Superb!
“Ready to finish this and die?” Xanatos asked.
“Not even close.”
It was the Chosen One’s destiny to destroy the Sith, and Anakin was determined to not get killed by the first one he faced. His leg burned, and he was aware that he now lacked the strength for the powerful step-through strikes required of the combination of Shien and Djem So forms he had adopted. He had been trained in Ataru – his aged, hobbling master used it because it compensated for his advanced years. The form had landed Anakin flat on his back in many a spar session. Though, he disliked it and a closed tunnel was hardly the best place to use it, he needed the compromise. Drawing on the Force, he launched himself forward, his injured leg barely skimming the ground as he attacked. The two foes battered each other, Anakin a constant blur of motion, never giving the Sith a moment to recover between attacks. A smile slipped across his lips as he sensed Qui-Gon approach. Obi-Wan wasn’t far behind, and between the three of them, the Sith didn’t stand a chance.
I loved it.

MMM--- That was a tasty posting.
I liked that Xanthos had too much to handle. I wonder what his master will say

This is increadable. I love the background you've created and the duology of the jedi life in the earlier chapters. I love how Obi-wan and Siri (whom I usualy tend to despise) have progressed. I love how intertwined the various plots are and I absolutely adore how in character you've made every one. This is one heck of an epic. Please, please add me to your PM list.

smoke20ts
- I in some ways feel for Anakin. It's his first time to get off Dantooine and into the thick of this cold war against the Sith. His master would probably not tell him to crave excitement, but he just wants to do something.
diane
- They are going to take some precautionary steps, but it's about to get rough.
Valairy_Scot
- In some ways, I kind of saw Bren'an there as first trying it Dad's way. When that didn't work, Mom's way.
Spiritweaver
- I always thought that would be the hazard of lightsabers. If you got too close to one another in a fight or pushed into someone, it would be easy to impale someone.
Juliet316
- That was not Aayla. I didn't mean to make that confusing by giving her blue skin.
Kitara
- Aayla is actually on Dantooine, and a mindtrick wouldn't be very effective against her.
OBI-LOVE
- In some ways I think it is harder for all this to happen than what happened in canon, because the Jedi are closer-knit and family-oriented. That is the main reason for the flashbacks and the small mush moments -- to remind everyone of the family connections.
Healer_Leona
- It has been interesting to get into this Anakin's head. He still has his recklessness, but he has been trained directly under Yoda, and Yoda has pushed him. This Anakin, I think, has a healthy respect for listening to the Force, instead of canon Anakin who I see as bending the Force to suit him.
Itachi-Uchiha
- The Jedi are going to have some hard choices to make. Right now, they can't exactly just take out one of the Sith because they are trying to abide by some sense of legality. They also hope to find out who the Sith master is.
bek
- I loved this part of the post for the same reason that I loved the scene in the "The Lion King" were Mufasa rescues Simba. Bren'an has seen his dad in action and knows how a Jedi should act. He's just not quite there yet. He looks up to his dad and wants to be like Obi-Wan.
MoAngel
- Welcome! You have been added. Thanks for catching up on what is becomming a very long story, but one I continue to enjoy exploring.
Kivas
- That is if Xanatos decides to tell him.
DountCooku
- The bacta tank may have to wait. They don't want too many questions asked about Anakin. That wasn't Aayla. I again apologize for the confusion with blue skin. Unfortunately, I see the situation with Xanatos getting worse for now.
LadyLunas
- Xanatos would love nothing more than to stay around and play and try to kill a few Jedi. The one thing he understands as a Sith is that he is an important part of his master's plan and that he needs to make escapes when it doesn't look in his favor. I promise a fight with Xanatos one of these days when he's in it for the long haul and in it to win.
Jedi_Scribe
- I love Obi-Wan to death, but I really feel that Anakin in canon could have benefited from training under someone as aged and wise as Yoda.
