Title: Of Dispair and Hope
Author: thesporkbewithyou
Era: Just before ANH
Genra: Angst
Main Character: Yoda
Notes: This little bunny hit me after reading
Revenge of the Sith
. Stover uses what I think is second person in an imaginitive way. Anyhow, I don't think there are any major spoilers for Ep. 3, so for those who want to remain spoiler free, it should be safe for you to read it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is Yoda.
Your new home surrounds you, teaming with life. Every breath you take is like drinking from a large cup filled to the brim with the Force. It refreshes you, and revitalizes you. Although you feal darkness pulsating from areas of the dark, ominous forests, you do not fear it because it has no control over you. You do not fear the other inhabitants of this world because next to the trees, you are the tallest, and oldest living thing.
And you have the Force as your ally.
This is Yoda.
Though Dagobah is your home, you have not come here by choice. You were forced here by one who used to be close to you. The one whom they had called The Chosen. The one who was supposed to destroy the Dark Lord of the Sith, but joined their ranks instead, and betrayed his former comrades. You came here because no one would ever think that a powerful Jedi Master like yourself would ever live in a backwater planet like this.
To be a Jedi means certain death.
This is Yoda.
You have never let anger or sadness overcome you since becoming a Jedi, but now you feel an intense boil in your blood, and an overwhelming sadness that threatens to materialize in tears. Anger at yourself, for failing the Republic you loved and cared for, for nine hundred year. For failing to realize that you were training the preciouse children of the Order for the wrong war. Because of your failure, the Jedi Order was lost.
You feel sadness for the loss of the children masacred by the one who was once Anakin Skywalker. You feel sadness for the loss of countless Jedi Knights and their Masters.
This is Yoda.
But you realize there is still hope, even in the midst of this great darkness. Because even with all the corruption in the Senate, there are still people like Bail Organa and Mon Mothma who are ensuring the chance for freedom for generations to come. And even as Skywalker would do great and terrible wrongs, his children would correct them. They are the hope of the galaxy. They are the hope for the Jedi Order.
Love is a powerfull emotion. It can make people do the darkest things, or raise them to spiritual heights. It is what made the Order fail, but is needed for the galaxy to survive.
Oooh, very nice viggie! I love the show of emotions in Yoda. The Jedi's demise and Republics fall would have to effect him hard as he's seen so much of life in his time.
I really enjoyed this.
Yes, you use the style that Stover did very well and those were wonderfully insightful words.
Thanks! I felt that way as well after finishing the book, and was also a little disapointed that we didn't get anything form Yoda -though I'm hoping the movie will correct that. I mean, the guy's (or whatever he is) served this galaxy for so long, even with the Jedi then not fond of showing strong emotions like that, it really would have to effect them in that way.
Than you. I wrote -and finished- this thing during the midnight hours and was a little worried that I'd botched it up somehow. But with this all I'm really doing is adding on to what Stover gave us.
I loved Stover's style and you captured that well.
I'm glad you think that, because once again, I was writting this in the middle of the night and wasn't sure how it would come out.
Does anyone else here think Stover's a real genious?
Edit: Forgot to mention above, a couple of more viggies using Stover's style are coming, featuring most of the main cast of the Trilogy.
This is Yoda.
Wow, I've never read a fan fic in that POV before, very creative, spork
Liked the little descriptions of Dagobah and the empathetic approach to Yoda.
I'm proud of you
Good viggie
Thank you! Yoda has actually been one of my favorite characters ever since I first saw the original trilogy. I always sniffle by his death scene.
Thanks YodaKenobi. Like I mentioned before, I really liked Stover's use of second person. If you want another taste of it, I suggest you read RoTS...even though I now know you're spoiler free. He's an excellent writer. But for non-spoilerness, on the Beyond the Saga forum somewhere, there's floating around either an R2 or a Zero-One fic in second person.
