In a way, Vader failed his master again. He should have killed Fothe himself. Unless he has something else in mind, which I'm note sure.

Whew...it's been too long. Come on everyone, comments are requested!! That means you, lurkers! :P

Explosions rocked the prison compound as the Jedi Depa Billaba and Barriss Offee led several Bothans towards their shuttle. Their green lightsabers served as a beacon of hope to the haggard aliens. If not for the Jedi and the timely arrival of the newly formed Rebel Alliance, there would be no telling of the horrors the Empire would have inflicted. Even so, the Bothans had very little hope. Yes, Jedi might be on the side of the Rebels, but they had heard the rumors. The rumors of the one who stalked Jedi. The Sith Lord and the grand general of the Imperial fleet. Vader. Said by some to be the Jedi once known as Anakin Skywalker, he was nearly relentless in his hunt for Jedi. He had even managed to bring one into the Imperial side. With Vader out there, not even the Jedi could be invincible. But the thing that stabbed these Bothans the most was the knowledge that they were but a few that could be rescued. And not long before the Rebels began their daring operation, several new Star Destroyers, complete with garrisons of stormtroopers, had been assigned to the system. As it was, they would be extremely lucky to leave with their lives. Either way, Bothawui was lost. One particular Bothan felt this weight and actually collapsed under it. Borsk Fey'lya struggled to get to his feet when he heard the hum of a lightsaber above him. Depa Billaba looked down at him, extending her hand for him to take.

He growled and swatted it away. “What's the point?!” he shouted. “We've lost our home and hope because of your little 'rescue!'” He looked down at the ground as explosions roared in the distance. “You Jedi on one side, the Empire on the other...what point is there to any of this?”

Depa offered her hand again. “Hope. If you die, then your home is truly lost. But if you live...then you can eventually reclaim and rebuild. If you live, you have hope,” she said to him. He just stared at her until she asked, “What is your name?”

“Fey'lya,” he said, grasping her hand. “Borsk Fey'lya, madam Jedi.” His voice carried a kind of nobility as the Jedi helped him to his feet.

“Borsk Fey'lya, I am honored to help you and your race. Perhaps you will all be able to help the Alliance,” Billaba smiled at him. Another explosion boomed out behind them and the Jedi Master winced. “After we get out of here that is.” The Jedi sprinted off after the rest of the group with Fey'lya behind her. Barriss Offee was waiting at the shuttle's ramp as the two of them arrived. “How many are there aboard?”

“Fifty I'm sorry to say. I wish we could do more, but...” the green-skinned Jedi said, waving towards the fires behind them and up at the sky where a space battle raged.

“I know Barriss, but we must do what we can. Let's get them out of here,” Depa said.
**********************************************************************************
In space, several starfighters dodged in between Imperial patrol ships and TIE Fighters as a pair of captured assault frigates waited just outside the Imperial ships' weapons range. Aboard one of them, former Senator Bel Iblis stared out at the space battle. Beside him stood Bail Organa, his face creased with displeasure. “You disapprove Organa?” Bel Iblis asked.

“Well, someone once said, 'battles are ugly affairs.' He was right,” Organa replied.
“Perhaps so. Who said that anyway?” Bel Iblis asked, turning.

“I can't remember. Probably one of the Jedi,” Bail said, smirking a bit. He glanced at the other man and noticed that he seemed to be bouncing up and down on his heels. “A bit restless? You want to be out there with them, don't you Garm?”

The Corellian almost laughed. “Yes Bail. I do. I don't like sitting out here waiting,” he said.

“General Bel Iblis! We're getting a comm from Red Leader. The geese are flocking home!” one of the communications officers said.

Garm Bel Iblis drew himself up to his full height. “Tell them that they are to do whatever is necessary to escort them back to the ship,” he thundered.

Back around Bothawui, the shuttle carrying the Jedi and the rescued Bothans escaped orbit. A squadron of Z-95 Headhunters surrounded the shuttle to escort it while a small flight of brand new Koensayr Y-Wings attacked one of the patrol ships. Proton bombs dropped from compartments on the underbelly of the fighters, causing the ship to split apart roughly at the midsection. The fighters banked away, leaving the destroyed wreck behind them as they joined the Headhunters and the shuttle as they flew for all they were worth. As a flight of TIE Fighters pulled up behind them, the Headhunters broke off, banking to the side and slowing their thrust so they fell behind the TIEs and triggered their laser cannons. The TIEs blew apart in seconds, the pilots cursing the idiot who decided that deflector shields weren't necessary in Imperial fighters. The shuttle and Y-Wings finally landed in the launch bay of the cruiser and the Headhunters followed shortly.

“General, they're in!” one of the Rebel officers said.