LordPullus
- Anakin has been a happy little guy on Dantooine with Shmi nearby, contact with Padme, padawan to Master Yoda himself, and has been soaking up his master's teachings. Still, he has much to learn.
Gkilkenny
- That is something with this line of Jedi. With having families and living in the "real galaxy" where kids have school, etc., the Jedi younglings don't grow up as fast as they do in canon.
Jaira
- Awww. thanks.
Independence1776
- I wish I could say this will be the only attack against Obi-Wan. It's going to get rough.
VaderLVR
- Thanks.
Ocelotl_Nesto
- I think he would have loved to have tested how in over his head he was, but his master would have really disliked that.
calimora
- Epic is the word for this. Believe it or not, I actually am beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel on this story, though it won't be in the near future. The Jedi are struggling to hold onto their duality as they see events in the galaxy beginning to revolve around the Sith. It is going to be a task to keep it together.

I just wanted to let all my readers who receive PMs know that I did some house-cleaning to my PM list as I have some who haven't opened PMs in a while and some that I haven't seen in the story thread for quite a while (don't know if you're still reading). If you didn't receive a PM and should have, please let me know so that I can add you back on.
Thanks to Jaira for looking this over.
Chapter 66
The Senate medcenter was bustling, something Obi-Wan was thankful for as he stepped inside with Qui-Gon and Anakin. His coat kept Anakin’s wounded leg from view. Force willing no one would notice the limp his friend was doing his best to conceal. Stopping in a corner of the waiting room, Obi-Wan helped Anakin sit down.
“Wait here,” he warned sternly. “If anyone asks, you’re just … waiting.”
Obi-Wan began to push past the reception desk, drawing the attention of the young woman sitting behind it.
“Sir, you can’t go back …”
“My wife,” he said in an authoritative voice. “Siri Tachi-Kenobi … she was brought in.”
“Of course, Senator Kenobi. I didn’t recognize you at first. Go right back.”
He slipped past the desk, though Siri wasn’t the immediate object of his search. A familiar figure was entering something on a datapad while walking down the corridor. He fell into step beside her.
“Bant,” he whispered.
The Mon Calamari physician looked up with large silver eyes that shined with innate compassion. Recruited by her mentor, Jun Windu, she had joined the Jedi Order two years earlier, and had been a beautiful addition to the ranks of Jedi healers. She and Obi-Wan had become fast friends.
“Siri is fine – three doors down that way in 2-C.” Bant nodded in the general direction. “She will be able to go home as soon as they are done treating her.”
“Is Dr. Windu here?”
“No, she is away on a call in the senate offices. Is something wrong?”
“I have a friend in the waiting room. He’s injured, but …” Obi-Wan let out a deep sigh. “The case is going to require some … discretion.”
“Okay, I can handle it.”
Quickly stopping to pass off her current patient to another doctor, Bant followed Obi-Wan back out to the waiting room. “Anakin?” she whispered in question as she caught sight of him. “What’s he doing here on Coruscant?”
“A long story I will fill you in on later when there are less ‘ears’ around.”
She nodded, greeting Qui-Gon before they hurried Anakin into one of the nearest, empty rooms. He sat down on the examination table. Bant began to inspect the wound on his thigh through the charred slit in his pants.
“What happened? I have never seen a wound like this.” At Obi-Wan’s silent shrug, she lowered her voice slightly. “Just tell me.”
“Lightsaber,” Obi-Wan whispered into her ear.
“Are you sure? I’ve treated those kinds of burns before.”
Obi-Wan did recall that one of her first experiences treating a lightsaber burn had been him, after a sparing match with Master Yoda. How could he forget that?
“Yes, those were all on the lowest settings. This one was on full power.”
“Sith?” she mouthed, eyes wide as she looked to the occupants of the room. Both Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan nodded in return.
“Well, it’s not too deep,” she continued in a normal tone of voice. “I can fix him up fairly easily without a stay in a tank..”
