His words sounded odd in his childish, innocent voice.
“Death is the only punishment possible, my lord.” He met his father’s eyes expectantly.
Eek. Look what Obi-Wan has done to Ani!
He reminds me of a white oleander - so loving and beautiful on the outside, but oh so poisonous.

I confess, I'm having fun with Sithly Obi-Wan!
Darth_Marrs
Cool and calm...and deadly.
Lincoln_6_Echo
I think Sithly Obi-Wan would view the death as necessary, not something to be mourned, but not something to be unneccarily enjoyable either.

Glad you liked it. I'm having fun with it.

Thanks! I hope the next chapter will satisfy, even though not a lot happens! It's setting the stage for the future.

Darth Oleander...I like it!
I have two more posts written and ready to go! So hopefully the next update won't take so long!
Chapter 4: The Foundation of the Future
Anakin was uncharacteristically quiet at their morning meal, and Obi-Wan watched him carefully. He knew his son well enough to know that the boy would open up when he was ready, and not a moment before then. Anakin’s stubbornness had not abated one bit as he grew older, but Obi-Wan would not have changed that about his son even if he could. The boy’s determination, channeled and guided, would be just another formidable weapon in Anakin’s already overflowing arsenal.
“Is your food poorly prepared?” Obi-Wan asked, though he knew that the chef had prepared yet another masterpiece. Of course, she should, given her exorbitant salary, he mused. She ruled his kitchens as a dictator and had reduced more than one servant to tears. Often, he had contemplated sampling her more…
personal
charms, but in the end his appreciation of her culinary skills was greater than the promise of what he might find in her arms.
“What?” Anakin looked up, obviously distracted. “Oh…” He frowned at the food on his plate. “No, everything’s fine,” he answered with a shrug.
Obi-Wan hesitated for a moment, but he sensed no defensiveness in his son’s attitude and so he forged ahead. “Is there something you wanted to talk about?”
Swift embarrassment flashed across Anakin’s face and his strong, white teeth bit into his lower lip. “Do you ever get lonely, Father?”
Surprise stilled Obi-Wan’s tongue as he stared at his son in bemusement. “Lonely?” Carefully, Obi-Wan put down his cup of caf and leaned forward on his elbows to meet Anakin’s gaze. “What do you mean?”
“Well…most of those with whom you do business, those who visit us here on Telos, they bring their mates, wives, consorts, or concubines, or even the plaything of the hour, but you…” Anakin glanced at his father and then back down at his plate. “But you have no one.”
“I have you,” Obi-Wan pointed out.
“That’s not the same and you know it,” Anakin retorted, now meeting his father’s gaze boldly.
“Why would I want a mate?”
“For all the usual reasons,” Anakin replied. “I’m not a child, Father. I know why men keep concubines.” He grinned at his father. “And I must say I’ve enjoyed being in their company at times. They are quite…
interesting
.”
“You are years away from such things,” Obi-Wan warned sternly.
Anakin nodded immediately. “Of course, Father, I know.” He shook his head. “But I’m not blind either.” He gave his father an unrepentant smirk. “I’m starting to notice these things.” He closed his eyes and gave a soft smack of his lips. “I’m starting to notice a lot of things,” Anakin added in a strangely adult voice. Then he laughed and was once more just a boy.
“Yes, well…” For the first time in many years, Obi-Wan felt embarrassed. It was not a comfortable sensation.
Trust Anakin to put me here,
he thought dryly.
“I just wondered why you didn’t have someone,” Anakin pressed on. “Not even like some of the others do, just a pretty face to take to all those parties you have to go to.”
“I hardly think this is a suitable conversation, Anakin,” Obi-Wan replied with a frown. It was odd, he thought, that he could speak calmly of killing a man with his son, but to hear him talk of passion and what happened between two beings made him strangely uncomfortable. Anakin had a way of pushing at things that evoked a strong response, he mused. It was just another manifestation of his gifts, the ability to discover his opponent’s every weakness. Obi-Wan felt himself struggling between pride and embarrassment.
“Father…” Anakin said impatiently. “It won’t be that long before those who want to reach
you
will start throwing their daughters at my feet, hoping I’ll marry one of them and give them the riches of Telos.” He rolled his eyes. “As if I didn’t see that trap from a million lightyears away.”
“By the stars, you’ve grown up,” Obi-Wan breathed in amazement. “When did that happen?”
“It’s not a question of being grown up, Father,” Anakin said. “Though I would like to point out that I’m fourteen now,” he added with a pointed look. “But you’ve trained me to observe, to calculate all the different directions a situation might take, to look for the motives of others, to never trust anyone – except you – completely.” He shrugged. “I’ve already seen the ambitious mothers taking a look at me and wondering when they might put their daughters in my path to see if I might be their ticket to wealth and power.” He snorted. “I can almost see them tallying up my wealth and coming up with a strategy to put their daughters in my view.”