“Get us out of here,” Bel Iblis said. In seconds, the stars elongated into streaks and the Rebel ships vanished into hyperspace, leaving the Imperial forces at Bothawui in disarray. If not for the fact that the Alliance's attack had be a complete surprise to the Empire, their forces might have overpowered them. Luckily, the Force was on their side. For the moment, at least.
**********************************************************************************
An Imperial shuttle slowly drifted down onto the landing platform, its large side wings folding up like some hideous bird. The ramp extended and Darth Vader and Mara Jade slowly marched out and towards the main tower of the Emperor's palace. Vader was pleased with Mara's adherence to her loyalties and disgusted with how Sara betrayed them. He also felt a twinge of fear. He had, after all, decided to spare Aeon Fothe and the woman with him. He wasn't sure how the Emperor would react. The doors parted and Vader mentally shrugged. He would find out soon enough. Vader and Mara slowly entered Palpatine's throne room, standing at the edge as they saw a hologram of one of the Imperial fleet commanders speaking to the Emperor.

“So, you lost fifty Bothans, Captain Needa?” Palpatine said.

“I'm afraid so. Whoever these people were, rumors from the ground forces suggest Jedi involvment, my Lord,” Needa replied.

“Jedi. Why do they continue to persist in putting themselves in my way?” Palpatine said to himself. Then to Needa, “You needn't worry about a follow up strike. The only reason that they escaped was that their attack caught you unawares. I doubt you will make the same mistake again. Am I understood?”

“Understood perfectly, my Lord,” the captain said, bowing his head. The hologram disappeared and Palpatine beckoned Vader and Mara forward.

“It seems as though a rebellion has finally started. Be mindful Lord Vader. If all goes well, you may be able to squash it before it truly becomes a threat,” he said, his voice shifting to his grave, scratchy voice that he reserved for the moments when he was Darth Sidious. “Now. What happened to Lady Stone?” he asked.

Vader wasted no time, “Stone betrayed us, Master. She had Fothe helpless and then she turned on us. Mara killed her.”

Sidious was silent for several minutes, contemplating and questioning the Force. “Jade. Leave us,” he said at last. She bowed her head and left the room. Sidious stood and said, “Lord Vader. Mara must never know this. As you know, Sara was the first of my Hands. As such, I was able to see into her mind and, in many ways, control it. Stone's hatred for Fothe was cultivated by me, though she had some anger towards him to begin with. I fed the fire until I thought it would stand on its own and she would be ours completely. When I felt that she was at the critical moment, I cut off my connection to her. I knew she would either kill him and be one of us, or she would betray us. I cared not for the outcome. I knew that if she betrayed us, you would handle the situation. But since Mara killed her, that cements her on our side. She is ours, Lord Vader,” Sidious said, a twisted grin forming on his face as Vader took it all in.

“Will she become Sara's replacement, Master?” Vader asked.

“In time Lord Vader, she will become more than that,” Sidious replied, turning and staring out the window of his throne room, staring into the stars of his Empire. “Soon, nothing can stand in our way.”

I'm rather surprised by the poor defenses the Imperial put up against the Rebel alliance.

Well, seeing as how the Empire had yet to consider the Rebel Alliance a serious threat until they got their hands on the Death Star plans, and really not even then, ie. "Any attack made against this station would be a useless gesture." Not to mention that the Empire is built on arrogance and overconfidence. Don't worry, the ruthless side will show itself soon. wink

w00t! Fresh new update!!! Lots of interesting stuff I think!

Leia Skywalker, currently under the assumed name of Leia Bel Iblis, ducked behind a bulkhead as a flurry of blaster bolts flew down the corridor. It seemed that Palpatine had outsmarted the Alliance yet again. Leia didn't like the thought of the Force favoring the Emperor, but it certainly seemed like it. She cursed herself for leaving her lightsaber back aboard the ship, then whipped her hand out and fired several blaster bolts of her own down the corridor.

“You know, that just pisses them off,” a voice to her left said. Leia jumped and aimed her blaster and very nearly pulled the trigger before she noticed that the voice belonged to Jan Ors, one of the strike team members.

“Jan, I didn't even hear you!” Leia said. She didn't bother mentioning that her Force senses were trained on the stormtroopers, not her teammates.

“That's kind of the point in these battles. First rule, don't let the enemy know where you are,” Jan replied.

“Yeah!!! Come on, I'm right here!! Come and get some!!” came a loud and quite boisterous voice from down the corridor, which was quickly followed by rapid fire rounds of blaster fire. A few moments later, Kyle Katarn rolled into the corridor with Leia and Jan.

Jan glanced at Leia, looking rather annoyed. “Of course, there are other schools of thought,” she muttered.

“They don't like when you shoot at 'em. Figured that out myself,” Kyle said, pulling himself up to his feet.

“No kidding. Did you get it?” Leia asked.

“Yeah, and the big-wigs were right. This isn't just big, this is huge. Too bad we can't deliver it,” Kyle said, holstering his blaster pistol and tossing his spent rifle to the ground.

“What do you mean?” Jan asked, looking at her partner.

“I mean that there's no way our ship can launch right now. These bucket heads are probably waiting for that, and I don't feel like having holes put in my ship,” he stated.

“Your ship? Ha. You act like you paid for the Crow,” Jan retorted.

“Either way, unless we get reinforcements, we're stuck here.”

