Ben and Luke is coming up soon...
Promises to be interesting.

RE: Legacy of Light (OT AU -- L/M, L/H, Ben, Vader) UPDATED 1/31
Here it is...
Leia watched Luke go, then crossed her arms and tapped her foot. Han sauntered up.
“Bundle of fun, isn’t he?” he drawled. Leia sent him a dark look and turned on her heel.
“Let’s go,” she muttered.
Han led the way out of the park. They caught a speeder back to the spaceport, where Chewbacca was waiting for them in the
Falcon.
Soon they were speeding through hyperspace again, back towards the base on Yavin.
“So…” Han said out of the blue. They were sitting in the main hold of the ship: Leia at the table, an array of notes and data-displays spread before her; Han over at the dejarik board, watching her. She looked up as he spoke, and he said, “Did Skywalker plant the information that lured the Death Star to Dantooine?”
Leia shook her head. “He’s too valuable an operative,” she said. “The risk was too great.” Han frowned slightly and Leia said, “An operative on the Death Star did it.”
“He died with the station?” Han asked.
“Yes,” Leia said, and added quietly, “He gave his life for the Rebel cause.”
Han didn’t say anything. “Luke secured the position for him,” Leia told him. “He coordinates a number of our operatives within the Empire. He keeps his identity secret, though.” Han grunted, and Leia looked across at him. “Luke knows very little about Rebel operations,” she said. “He doesn’t even know where the base is.”
Han frowned. “I thought you trusted him.”
“I do.” Leia touched the data-chip Luke had given her. “Absolutely.”
“Then why…?” He sounded confused.
“At his insistence,” Leia said. “He doesn’t want to know.” She paused, then added, “The less he knows, the less can be tortured out of him if his position is ever compromised.”
“Oh,” Han said.
“So you see,” Leia said coolly. “He had his reasons for being less than ‘fun’.”
Han rose and left the room not long after that. Leia glanced after him, drummed her fingers once, then went back to the information on Luke’s data-chip. He had been right: there wasn’t a lot on it. Little more than what he’d told her, truth be told. That Palpatine was taking such care to keep the information classified was worrying. Might he suspect that the destruction of the Death Star had been a direct result of leaked plans? Could Luke be in danger? He hadn’t seemed any edgier than usual, but Luke was so difficult to read. He kept himself closed so tight in every word, every gesture. A survival trait, Leia supposed, given his position.
She glanced after Han. Perhaps that last remark had gone a little too far. She didn’t want to offend him – did she? He was so… so…
Leia growled under her breath. He wasn’t even in the room, and he succeeded in aggravating her. All those little remarks about Luke… what right did he have? He knew nothing of what Luke went through every day.
Leia blew out in exasperation. She knew that Luke wasn’t the issue, not really. That night on Dantooine – it sat between them like a wall of durocrete. They’d been so very close to going beyond this ridiculous dance. All she’d sought was comfort, somewhere safe and warm – and an end to the friction between them. And he’d pushed her away. She’d never been so hurt in her life. To open to him like that had taken such an effort, and he’d just thrown it back in her face. Leia sighed, rubbing her forehead. He was a puzzle she couldn’t fathom, Han Solo. She shook her head, then shut down the data-display and went to her berth to get some sleep.
When they arrived at Yavin base, Ben Kenobi was waiting. Leia greeted him as she descended the ramp, and he inclined his snowy head, gracious as ever. “Princess,” he said. His quiet understanding had been a great comfort to Leia over the past month. He’d been very close to Bail Organa, and must have felt his loss deeply. And yet he’d been willing to sit and listen whenever Leia felt like speaking, and sometimes when she didn’t. A few times he’d just sat with her in silence, the company easing her pain in a way she couldn’t describe.
Footsteps sounded on the ramp behind Leia, and the General’s eyes went over her shoulder. “Captain Solo,” he said. “Chewbacca.”
Han stepped around Leia, nodded to the General, and went off around the side of the ship, followed by his Wookiee first mate. Checking some faulty part or other, no doubt.
The General focused his pale-blue eyes on Leia again and asked softly, “How was Luke?”
“Well, I think,” Leia said as they walked toward the door. “He agreed to meet with you.”
The General smiled. It was a strange smile: quietly ironic and somehow very sad. “He was less than enthusiastic, I’m sure.”
“Well…” Leia strove for a polite way to put it, and found none. “Not really.” There was a great deal of emotion between Luke and the former Jedi who had raised him, all running deep and very, very complex. Luke’s eyes went even flatter than usual when the topic of the General was raised, and his voice became very bitter.
The old man,
he called him, with that strange disdainful twist to his lips.
“So I imagine,” said the General. He was quiet for a while. “How do you think he is coping?”
Leia was surprised by the question. She glanced at Kenobi and found his blue eyes intent on hers. Waiting for her answer. “Well…” Leia thought about it. “He seems to be handling things. He’s always so calm, so composed.”
“Mmm,” murmured the General. He didn’t seem convinced.
“Is something the matter?” Leia asked, but he only shook his head.
They walked to the command centre and he told her that more Rebel deaths had occurred while she had been away. Palpatine had stepped up his persecution since the attack, and Vader was rumoured to be after Rebel blood after his humiliating defeat.
Leia closed her eyes as she listened to the litany of deaths, reaching within herself for strength to keep going. It seemed never-ending, sometimes. What hope was there, when even victory brought such hardship? The General paused and touched her arm. Leia looked at him gratefully.
They would keep going. They had to.
What alternative was there?
Next post: Luke and Ben. "So, we meet again..."
It should be up in the next couple of days -- sometime over the weekend at latest.
What could Ben have to tell Luke...?

This one is pretty heavy on character over plot, hence the slowness... worried I'm absolutely terrible at writing action-y plots. However, as I said, things are going to start happening pretty soon.
Well, you said you liked my action stuff...if you want any help, or a sounding board or anything (I've used
banana
like that on occasion, and
Red
and
Ewok
and
Mag
) let me know. And don't worry about it being character over plot...wait til you see the next story I have in the works...I'm going to have all of, I think, four readers on that one. Anyway, character is a good thing if you do it well (and you DO), and think how many movies/books are written that are completely absent action...
Review
Leia growled under her breath. He wasn’t even in the room, and he succeeded in aggravating her.
Sounds like LOVE to me....
He was a puzzle she couldn’t fathom, Han Solo.
As does that
Looking forward to the Luke and Ben post...and I have no idea what he wants to talk to him about...

“Bundle of fun, isn’t he?”
Now Han's just trying to set Leia off. They just need to kiss and get it all out there. On second thought, those two bickering can be quite enjoyable. Just do whatever you think is best.
I'm quite curious as to what you have planned for that meeting between Luke and Ben.
So, if you could get that up soon, that would be great.

Looking forward to Luke and Ben's meeting.