“Thank you,” Qui-Gon offered with an appreciative smile.
“Take your pants off, Anakin,” Bant ordered as she gathered the supplies she would need from a nearby storage closet.
“What?!” the young man replied, blushing furiously.
“I can’t work through the material … relax, it’s nothing I haven’t seen before … it’s probably worse on me than on you … human males are really quite ugly.” She offered Obi-Wan a slight wink. “You two go find Siri. I’ll bring this one along when I’m done.”
“Don’t leave me alone,” Anakin whimpered.
“It’s just Bant,” Obi-Wan said, grinning as he turned to leave. He was stopped short of the door by the physician’s voice again.
“By the way, since I have you here ‘Senator Kenobi’, I need to schedule you for your annual physical. Remember, it’s required of all senators.”
“My office will be in touch this week.”
“That’s what you said three weeks ago,” he heard her mumble as he slipped out the door.
***
Kenobi’s chief of security, the man named Muln, had left the detention center. It was certain that he would be back later to “ask a few questions” but for now Hirani was alone. Xanatos took a moment to watch the beautiful blue-skinned Twi’lek. She was sitting on a bench in the holding cell, legs pulled to her chest as she rested her cheek against her knees. No doubt, she was considering her options and dismal future. Attacking a senator’s family, kidnapping, none would be taken lightly by the authorities. He had been foolish in placing her against Jedi. Though a capable fighter, he knew from personal experience that her mind was quite responsive to the Force’s influence. He stepped to the force field, smiling. The guards in surveillance were just now wondering what was happening with their monitoring system; the ones at the door would never remember seeing him. He had a little time.
Hirani stood up, cautiously observing him. When he pulled back the hood of his cloak, she hurried to the perimeter of the cell. Xanatos shut off the forcefield. Hirani was immediately in his arms, whispering soft terms of endearment in her native language. The relief he could feel washing over her would be short-lived. The young woman truly had no idea who was holding her.
“Let’s go,” she said eagerly.
“I’m afraid we cannot,” he said as she looked up at him in confusion. “I am here simply to tie up a loose end.”
Immediately, she understood his meaning. “I … I would never betray you. I would never say anything,” she stammered, caressing his face, rubbing her fingers across his lips. “You know that.”
“I know, Love. It is a pity you had to screw up,” he spat out.
Hirani pulled out of his arms and took a couple of steps backwards.
“Your devotion is strong,” the Sith said. “But your mind is too weak to stand up against the one who will interrogate you. You would tell all you know without even being aware you were doing so.”
“No.” She backed to the corner of the cell, looking desperately up to where she knew there were security holocams.
“They can’t see anything,” Xanatos said as he stalked toward her. “I made sure of that.”
The Twi’lek’s dark eyes were wide with panic when he finally reached her. The fear bleeding into the Force was exhilarating. He savored each drop of it, feeling his power grow. “Shhh,” he whispered softly in hypnotic tones. His gloved fingers stroked her face. Dark tendrils she could not see surrounded her, penetrating and filling her mind. There was no where she could go to escape the Force. She couldn’t move, couldn’t scream – he stole her ability to do that. “Good,” he murmured, holding the now slack figure against his body. She looked up with glassy eyes, offering no resistance as he pushed her down to sit on the bench. Squatting down beside her, Xanatos pulled a shiv from his boot and wrapped the Twi’lek’s slender fingers around it tightly. She shuddered slightly as he pressed the tip against her chest, momentarily fighting his influence. He pressed his will, easily overpowering her. A pained gasp escaped her mouth as he pressed the blade into her flesh. Blood began to flow freely from the wound. Xanatos stood, making sure he wouldn’t track any blood as he stepped away. Hirani toppled forward, fingers still clutched around the shiv. Xanatos stepped from the cell, engaging the forcefield behind him. The Jedi would know he had been there, of course, but to the rest of Coruscant security, it would look like the young Twi’lek, distressed at her prospects, had taken her own life.