Leia frowned and then stretched out to the Force. Then she felt it. A Rebel ship. She tried to find an open mind to call for help when she realized it was already coming. She stood and checked the charge on her blaster. Just enough. “Kyle, do you have your lightsaber?”

“Always kid. Why didn't you bring your's?”

“I don't like showing off, especially not to Imperials. It's still on the Crow.”

Jan looked at her and said, “There's no way you can get there right now. Besides, if what I've heard is true, the less you have your lightsaber on you, the better.”

“Jan's right. I'll handle the Jedi thing. You two just act like standard commandos. Leia, I just felt it too, so let's buy them some time,” Kyle said, reaching for the lightsaber on his belt. While he had the blueprints to create a new one, he still used his father's. He pressed the activation stud and a forest green blade appeared. The hum was almost completely lost in the flurry of blaster fire from the stormtroopers. He twirled out into the corridor, drawing a complex weaving pattern with the blade that sent nearly all the blaster fire back down the hall. Leia and Jan heard the clatter of stormtrooper armor hitting the deck and chanced a look. All of the troops that had been firing at them were down.

“Nice job for someone without any training,” Leia said to herself. Four years had passed since that fateful trip to Adega and though Leia had neglected her training in order to find and serve the Rebellion, she was close to becoming a Jedi. Or, so she hoped. Either way, it had taken the better part of the past two years to locate a Rebel cell and meet with the leaders. She hadn't realized that Bail Organa was one of them, and he had immediately wanted to meet with Anakin to see what he thought of her joining the Alliance. Though Anakin and Obi-Wan would have preferred her to finish her training, they knew what she wanted. The hardest part had been telling Han. As she could have guessed, her wanting to join the Alliance had created a rift between them that had only widened. Suddenly Leia felt a hand on her shoulder.

“Hey, you awake?” Jan asked.

Leia cursed at herself and replied, “Yeah, I'm fine. Let's get out of here.”

Kyle shook his head. “Remember, we're trying to keep these guys busy so the ship can get here. We're not trying to be heroes here,” he reminded them. “The plan is for me and Jan to get back to the Crow and create a bit of a distraction after you're safely aboard that ship.” Kyle handed Leia a datacard. “That's the plans. I don't care how you do it, just get it to the Rebellion. If it doesn't make it to them...well, we can probably kiss Alderaan, Corellia, and Chadrila goodbye.”

Leia nodded and Kyle and Jan disappeared down the hall. A moment later, she heard blaster fire and the rising and falling hum of a lightsaber cutting through the air. Leia turned down the other corridor, allowing the Force to guide her to her destination. She turned left at a t-junction, then took the next right, her senses stretching out to avoid contact with any more stormtroopers. Suddenly, she felt a huge amount of turmoil coming from her previous location. “And that would be the diversion,” she said to herself. A moment more and she could sense Kyle and Jan moving away from the station at high speed. She continued down the corridor and was soon met by Rebel soldiers. Leading them, surprisingly, was a Zabrak. Even more surprising was the fact that he was wearing Jedi robes in an Imperial space station.

“Leia Bel Iblis?” the Zabrak asked, a faint sense of amusement in his tone and in his Force sense, though she had no idea what he would find funny.

“Yeah, that's me. I guess you're the rescue party I'm needing,” Leia replied, making sure to keep her sense neutral.

“Jedi Master Arc Xivix. These are my guards,” Arc stated, waving at them casually. Something about that name caught Leia's attention, but she let it slide. “Come on, our ship's this way,” he said, turning around. The Rebels followed, blasters drawn and ready. Leia jogged to catch up to him.

“What kind of ship did you bring?” Leia asked.

“Corellian Corvette. And we made sure to have a convenient excuse for its appearance here,” Arc said. Leia caught from his tone that he wanted the subject dropped, at least for the moment. They kept moving quickly, Arc and Leia both stretching out to the Force, hoping to catch any hints of danger before something bad happened.

They made it to the airlock where the ship was moored and Arc stood by the side of the hatch and started waving the troops in when Leia stopped. Her senses lit up and she knew something was coming. “Master Xivix, somethings coming,” she warned. A strange sound was thundering down the corridor. It sounded like metal rolling on metal.

Arc moved towards her and reached for his lightsaber. She could sense him calculating what it could be. “Stang. I didn't think the Empire would stoop as low to use these blasted things,” he muttered.

“What are they?” she whispered.

Arc almost didn't get to answer as three metallic circular droids rolled into sight and then stopped. “Destroyer droids!” Arc swore, his lightsaber blazing to life. The droids began unfolding, pulling themselves into standing on tripod legs, twin-barrelled blasters unfolding on each arm. At the exact moment that they opened fire, a bubble forcefield flared into existence around it. Arc began swinging his lightsaber, sending blasts back into the droideka's field, swearing as he did so, trying to keep any laser blasts from hitting Leia. “Get in the ship, I'll hold them off!” he yelled.

