Timeframe: After TPM
Characters: Padmé, Eirtaé, Sabé, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Anakin Skywalker
Genre: Short Story
Summary: Padmé and Anakin reflect on their crushes.
Notes: My evil former padawan Jaina_Solo_15 challenged me to write this story, so it’s dedicated to her. Jaina was inspried by my fic and she wrote her own story: Duty that is sort of a sequel to this one. Go check it out. 
“Ouch!” Padmé cried out.
“Sorry Milady,” Eirtaé apologized.
“You were day dreaming about that Jedi again, weren’t you?” Sabé questioned.
Padmé shot her a pointed glance.
“Sorry Milady, I should not speak so informally,” Sabé apologized.
“You are forgiven,” Padmé remarked, quite thankful that her face was covered in white makeup that concealed her blush. “Ladies, I think I will retire for the day. You are dismissed.”
“Yes Milady,” they responded.
“Your highness, I will escort you to your chambers.” Padmé nodded, allowing Sabé to walk with her.
“Was I right?” Sabé asked.
“Yes,” Padmé replied as she rolled her eyes.
“Padmé, you know you are allowed to be attracted to someone, even though you are the queen. You are only fourteen years old after all.”
“Yes, but most fourteen year olds are not elected queen of an entire planet. I do not have time to have an infatuation with a Jedi Knight,” Padmé replied harshly.
“But most Jedi Knights are not as attractive as he was,” Sabé replied smoothly.
“No matter how attractive he was or was not,” Padmé paused to throw a glance at her friend, “I do not have time to dwell on hopeless crushes.”
“With the battle over, you can allow yourself to have a few day dreams. It will help you stay in touch with your human side,” Sabé replied in a hushed voice.
Dealing with politicians, especially ones much older than herself, threatened to undo Padmé’s morals and values daily. Sabé typically served as Padmé’s moral compass, guiding her along the right path and pointing her back to it when she strayed.
“Am I losing my humanity?” Padmé asked.
“No, but I worry that you will lose yourself in politics. Love, even infatuation, are all normal human emotions. You do still want to be a human, correct?” Sabé asked as a wicked grin spread across her face.
“Not if it means that I cannot stop thinking about him!” Padmé wailed.
“There there. The crush will eventually fade, and you will fall in love with some handsome, rich, young man that will make you happy forever,” Sabé informed her.
“Handsome?”
“Of course. Your people would accept nothing less for their beloved Queen Amidala,” Sabé teased.
“I think I shall let you be queen tomorrow while I dream about the Jedi.”
“Yes Milady.”
The girls giggled and spent the rest of the day discussing the handsome Jedi Knight that saved their lives, the lives of their people, and their planet from the evil Trade Federation.

Sabe is wise beyond her years.

Very bittersweet.
“I think I shall let you be queen tomorrow while I dream about the Jedi.”
And there's my favorite line of this part! It's nice to see Padme being a teenage girl for a day.

This was too funny! I haven't read many ff from this point of view with Padmé and her handmaidens from around TPM timeframe...(still a newb in The Saga ). I loved all the reactions Sabé and Padmé had to their own remarks. Very cute!

She’s also a fourteen year old girl, or at least she’s close in age, so she knows what she’s talking about!

Only bittersweet because we know how it will end. But at that point it was just sweet.

“Sorry Master, it won’t happen again,” Anakin replied.
“Padawan, perhaps we should have a chat,” Obi-Wan remarked in a father-like tone, the one that Qui-Gon used with him many a time.
“Yes Master.”
Obi-Wan indicated a bench for his padawan to sit on with him.
“Padawan, I realize that you may have feelings for young Queen Amidala.”
“What makes you say that, Master?” Anakin asked, blushing slightly at his master’s words.
“Well, you’ve been distracted ever since we ran across those holos from the rescue mission on Naboo. You have only been with the Jedi for a short while, do you have any questions about our ways?”
“Well Master, I know that the Jedi aren’t supposed to have attachments. Does that mean we can’t love?” Anakin asked, a sad look drifting into his eyes.
“Yes padawan, that means that Jedi are not supposed to have certain kinds of love.”
“Certain kinds?” Anakin asked, obviously confused, and yet slightly hopeful.
“Yes. Jedi are not supposed to fall in love with others, but sometimes that kind of love is unavoidable. But what determines if you are a Jedi are not is what you chose to do after you fall in love.”
“Have you ever been in love, Master Kenobi?” Anakin’s big blue eyes looked up into his master’s urging Obi-Wan to reassure Anakin that he was not odd for falling in love, not that he thought his nine year old apprentice was in love.
“Yes, I was in love once,” Obi-Wan admitted.
“Did you marry her?” Anakin realized the folly in asking his question seconds after he posed it.
After master and padawan finished laughing, Obi-Wan answered, “No, I did not marry her. I did what all Jedi that accidentally fall in love do – I gave her up. We are still friends, but I would not want to allow myself to be too close to her for too long.”
“Master, am I in love?” Anakin asked.
Obi-Wan chuckled at his padawan’s naïve question. “No padawan, I do not believe you are in love yet. What you feel is more of a crush on a pretty girl.”
“What will this crush do to me?”
“Nothing padawan except keep you distracted and cause you a little heart ache.”
“How do I get rid of this crush?”
“Time, discipline, meditation, working out…”
“Keeping myself distracted by growing stronger in my abilities you mean,” Anakin said, a sly grin spreading across his face.
“Exactly.”
“When do we start?”
Obi-Wan and Anakin spent the rest of the day and many days afterward training and honing Anakin’s abilities hoping to help him get over his crush. Unfortunately for the master and padawan pair, Anakin’s crush would last much longer than Padmé’s, and his master’s words about love never fully resonated in the boy who had too many attachments.

Ah, you cannot run from the unavoidable thing that is love, little Ani.
The characterizations of Obi and Anakin were perfect. I can totally see them having this conversation. It's also nice to see a young post-TPM/pre-AotC Anakin.
Unfortunately for the master and padawan pair, Anakin’s crush would last much longer than Padmé’s, and his master’s words about love never fully resonated in the boy who had too many attachments.
The ending sentence says it all - gave me a shiver, it did. But it's love (that Obi Wan said to avoid) that saved Anakin's son and at the end brought balance to the Force. I love this fic - sad to see it end!

Thank you. I love that you notice stuff like that and comment. I think when you commented that you liked it on I Hove You that it showed me how repetitions could be a good literary device. Thanks for being a good padawan, even after knighting.

That was written after me and the stupid things I asked as a child. My mom and I were reading the Laura Ingles Wilder books and we got to the part where Mary had that disease. My mom mentioned she had it too as a kid. So I hurridly asked, “Did you die?!?” We both cracked up laughing. Ah, the fun things we say as children. Funny how they end up in fan fiction, isn’t it?

Explains why so many of them end up working out during the teenage years, doesn’t it? Wow… that was probably wrong to say.

Thanks! Jaina wanted me to write an Obi/Padme fic, but I just couldn’t. She mentioned crush… and this was the result. I’m usually good with playful banter, and that’s the relationship they seemed to have.

Shiver? Really? Wow. And I thought this was just a simple fic. Nothing too deep or anything. Guess I can’t get away from that.