“You are too young,” Obi-Wan repeated. He frowned and glanced down at his plate. The boy
was
too young. They were years away from having to worry about finding a suitable mate for the boy, not that he had not considered the future.
“Today I am,” Anakin agreed. “But that will not always be the case. Anyway, that’s not what I wanted to ask you.” He glanced up at his father. “Why are
you
alone?”
“Do you really want to ask about my needs for…companionship?” Obi-Wan asked doubtfully.
Anakin nodded. “Is the reason you’re alone because of…
me
?”
There it was – the root of his son’s fear and suddenly the conversation made much more sense to Obi-Wan.
“Anakin you must never think that,” Obi-Wan said swiftly, reaching out to take Anakin’s hand. “You are my son, my apprentice, my heir. You are the most important thing in my life.” He raised the boy’s chin so he could meet those troubled blue eyes. “If I wanted a female in my life, I would choose one to put there. But that is not what I want.”
Anakin stared into his eyes for a moment, searching for the truth. At last, he gave a jerky nod of his head and pulled away.
Obi-Wan sighed, sensing that the matter had not been put to rest to Anakin’s complete satisfaction. “There was once a woman in my life,” he said softly. “You might not remember her, or not very well, but…” He sighed and tapped his fingers on the table.
“Sarla…” Anakin whispered. “That’s all I remember,” he continued. “Her name, nothing else, just that.”
“Yes, Sarla,” Obi-Wan confirmed, though just to say her name again made something inside him ache. It was a vague pain, muffled and distant, but there nonetheless. How odd to think of her after all these years. “She’s dead. My Master killed her to teach me a lesson.”
“And what was the lesson?” Anakin asked without shock. Death was a powerful motivator, especially the death of someone you loved. He had seen that demonstrated more than once, and knew that even the
threat
of death could aid in the negotiation of the most difficult terms.
“That to love is a weakness.”
“But you love
me
.” There was no doubt in his son’s voice and Obi-Wan was once more amazed at how much he cared about Anakin, and how much the boy loved him in return.
Obi-Wan looked up and met Anakin’s eyes. “We are father and son, master and apprentice,” he said softly. “When I escaped with you, I decided that I would change what it meant to be a Sith, and you were the reason.”
“I was?”
“I loved you, Anakin,” Obi-Wan explained quietly. “I finally realized that love could be a strength as well as a weakness, as long as I was careful.”
“Careful?”
“I allow myself to love only you, Anakin, as my son, as the future of the Sith,” Obi-Wan said. “To love outside that bond is dangerous…and it can be painful.”
Anakin digested all of this silently. Finally, he asked quietly, “And what about me?”
“What do you mean?”
“I am your heir, your apprentice,” Anakin replied. “But who will be
my
heir, my apprentice…my child?”
“When the time is right, the Force shall direct you to the one who is meant to be the mother of your children, the foundation of a future Sith Order,” Obi-Wan replied.
“A wife?”
Obi-Wan shrugged. “Not necessarily, though it might prove useful to give her some legal status.” He had considered this matter for many years now, even with Anakin’s tender age.
“You’ll choose her?” Anakin asked curiously.
“The
Force
shall choose her,” Obi-Wan corrected. “She will have the necessary qualities to provide you with a strong child, one who can continue the Sith tradition.”
“She will be a Force sensitive?”
“I don’t know,” Obi-Wan answered with a slight smile. “The Force has been silent on this matter thus far.”
“What if she’s ugly?” Anakin asked with a flash of humor.
“Then you shall do your duty by her and father an heir on her,” Obi-Wan replied solemnly. “And to amuse yourself, you will keep a concubine who is more suited to your own personal taste.”
Anakin’s smile faded. “You’re serious… I’ll have to father a child on a woman I might not even like?”
“You probably won’t be as lucky as I was,” Obi-Wan explained with a slight, teasing smile. “You won’t find a child of prophecy, and besides, it’s your
bloodline
that must go on. That’s essential to your future, to
our
future.” He reached out and squeezed Anakin’s shoulder. “You’re getting older, you were right about that. It’s time you realize how important – and dangerous – the next years could be…to you, to me…to the Sith.”
Anakin swallowed hard. “I will do my duty, Father.”
“Even if she’s ugly?” Obi-Wan asked with a grin.
Anakin shuddered. “Even then, but I must say I saw the prettiest dancing girl…she had big green eyes and-”
“You don’t get a menu from which to choose, son.”
“Just thought I’d try,” Anakin replied with a grin.