Leia shook her head and held out her hand. With the Force, she gripped one of the legs of the right-most droideka and dragged it into the one in the middle, sending them tumbling over each other. Arc grinned and sent the bolts fired from the one on the left into the pile of metal and turned them into scrap. Then Leia grabbed hold of the chunks of metal and hurled the bits into the last one's shield. Then she dropped to one knee and fired her blaster into each distortion in the shield, hitting the legs of the droid. It fell to the ground and Arc threw his lightsaber into it. As the destroyer droid went silent, Arc called his lightsaber back to his hand. He grinned at Leia and said, “Impressive, though I should have expected as much from a Skywalker.”

“Thanks. Wait, how do you know?!” she blurted.

Arc laughed and said, “Remember? I came to your home when you were all of five years old.” Now that he mentioned it, the memory did come into her mind again. “Come on, let's get out of here before those bucketheads find more Clone Wars relics to throw at us.”

A few minutes later, the Corvette pulled away from the station. Arc entered the bridge and watched as the station receded. “We're not out of the woods yet, Master Jedi,” said the pilot. He pointed off to starboard. “I think those two Carrack strike cruisers might take exception with us running out with the plans.”

“Don't worry about it pilot, we have reinforcements coming as well,” Xivix said. As soon as the last word left his lips, a Rebel frigate dropped back to realspace and a squadron of Y-Wings flew out of the ship's hanger. “See what I mean?” He clicked open a channel. “Gold Leader, can you keep those cruisers off our back?”

“ I copy that, Tantive IV. We're on our way,” came back the voice of the lead Y-Wing pilot. The bombers broke off into two groups and started pummeling the cruisers with high powered cannon blast and proton bombs.

“Tantive IV , this is the frigate Corellian Pride, you're clear for the jump to light speed,” came another voice over the comm.

“ Roger that Corellian Pride. Course, Master Xivix?”

“Tatooine. Take us to Tatooine, then we'll recalculate to get us to the home base at Yavin,” he said.

“Acknowledged, calculating coordinates now,” the pilot said.

Leia came up to the cockpit and asked, “Where are we going?”

“Tatooine. I'll let you transmit a message down, but it'll have to be encrypted so the Imperials can't break it,” the Jedi said.

“How would I do that?”

“Just ask him,” Arc said, waving towards a droid in the corner.

A very familiar warble sounded from the droid, and the blue, silver, and white astromech droid trundled out. “Artoo? What are you doing here?” Leia said, shocked.

“Senator Organa borrowed him from Anakin, and we borrowed this ship from Senator Organa. Though, officially, it's been 'stolen'.”

“Hang on, we're making the jump to hyperspace,” the pilot said. At that moment, a warning light flashed on the console and they saw a large, wedge shaped starship drop from hyperspace. “Imperial Star Destroyer approaching! I'm making the jump!” Leia gripped the back of the pilot's seat as the Tantive IV made the jump to lightspeed.
**********************************************************************************
Darth Vader stared into the space that the Corellian Corvette had just occupied. At the same instant, the rest of the Rebel fleet jumped to lightspeed. “Do we have their coordinates?” Vader rumbled.

“Yes sir, the larger group seemed to be heading in the general direction of Bespin, the single ship seemed to be heading for Tatooine,” said one of the officers.

Vader stretched out with the Force and tried to concentrate on the single ship. There was something familiar about it. Something very familiar. “Prepare to make the jump into hyperspace. Take us to Tatooine. And that ship. I want it taken intact,” he said, letting venom seep into his voice. He would not tolerate failure. As the crew rushed to make the Sith Lord's orders a reality, Vader closed his eyes and tried to isolate the feeling he had about the ship. There was a person or persons aboard that was strong in the Force, that much was clear. But the sensation was more than that. It was something far more familiar. It felt like...the Chosen One? No, it couldn't be, Vader told himself. Skywalker was missing and there was no way he'd come out of hiding on such a risky mission that was sure to draw the Dark Lord's attention. But still, it felt similar to him. It was confusing. And there was very little that Vader hated more than anything that confused him. In fact, it put him in a killing mood. His gaze roamed over the bridge crew, but he recalled once again his Master's words from so long ago. Not even he was irreplaceable. He looked at his right arm, remembering well how it was taken from him by Skywalker so many years ago and that Anakin had taken it from Vader the same way it had been taken from the Jedi. If Sidious wished, he would start over. But he wondered, as he did so often these days, whether Sidious would take the risk of yet another clone or whether he would choose someone else. Vader quickly shoved the thoughts out of his head. He had other concerns right now.

Somehow, I have the feeling that Leia has gotten herself in more trouble than she anticipated... and her father's clone will definitely enjoy it!