***
“You need to rest, now.”
Obi-Wan was stretched out on the sleep couch next to where Siri was snuggled down under the blankets. The pain-killers were lulling his wife to sleep despite the fact she was fighting them with every ounce of strength she had left. Obi-Wan wasn’t sure she would ever forgive Bant for drugging her.
“I want to be in on the meeting …” Siri protested sleepily.
“You have a long trip tomorrow,” he said, pushing a few stray strands of hair out of her face.
“Not going,” she slurred.
“You promised,” Obi-Wan pleaded. “How can I do what I need to when I am worried for your and Bren’an’s safety?”
“I’m a Jedi.”
“Yes, and you are also a wife and mother. It about killed me today to not be able to come to you right away when I knew you were in trouble.” Leaning in, he pressed his lips against his wife’s, nearly begging her with his eyes as he pulled away. “Please.”
She nodded, finally giving in to the sleep that beckoned her. Placing one last kiss on her forehead, he slipped from their room and into the corridor. He made his way upstairs to where Anakin had set up holoemitters for a group conference with Yoda. While he waited for everyone to arrive, Obi-Wan reviewed his messages. There were numerous messages expressing concern. Bail and Adi had both contacted him to offer their relief that Siri and Bren’an were safe, both wanting to schedule conferences, of course. Once again, he would have to hold them to the strategy of not getting directly involved. It was now apparent that her association with him had made Padme a target for the Sith, and the Jedi didn’t need any more of their allies in the line of fire.
Qui-Gon arrived and sat down next to Obi-Wan. “Bren’an is almost asleep. Corrar is staying just a bit longer.”
Mace and Byram arrived with Padme just a few moments later. Abandoning all pretense, Anakin slid his arm around the love of his life and drew her close, earning a raised eyebrow from Mace. When Corrar finally arrived, Qui-Gon initiated the transmission. Yoda looked around the room with sleepy eyes. “A difficult day you have had, though I believe there is more than the Holonet tells me.”
“As I said briefly in the message I left you, the attacks were carried out by Xanatos Marojni. Siri fought him, until Corrar, Anakin, and I arrived,” Qui-Gon said. “He fled and Anakin pursued.”
“Explain you will, Padawan. Ran ahead, engaged an enemy you knew little about. Such reckless behavior I certainly did not teach you,” the aged Jedi said, turning an accusing stare to Qui-Gon, then Obi-Wan. “Talk more about this will, later.”
“My destiny is to destroy the Sith. I thought I would start with that one,” Anakin stated unapologetically.
“Your destiny is to bring balance, Anakin,” Qui-Gon said gently. “We only assume, as Master K’yal stated in his holocron, that balance equals destroying the Sith.”
“I don’t understand, Master,” Anakin expressed vehemently. “We know Xanatos is a Sith. He continues to threaten us and the Republic. Why do we not just act?”
“There is more at work here than the simple act of Sith versus Jedi, and we still do not know who Xanatos’ master is,” Mace said. “Believe me, that would simplify matters much.”
“It just seems that everyone is afraid of doing something,” Anakin snapped.
“Afraid … you say, Padawan.” Yoda’s ears fell back, and his eyes widened. “Afraid those who have come to Coruscant to face the Darkness are not. Those who left homes on Dantooine and Aksu to go to our allies on Naboo, Corellia, Alderaan and stand ready to defend – afraid they are not. The Jedi spies we have sent to Telos and Serenno to watch over Xanatos and Count Dooku – afraid they are not. Given their lives many of them have.”
“I am sorry, Master,” Anakin said, bowing his head.
Turning his attention away from his padawan, seemingly unfazed by the young man’s outburst, Yoda looked over to the remaining Jedi. “Use caution we must. The Sith’s plans are in motion.”
“I am bringing Siri and Bren’an to Dantooine. We will leave tomorrow morning,” Corrar announced.