“What if she’s ugly?” Anakin asked with a flash of humor.
Anakin, Anakin, you'll eat these words someday.
Assuming it's still Padme. Although I wouldn't put it past
this
Anakin to snatch Luke & Leia, and then ditch Padme on Mustafar.
Lovely banter, and the serious undertones fit in so well. These two are quite the pair!

Hmmm... I wonder if it will still be Padme that Anakin falls in love with? Or what if she doesn't love him back? Or... eh, oh well, I'll just wait and see. But you know, I am quite intrigued by this "Sarla" person. Who was she? I'm vaguely surprised Siri wasn't in there somewhere. Or maybe Sarla was Siri or... okay, I'll just wait.
Great update!

It's fun writing them as Sith.
Quigonjecca
Sarla was a woman involved with Obi-Wan, until things took a nasty turn.
Gkilkenny
He's sort of cute as a little Sithling, I think.
Ascal_Elessar
Even as a Sith, Obi-Wan doesn't let his emotions get the best of him!
Chapter 5: We are One
Obi-Wan stood silently in the shadows, watching as Anakin analyzed the situation. After a long moment, the teenager looked over his shoulder. “He’s a Jedi,” he whispered.
Nodding, Obi-Wan moved out of the shadows and into the small pool of pale light that surrounded his son. “Very good, my boy,” Obi-Wan murmured, putting a hand on Anakin’s shoulder. “Tell me how you knew he was Jedi and not just some ignorant Force-sensitive?”
Anakin’s gaze flickered back to the figure that lingered in the office below them. “Well, not many Force sensitives get past the Jedi,” he replied with an ugly smirk.
“That’s not logic, that’s laziness,” Obi-Wan chided gently. His gaze, too, drifted toward the lone figure. “Give me more, give me details. Tell me how you
know
he’s a Jedi and not something else.”
Frowning, Anakin was quiet for a moment, obviously weighing his answer carefully. “The Force that surrounds him…it’s…” He stopped. “It’s different than what I feel around you, Father.” Anakin paused. “It feels different than what
I
touch when I reach for the Force.”
“Good, that’s better, now at least you’re thinking…analyzing,” Obi-Wan praised. “More, Anakin. I know you can do this. You sensed he was not a simple merchant as he is supposed to appear. But what
told
you so?”
Anakin pressed against the transparisteel observation window, his hands splayed and his forehead leaning against the clear panel. “I can sense the Force around him, Father. But that’s not so unusual,” he added, almost to himself. “I’m surprised at how many beings in this galaxy have some sort of small shine of the Force inside of them and yet they don’t have the slightest clue it’s there.” Disdain for those ignorant creatures filled Anakin’s voice. “But this one…” Anakin suddenly turned to his father with a wide grin. “This one stinks of the Light, Father. That’s the difference!”
Obi-Wan laughed softly and came up to stand beside Anakin, clapping him soundly on the back. “Excellent, my boy! You have yet again proven that you are a worthy heir to what I have built for you.”
The two of them stared down at the naïve Jedi, who had no idea that he had been marked as a Jedi by the two beings in the galaxy who had the most reason to hate the Order. Obi-Wan tested Anakin’s shields subtly, giving a small smile when he found them up and locked tight. Anakin was no youngling to be constantly reminded of how to protect himself, but it was still comforting to see that his teachings had been properly absorbed. Anakin was an apprentice of which any Master could be proud.
“Now, Anakin,” Obi-Wan said. “What should we be asking ourselves now that we know he’s a Jedi?”
Anakin hesitated for a moment, speaking only when his Father gave him a nod of encouragement. “We should be asking ourselves
why
he is here.”
Obi-Wan nodded, well pleased at the boy’s answer. “Very good,” he said. “You’ve gone straight to the heart of the matter.”
“Thank you.” A proud smile lit up the boy’s face.
“While we are asking ourselves why the Jedi is here, why don’t you tell me some of the most likely explanations for his presence here among us?”
“He could know we’re Sith,” Anakin offered.
Obi-Wan gave a snort and rolled his eyes. “You think they would send a single Jedi Knight against a pair of Sith?” he asked the young man dubiously. He pointed toward the Jedi, who was speaking with one of Obi-Wan’s men. “No, they can’t have guessed what we are, my boy.”
Anakin’s grin said that he had already deduced that for himself. “He’s not even a particularly gifted Knight,” the boy remarked with a hint of disgust.