Sorry for the long length of time between updates. Had some internet troubles and wanted to be sure that I was happy with this section. I hope you guys like it, it's a bit different than how the original scenes went. lol

Tatooine. A dirtball of a planet that was on the very edge of Imperial space. Very rarely did an Imperial ship arrive, and even then it was usually a Victory or Venator-class Star Destroyer, or Carrack cruisers. It was even rarer when one of the massive Imperator-class Star Destroyers came into the system, and usually it was just passing through. Never had any higher up Imperial officials come to Tatooine. But today, at the edge of the system, a Corellian Corvette bearing the marks of the Alderaanian royal family flickered out of hyperspace and only a few moments later, an Imperator-class Star Destroyer followed. Their hulls gleamed in the light of the binary suns that hung in the background. Then the Star Destoyer opened fire. Laser blasts flared across the distance between the two starship. As the weapons hit the Tantive's shields, the smaller ship returned fire, adding more explosions to the scene as its fire hit the Star Destroyer's shields. Unfortunately for the smaller ship, the Star Destroyer was a bit faster at sublight speed and was catching up to it. Weapons blasts continued to smash against the Tantive's shields, flaring brighter with each hit as the shields began to fail. Then a turbolaser blast hit a part of the corvette that was no longer protected by the deflector shields and the ship's sensor antenna erupted in a ball of flame, sending a concussive shockwave throughout the ship.

Leia gripped a bulkhead as the deck shifted underneath her. “Master Xivix!” she shouted.

“I know, I know. They hit the sensors and the primary reactor. We're losing power fast,” he replied, frowning. The ship shuddered again, a slightly different feel than before. “That's no laser blast,” Arc muttered, scanning one of the instrument displays. “They've got us in their tractor beam. Time to get moving,” he said, taking Leia by her left arm.

“Wait, where are we going?”

“Escape pods, come on Artoo,” Arc said. The little astromech droid tootled and trundled behind them.

“Master Xivix, wait. If they have us in a tractor beam, they'll be watching for full escape pods,” Leia hissed, wrenching her arm from his hand. “We're gonna get caught, I don't think we have a choice there. But we can still get the information off this ship. Artoo?”

The little droid stopped and whistled. Leia kneeled and slipped the disk containing the data for the Empire's battle station into the droid's main disk slot and then the droid started to record.

Leia stood up. “Master Skywalker, Master Kenobi. This is Leia. Artoo is carrying data containing information on a new Imperial weapon. You need to make sure to get the information to Bail Organa on Alderaan. I cannot get the data to him myself as my ship has fallen under attack. The fate of the Rebellion and the galaxy rests with this data,” she said as Artoo recorded. Then Artoo whistled to confirm that the message was stored and he rolled down the corridor. “Make sure he gets it, okay?” she called after him. The droid whistled as if to say that she shouldn't worry. She watched Artoo disappear down the corridor and then she looked at the Jedi Master. “Well, that takes care of that part.” She went over to the nearest console and began hitting controls to access the main computer system and she found every reference to the blueprints and expertly erased them, letting the Force guide her movements even in the computer mainframe.

“That should do it then,” Arc said. “Now come on. Let's get moving. They're bound to be boarding soon.” Arc unhooked his lightsaber from his belt and drew a blaster.

“Right,” Leia muttered, pulling her own blaster out of its holster and followed the Zabrak Jedi down the corridor to one of the airlocks. They joined a group of Rebel soldiers gathered near the airlock. They aimed their blasters at the hatch, waiting. Leia could feel them coming. She glanced over at Xivix and she could tell that he felt them too. And there was something else nearby. Something dark, terrible. It froze her blood and she gripped her blaster so tightly that her knuckles turned white. The hatch began to glow white hot as multiple blasters hit it from the other side. The hatch blew in, sending smoke and sparks into the corridor. Stormtroopers began pouring through the hole, firing their blaster rifles. She returned firing, dropping a few troops before more took their place. Xivix fired a few bolts himself, electing to refrain from using his blade in these close quarters unless it was absolutely necessary.

“Fall back!” he yelled, trying to get the troops to retreat. Leia swore and started to retreat down the corridor, Xivix behind her and a few of the troops followed, still snapping off shots at the Imperials. The cold feeling Leia felt in the Force suddenly blossomed into a heat strong enough to melt a starship hull. Arc stopped and gripped his lightsaber tighter. “No. It can't be,” he whispered. Then Leia heard the familiar snap-hiss of a lightsaber activating, and then heard several screams accompanied by the hum of a saber swing. “Run Leia. Run and don't look back!” he said, a dark fear blossoming in his eyes.

Leia didn't waste a second, and neither did Arc. They ran, propelled by the Force. Leia did not know what followed them, but she was certain she didn't want to find out. Then they entered a corridor that was full of stormtroopers who had entered from another airlock. “Get them!” shouted one of the troopers. They opened fire and Leia ducked back into the corridor as Arc ignited his green blade. He started to block the blaster bolts. She leaned out and fired her blaster a few times, hitting three troopers square in the chestplates. Then she felt a searing pain in her hand and what was left of her blaster clattered to the deck. She glanced at her hand as she ducked down, pleased that it was only lightly burned. The blast had the good fortune of just melting her blaster and not taking her hand off. Then the troopers stopped firing. She glanced out and saw that their weapons were floating in the middle of the room in various states of destruction. The troopers were backing away from the Zabrak Jedi Master who stood in front of them, his lightsaber held off to the side, his left hand outstretched. “You have a choice, troopers. Stand and fight and be killed, or you can run and save your lives,” he said.