“Auren and Kara will be going with you,” Byram said.
“What of your family, Mace?” Yoda asked.
“They are staying. Yong and Tao are knights. I have left the choice to them. And … Jun never listens to me anyhow,” Mace said.
“I would personally love to see the Sith try something in your home with two Jedi masters and two knights,” Garen chimed in.
“I think Pad … Senator Amidala should go to Dantooine as well,” Anakin added.
“What is this? Isn’t it a bit archaic to send the women into hiding?” Padme asked, giving Anakin a rough shove. “I cannot fight this measure in the Senate while hiding. I’m not going anywhere. I have already debated this with the Chancellor, and my Queen. The Jedi aren’t going to change my mind.”
“We need to augment your security, then,” Obi-Wan said. Having seen her in action on the Senate floor, he knew better than to argue with Senator Amidala of Naboo when the young woman had her mind made up.
“Continue to protect you my padawan will,” Yoda added, nodding toward Anakin. “To Qui-Gon you will look for guidance if contact me you cannot, Padawan.”
“Is Anakin’s background information established?” Garen asked. “I have no doubt the Sith will begin to investigate him.”
“It’s as solid as I can make it,” Corrar said.
The meeting was interrupted as Garen’s comlink chimed. “Muln,” he answered. His face fell as he listened. “Thank you,” he finally said before looking at the waiting group. “The Twi’lek who tried to take Bren’an is dead. Apparently, she took her own life.”
“Do you believe that?” Corrar asked.
“I searched her myself. She took no weapons into that cell with her,” Garen replied. “I would have to say that she knew too much.”
***
In the unsavory area of Coruscant known as ‘The Works’, Xanatos slowly made his way into the chambers where he had trained for years in the Dark side. Coming upon the cloaked form of Darth Sidious, he immediately dropped to his knee and waited for his master to speak. He highly doubted the Sith lord was going to be pleased with him.
“You failed me, Acutus,” his master chided immediately.
“I did not fail ...”
The Sith lord turned and delivered a sharp slap across his apprentice’s face. “You were not to engage or reveal your involvement,” Sidious accused before turning his back on the younger Sith. “You failed.”
“I struck fear into the hearts of the Jedi, which was the plan,” the Sith apprentice replied. He waited for further rebuke, but it did not come. His master had been more forgiving of late, ever since Xanatos’ association with Dooku had begun. He didn’t care for the count personally, but the old man was a good pawn against his master.
“I trust you have disposed of your random element,” Sidious posed.
“Of course, Master,” Xanatos replied humbly. “You have trained me well.” Silence stretched between them for a moment. “Should I make a second attempt on Senator …”
“They have shored up her security, and have no doubt added Jedi to her detail. They are also sending families away. The attacks served their purpose. This week, I will meet with Senator Kenobi, and I assure you, what I reveal will become every bit as devastating to their cause as an assassination.” Sidious turned, folding his hands in front of him. “I want you to go to Geonosis and to meet with Count Dooku so that you can personally assure me that he is on schedule.”
“Yes, my Master.”

So we are entering the AOTC era of this Epic.
So what exactly was the purpose of the attacks? It sounds like Sideous wanted the families to be separated. I wonder how this will deviate from the ext set of events.

"...what I reveal will become every bit as devastating to their cause as an assassination."
Now that
is
ominous. I like Yoda's rebuke to Anakin and the way you used it to highlight the situation that the Jedi are now in. I also like how Anakin and Padme are shaping up. They may not be getting all that much screen time, but they are developing well.

Loved all the pieces that were fitting into place, both for the Sith and the Jedi. I thought Padme's reply to the Jedi trying to protect her was right on.
I also loved that Bant still can't get Obi-Wan into the healers. LOL.
Good job. Looking forward to more.

Poor Anakin! Maybe his embarrassment will teach him a small lesson about rushing off alone.
It definitely sounds like Sidious is up to something and that is not good.
Well done!