“He’s good enough,” Obi-Wan replied dryly. “Never underestimate the Jedi, Anakin. They might serve the weak face of the Force, and they might be nothing more than glorified slaves to It, but they are powerful.” He pointed to the Jedi. “That one man could take down a dozen of our best guards and hardly break a sweat. That’s power, my boy. Make no mistake.”
“They are our enemy,” Anakin said, sounding slightly confused.
“Our enemy yes,” Obi-Wan replied. “But we must still respect the power they weild, no matter that they haven’t yet discovered the
true
power that could be theirs if they would but grasp it.”
Anakin digested this with a thoughtful nod. “What are we going to do about him, Father?”
“What do you think we should do?” Anakin was now fifteen, and Obi-Wan had decided that it was time for the boy’s training to progress even further. He could not afford to coddle the boy. The Jedi would not let them remain in peace forever. When the time for confrontation came,
both
of them had to be ready. If Obi-Wan died, Anakin must be ready to assume the mantle of leadership. He must be a
Sith
.
“We could let him go,” Anakin replied thoughtfully. “He doesn’t know who we are,
what
we are.” He shook his head. “He’s come here looking for pirates, I’d wager.” He paused. “He has no idea he’s stumbled upon his kind’s greatest enemy.”
“Precisely,” Obi-Wan said. Then he nudged Anakin. “It’s good to know that you finally got around to answering my question.”
Anakin’s lips twitched, but he kept his gaze on the Jedi. “Or we could be very cautious,” Anakin said. “And make sure that there is no path that will lead the Jedi to our door.”
“We would accomplish this how?” Obi-Wan asked.
“We could kill him.”
“Here?”
Anakin paused for a moment, his tongue licking across his lips as it did when he was concentrating fully. “No,” he answered at last. “That would be too risky…”
“Because?” Obi-Wan’s tone was leading and patient. He was letting the boy work out the reasons on his own.
“Because the Jedi probably know exactly where he is,” Anakin replied. “If he dies here, then the Jedi will send another in his place to discover the fate of the first.” He laughed softly. “We could keep killing them off, one by one, but it would get rather obvious.”
“That’s true,” Obi-Wan replied with a wink. “So…our plan of action should be?”
“We should make sure that he doesn’t discover anything suspicious and let him go on his way unharmed,” Anakin replied thoughtfully.
“And once he’s gone from here?”
Anakin grinned widely and Obi-Wan was startled but pleased to see a tiny yellow flame flicker to life in the boy’s eyes. “We follow him and kill him, after we can be sure he’s transmitted a message to the Temple that properly clears us of any wrong-doing.” He shrugged. “Some sort of terrible accident, a ship that blows up or something like that.”
“And what about others on board that ship who might die with our ill-fated Jedi?”
Anakin met his father’s gaze. “Collateral damage, unfortunate but necessary, not a great loss in the long run.”
Obi-Wan’s hand came up to stroke his beard. Anakin was fast becoming a formidable weapon to use against the Jedi. His pride welled up within him. “That’s an excellent plan, my son.”
Anakin flashed a smile at the compliment and turned to watch the Jedi. “I would like to…” His words trailed off, but then he squared his shoulders and turned to Obi-Wan. “I’d like to have this one, Father. For myself, I mean.”
“Are you asking what I think you’re asking?”
“I’ve never had my own kill, Father,” Anakin reminded him. “I’ve watched yes, but that’s hardly the same thing, is it?”
“No, it’s not the same at all,” Obi-Wan replied. He looked at the Jedi. “If I say yes, then you must be prepared to face the risks that killing a Jedi will entail.”
“I understand,” Anakin assured him.
“If you are not as strong as you think you are, if you let your concentration slip for only a second, it could spell disaster.” His eyes met Anakin’s. “Do you understand what I’m saying, Anakin?”
“Yes, Father, I understand.”
Obi-Wan studied his son carefully, the need to protect his heir, the hope of the Sith, battling with the need to test his strength. He could not weaken the boy by trying to insulate him from the risks that he must eventually face. Better now, while he himself was still at the peak of his own powers in case the worst happened. “You are ready to accept the consequences of your test, whether it be success or failure?” He had to be sure that his son understood the risks.
Anakin nodded and then knelt before Obi-Wan. All traces of the son were gone, replaced by the humble and obedient apprentice. He looked up at his Master. “If I fail, I will die, my Master.” He shrugged. “It is as the Force wills it to be – as
I
will it to be.”
“For you are one with the Force.”
“For we are one,” Anakin said grimly.