Then a voice sounded from behind them, “How about a third option? I kill you.” Leia's breath froze at the sound of that voice. A man strode out of the corridor behind the troopers, dressed completely in black, with a hooded cloak draped over him. And in his gloved right hand, a gleaming cylindrical object. She stood by Master Xivix. “A girl? I didn't think you were the type, Master Xivix. Kenobi I could see, but you?” the voice taunted.

“You stay away from her, filth,” Arc spat, bringing his saber up.

“Come now, do you really think I care about some plaything? I have eyes only for you, Jedi,” sneered the man. He let go of his lightsaber and it levitated in the air. The he pulled back his hood. The man's hair was almost steely gray and was cut fairly close to the skull. The wrinkles of age pulled on ancient scars on the left side of his face. But even so, there was no way Leia could refuse to see it. She was staring at her father. Not father, she told herself. Vader. The wicked clone created from her father. Darth Vader shrugged off his cloak and then gripped his lightsaber again. Then he looked at Leia again. She could feel him stretching out in the Force. Suddenly, his lightsaber erupted in red flame and he leapt at her. Before he even got close, Arc planted himself between them. “Just as I thought,” Vader said. “She must be extremely important, either to you, or this insurgency.” He threw Arc back, and then charged. Arc sidestepped, catching the Sith's blade on his own. “Foolish. Just foolish,” Vader sighed. He ripped a panel out of the wall and hit Arc in the back of the head with it. Xivix stumbled and then felt himself being lifted into the air. “You think that just because I'm older than I look that my skills have deteriorated? No. In fact, they've grown. Not even Skywalker himself could match me as I am now.” Arc was thrown bodily against a column and then again into a bulkhead. Then he was risen up again. “I am the most powerful Force wielder in the galaxy. You will never doubt it again.” Vader reached out with his left hand and released a burst of lightning conjured from the Force into the Jedi Master. He cried out in pain as the electric bolts seared into him.

Leia stood then for a moment, then she reached out with the Force and ripped a control panel out of a bulkhead and hurled it at Vader. Vader released his hold on Arc to slash through the panel, sending the sparking pieces falling to the deck. He glared at her and stalked forward. Then he swung out and backhanded her, sending her to the deck. She felt the tip of his lightsaber less than an inch from her face. “Wait. Your. Turn,” he growled emphatically. The saber retreated and Vader looked back at Arc Xivix. All he saw was a boot in his field of vision. Arc kicked Vader back into the bulkhead. Then he slammed his elbow into the Dark Lord's stomach. Then he stepped back, gripped Vader with the Force, and threw him into the opposing bulkhead. Xivix gripped one of the fallen panels and threw it at Vader, slamming him harder into the wall. Vader slipped down to the ground.

“So much for being the 'most powerful Force wielder in the galaxy'. You really should watch yourself,” Arc said, gripping his lightsaber in both hands. “Darth Vader, you have killed many of my comrades. By killing you, I may be opening myself to the Dark Side. But if that's what it takes to bring you to justice, then so be it!” Arc raised his weapon above his head, ready to bring it down and cleave the Dark Lord's head from his shoulders.

Vader's left hand twitched and then he raised it, releasing a burst of lightning into Arc's body, and then Vader lifted him up in the air and threw him against a wall. Then he pulled him away and then threw him into another wall. Vader pulled him away from the wall and then slammed him into the ceiling, then the floor, and finally lifted him into the center of the room. “You should know better than to underestimate an opponent. You're a Jedi Master. Or should I say, were a Jedi Master,” Vader said smugly. He threw his lightsaber into Arc's shoulder. He then pulled it back and then pulled Arc towards him. Vader stabbed Arc again, took Arc's in his left hand, then stabbed him in the same place, letting Arc out of his Force grip. The Jedi stumbled, pain surging through his body. “Goodbye, Arc Xivix,” Vader intoned, reaching out, gripping the hilts of the lightsabers and dragging them out of Arc's body, bisecting him. Vader then let a final burst of Force lightning surge into the Zabrak's body. When he hit the floor, he was dead. Vader tossed Arc's saber into the air and then cut through it. The pieces clattered to the ground and Vader shut down his own blade. Then he looked at Leia and she shuddered. “Well. It seems as though your protection is gone. Troopers! Put her in cell 218 on deck seventeen. We have special accommodations for people like you,” Vader said. The stormtroopers who still had their blasters surrounded Leia and put shackles on her wrists. “Wait! Before you're put in a cell, tell me what happened to the plans you stole,” he said, his nose barely an inch from her's, his breath almost tickling her.

“I don't know what you're talking about. We haven't done anything-” Leia started to say.

“You are part of the Rebel Alliance and a traitor! Take her away!” Vader shouted. An officer approached him as the troopers started pushing her away. “Any idea who she is, Lieutenant?”

“Sir, one of the passengers said that her name is Leia Bel Iblis,” he replied. “Also, databanks corroborate reports of this ship being stolen by unknown assailants from Bail Organa of Alderaan.”

