Palpatine sat behind his desk, lips pursed together and fingers steepled as he contemplated his next step. So much careful and patient planning had gone into this moment; events had been set in motion years ago were coming to fruition. He could hardly believe the moment was at hand. Acutus was on Geonosis doing his part; soon, the entire galaxy would be changed forever.
Palpatine is most certainly a very evil individual, but I kind of have to admire his patience. He is willing to wait several years in many cases to see the events he has put in motion come to pass. He doesn't seem to act irrationally or impulsively, and I think that is something that makes him even more dangerous.
Well done!

I feel sorry for Kitab his good name will forever be besmirched.
I think it is cool that Dooku bows to Xanatos. Xan a more fun character in my oppinion, Dooku is too stuffy.

Old Palps has been laying the ground work for sometime. Now he's going to try to discredit Obi-Wan. Snake. It's fun to see Dooku so uncertain and out of his element. Bet it burns to have to grovel to someone so much younger.

Chapter 67
Shak let out a weary chuckle. “Olin, the Yopurgan system is wealthy among its fellow Mid Rim planets and can afford a well-equipped militia. Many of us are not so fortunate, and it is even worse for most of the Outer Rim worlds. If attacked, we have little hope of defending ourselves.”
“What do you and these others you know propose?” Kitab prodded.
“An army of the Republic,” Shak said, delivering his fellow senator a pointed stare with deep, smoke-colored eyes. “Equal protection for all worlds.”
To be honest, I have to say I agree with some parts of what's put forth here, especially Shak's final sentence. The idea that all of the member worlds should be protected equally, regardless of their wealth or so-called importance, is a just one in principle. of course, given what Palpatine turned this standing army into... well, I can't help but recall some of the American Founding Father's thoughts on the danger of standing armies (even though they did not play out in our world). A most excellent chapter indeed, and I cannot wait for the next part.

Great update, I agree that the army is a good idea just not for the purpose Palpatine intends.

If I were Xanatos, I don't think I'd push Dooku too far. If he is as powerful as he is in canon, even a little teaching could be a dangerous thing.
Nice post!

The flashback with Kitab was well done. I still wonder how they got him to sign onto this... I guess Obi will find it.

Poor Obi-Wan: he'll soon find out that Kitab wasn't who he thought he was in some areas of the political arena. I hope it doesn't change the fact that Kenobi thought him to be a good friend and a good man in general.
Obi needs to keep himself on high alert regarding Palpatine's questions concerning Siri and Bren'an. I hope the constant remarks Palps made set off a warning in the Jedi's mind.
Can't wait for more!

Shak made such a good case for the reason of needing a Repubilc Army I almost thinking he was for real.
Love how extremely well you write manipulative Palpatine. So easy to hate him.

Here I wsa thinking that there wouldn't be a Geonosis so it wouldn't play out the same way. Oh Kitara, you are so naive! Obi Wan was bound to walk in to that trap one way or another!

Another great update. This passage stood out for me, a perfect and lyrical description of Obi-Wan in the Force.
He sensed Kenobi arrive. Yes, the young Jedi’s power was near perfectly shielded in the Force, except that the darkness fled from him with each step he took. Palpatine waited. Soon, Kenobi was in his doorway.

Oh, this is not good. Not good at all. Scandal will be the least of what the Jedi have to worry about...
Wonderful writing!

Importaint flashback! Palpatine is far to slippery. I hope he himself slips on something soon... Like maybe the soap in the shower.
Wonderful update!