Ahhh! Such a beautiful chapter! I love the way Sith Obi-Wan is training Anakin. He is stern, but gives praises and shows affection. He desires to protect, but he knows his son needs to be tried in order to progress. A real good teacher-- I wonder if Canon Jedi Obi-Wan used the same methods with Anakin...
I love this AU and I look forward to reading more. I bet these two would create a much better empire than Palpatine's. They would rule with iron fist, yes, but I believe they would be fairer than Palpy.

I'm sorry, but could you please refresh my memory? What is Telos and how could the Sith run a shipping empire without the Jedi/Republic knowing? Who founded this empire (was it Qui Gon)? Did they pretend to be something else other than Sith? I tried to skim through your previous story to find out, but it was 18 pages long and I'm not that patient, I'm afraid...
Thank you so much beforehand for your answers.

Amazing. It's so odd to see the Sith from this perspective-- a loving father and son. And the way they speak 'May I kill thsi one for myself?" as if it's every day stuff. Rather chilling, actually.
I loved this chapter. Great update!

You know, this 15-year-old Anakin is more creepy than Vader.
Better now, while he himself was still at the peak of his own powers in case the worst happened.
This gives me the chills. If Anakin failed or showed hesitation, would Obi-Wan "deal" with him? (*cough* Kill him?! eek)

I am converted.
I cannot help but like this Obi-Wan and Anakin. I realise that Anakin
could have been so much better in canon if he had been trained by the sith.
OMG what am I saying.
Yet I wonder if he may have been different knowing that kind of love from an early age, instead of being told he was the chosen one.
What a weight to carry.
He does not seem so desperate for affection, as he did with his mother and Padme.
He is his fathers son
What trouble will he get into trying to kill a Jedi
will Obi-Wan have to rescue him
thanks for the PM

RE: At My Father's Side - An AU - Dark Obi-Wan - Updated 6/16
I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I love Sith Obi-Wan in this. He's bad, but he's kind of, um, noblely bad.
I laughed at this from the previous chapter:
Anakin shuddered. “Even then, but I must say I saw the prettiest dancing girl…she had big green eyes and-”
“You don’t get a menu from which to choose, son.”
“Just thought I’d try,” Anakin replied with a grin.
And I agree with other readers, Obi-Wan is such a good (bad) teacher in this last post.
Can't wait to read more. Thanks for sharing such a unique story.