Vader seemed to stare at a bulkhead as he processed the information. “Bel Iblis, you say?” The officer nodded. “I find it hard to believe that that crusty old Corellian would have a daughter, much less one that strong in the Force. Once she's in her holding cell, get a blood sample and transmit it to Tarkin. Have him run it against DNA archives in the Imperial database,” Vader commanded. “Yes sir!” acknowledged the lieutenant, and he turned on his heels. Vader looked down the corridor that the stormtroopers had led Leia away through and muttered to himself, “There's something about that girl.”

Another officer came up to him, this one bearing the rank of commander. “Lord Vader, the battle station plans are not aboard this ship and no transmissions were made. There was an escape pod jettisoned during the fighting, but no life-forms were aboard,” he said.

“They must have hidden the plans in the escape pod. Send a detachment down to retrieve them. See to it personally Commander,” Vader intoned. “And Commander? Leave all passengers aboard this vessel and disintegrate it. I will deal with any repercussions from Senator Organa if they arise.”

Uh oh, Lord Vader will get to the bottom of all this. However, his arrogance may lead him to his death... much like his master.

New Update! I'm keeping them fairly short right now...you know...trying to give the impression that I actually know what I'm doing...and I know I'm keeping you all in suspense. wink Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate it! To everyone else, oh well, have a nice day. :P

Luke Skywalker was looking up at the heavens, stretching out with the Force. Then he felt Biggs Darklighter approach. “Did Sapphire go home?” Luke asked.

“Yeah, she took off a while ago. What are you doing out here?” Biggs wondered.

“There's a space battle happening up there,” Luke said. “Or at least, there was. It looks like it's over now.”

“How are you following...Oh, right. I keep forgetting that Force thing,” Biggs said.

Luke chuckled and replied, “Yeah. Two ships. One of them was huge. Probably an Imperial starship.”

“What else does that Force thing tell you?”

Luke stretched out further and felt a slight resonance in the Force. “There's an escape pod coming down. Looks like...close to Master Kenobi's hut. I think I'm going to go on home. Maybe I'll call Ben and see what was in the escape pod,” Luke said, drawing his cloak closer to shut out the growing cold of the Tatooine night.

“Luke, wait. I should tell you. I'm leaving tomorrow,” Biggs said, stopping the younger man in his tracks.

“Leaving? For where?”

“The Imperial academy on Commenor. Before you say anything, I chose it because I have a friend there who can get me to the Rebellion,” Biggs stated, holding up his hand to forestall any of Luke's misgivings.

Which Luke actually didn't have. “Well Biggs, I think you're crazy, but good luck,” Skywalker replied, holding out his hand.

His friend gripped it in turn and chuckled, “Don't worry, I'll say hi to Leia when I see her.” Luke stiffened a little and Biggs grimaced. “Sorry, I didn't realize that her leaving was a sore topic.

“It's not that. Something just seems wrong. I can't place a finger on it, but...” Luke trailed off, his eyes gazing back up to the Tatooine sky.

“It's one of those crazy Jedi things?” the other inquired, a mischievous twinkle in his eye.

Luke stroked his chin in a very good imitation of Obi-Wan Kenobi and then shrugged. “Maybe. Maybe.”

Merry belated Christmas! Or whatever holiday you celebrate. Or if you're atheist or agnostic, just ignore these first three sentences. Here's the last update of 2008! It's been quite a ride so far, and I hope that I do have more than just the one reader. Come on guys, come out of the woodwork! *crickets chirp* Anywho...let's get on to the update!

Sapphire Kenobi was fast approaching the hut that her family called home. Her cheeks were wet with tears, knowing that Biggs was leaving Tatooine without her. She knew he'd come back to her as soon as he could, but she didn't have to like it. The cold wind bit into her face as she urged her speeder faster. She wanted nothing more than to sink into her bed and let the Force flow into her so much that nothing else mattered. A flash in the sky caught her eye. The flash then smashed into the sands ahead of her. The young woman's hair whipped around her head as she stared and then she wrenched the speeder towards the spot where whatever it was landed. She eased back on the speed control and the small speeder came to a stop. She stood, tying her blond hair into a ponytail behind her head. She sprang into the air, flipping in the air to land gracefully a few meters away from a crater. Sapphire gazed towards the crater, feeling the blackened sand crunching under her feet. Whatever it was, it came down hot. Then she saw it. An escape pod! Then the hatch popped open and tumbled into the sand. Then a small droid tumbled out and almost hit the sand hard, but two small jets lifted the droid and kept it from damaging itself. It floated over to the edge of the crater and tootled somewhat shakily. In the dying light, Sapphire just barely made out the blue, white, and silver colors on the astromech. “Artoo?” she called.

The little droid's head swiveled around and its photoreceptor fixed on her. It whistled with recognition and rolled over to her. “Well, it is you. Come on, I'll get you to Dad. It'd be way past nightfall before I got you back to Master Skywalker,” she said, lifted Artoo with the Force and placing him in the passenger seat of her speeder. She jumped in and gunned the throttle, speeding off towards home. Artoo kept twittering and whistling, but Sapphire had no idea what he was saying. “Sorry Artoo, I'm not Luke or Anakin, I have no idea what you're saying,” she said. Artoo moaned and went silent. Sapphire frowned and gripped the controls tighter, urging the speeder to go faster. Whatever it was that Artoo wanted to say, it must be important.

As her father's hut came into view, Sapphire saw Obi-Wan standing outside. A brief smile crossed her lips. The Tatooine environment had taken its toll on her father externally. He appeared several years older than he actually was, his face criss-crossed with the wrinkle lines of age, his hair thinning and completely silver, but she knew one thing. Thanks to daily training with herself, her mother, and the Skywalkers, her father was as physically fit as he was at the end of the Clone Wars. The Force was still strong with him and her mother. Every time she saw them, her heart swelled with pride. She pulled the speeder up to the side of the hut and hopped out, smiling at her father. “You're late Sapphire,” the old Jedi Master said.

“Well, I got sidetracked,” the younger Kenobi replied, helping Artoo out of her speeder. The droid wheeled itself over to Obi-Wan, warbling and hooting urgently. “He really seems on about something, but I have no idea what.”

Obi-Wan stroked his beard and muttered, “Leia.” At his daughter’s puzzled expression, he continued, “Anakin loaned Artoo to Master Arc Xivix. Xivix was supposed to be sending Artoo back with Leia in a week or so. Something must have happened. Maybe I should head over there.”

“Not until tomorrow. You know how bad Tatooine is at night,” Sapphire stated, giving her father a stern look that reminded him of Siri.

“Alright. Let's get inside then,” Obi-Wan said, giving one last glance at the stars.
************************************************************************************
Obi-Wan sat down on his and Siri's bed and ran his hand through his thinning silver hair. He felt a gentle tug on his robe and looked over at his wife. Siri luckily had aged a bit better than him. Something about Tatooine just agreed with her for some reason. Obi-Wan smiled at her. “Well, we have a small visitor. Sapphire found Artoo Detoo in the Jundland Wastes in an escape pod,” he said.

“I guess we need to take him home tomorrow,” she replied. She sat up and sighed a little. “Obi-Wan, there's something I need to talk to you about. I didn't bring it up until now because there wasn't any point. Remember when I left the Order?”

Obi-Wan raised an eyebrow. “Yes, why are you bringing it up?”

“I didn't actually leave the Order,” Siri confessed.

Obi-Wan turned to her, his eyes widened. “What are you talking about? There was an argument between yourself and your Master, wasn't there?”

“Yes, that part was true, but my leaving the Order wasn't. Master Yoda actually promoted me to Jedi Knight and sent me on an undercover mission. He was supposed to send someone to retrieve me at a later date, but no one ever came in time. You see, my mission with the slaver took a turn for the worse. Eventually he had taken me into the Outer Rim and drug me all around the trade routes as he loaded and unloaded slaves. I kept hoping for some Republic patrol to find and board him and then I could come back to the Order, but...soon the Republic had more than slavers to deal with,” Siri said. She looked down at the floor and then closed her eyes.

“The Clone Wars. Out here, you were behind enemy lines,” Obi-Wan said softly.

Siri nodded. “Yes. Before then, I kept hoping for help from the Temple. I didn't know how bad things had started getting back home, and when news of Geonosis came through, that blasted slaver laughed. He heard about our brothers and sisters being slaughtered, and he laughed! It took everything I had not to reach out with the Force and break his neck, but at that time, I knew that I couldn't reveal who I was. He had a fully armed crew, and I was unarmed. I might have gotten him, but I would've been shot in the back at least five times a second later. That, or I wouldn't have killed him and he would've turned me over to the Separatists. So I bided my time. Unfortunately, the opportunity for escape presented itself on Praesitlyn. That came about the same time that General Grievous invaded Coruscant. I escaped his ship and made my way to a Republic station. Of course, they didn't let me inside for days thanks to a lot of bureaucratic red tape, and by the time they did and I identified myself as a Jedi, a group of clone troopers leveled their blaster rifles at me. I didn't know why they did, but I ran and managed to escape. Eventually I made my way here, and well, you know the rest,” she said.

Obi-Wan absorbed the information calmly. “I think I understand. I seem to remember that a mission for myself and Anakin had to be canceled because of diplomatic problems on Abregado-Rae. After that, things in the Republic began deteriorating until the war broke out. But why didn't you tell me before now?” he asked.

Siri shrugged. “You accepted me into your heart Obi-Wan. I didn't think you needed to know. The Force showed me otherwise tonight,” she replied.

Obi-Wan embraced her and said, “Siri, I think I'm going to be leaving Tatooine soon. When I do, will you stay with the Lars family and take Sapphire with you?” She nodded and he smiled in return and embraced her closely, whispering into her ear, “I love you Siri Kenobi.”

Not bad! But where is 3PO? Surely the Imps will find him if Obi-Wan or Anakin don't...
