Koian Family Portrait. Jedi Family.

ratna Hey there, nice to have you back. Thank you for reading, I'm glad you like it and thank you for your nice response. I feel the same way, Vader needs to let go of his fear, even though he got his body back and even though he is the second most powerful man in the galaxy he won't ever be free until he chooses to be.

Darth_Drachonus Thank you a lot. I'll try to keep it up. blush I think my next instalment might also have a PM version. tongue

Nice job you two. Keep it up.

P.S. I really like that Jedi Family picture, I hadn't realized it is an interspecies family but they look bada$$.

Amidala66 Thank you for reading. I'm glad you enjoyed it, I know we had a lot of fun writing it. Sorry. No PM. Version this time. tongue

BzzzzMaster Thanks a lot for reading. Yup! There was a Vader clone-android and yes he got killed! You can thank ROTSFan for that, she did a great job writing that sequence. I'm assuming that pilot will get promoted or at least get a medal or something for his fantastic deed. You'll have to wait and see. grin

MasterGizz I'm glad you are still with us. Thanks for the comments, I'm glad you liked it.

Alderaan, Royal Palace:

It was the day before her trip to Coruscant and the princess was too excited to concentrate on her writing. She kept making mistakes and stopped frequently to gaze onto the distant mountains with their magnificent snowcaps. Leia was supposed to finish a formal letter thanking the Senate council in admitting her early into the internship program. True, her father had to pull a few strings to get her in, but Leia was on the top of her class and had countless letters of recommendation from her professors. Deep down in her heart the young girl somehow knew her future was unfolding along the right path this very moment. As she once more looked into the distance she could not see the white mountain peeks anymore, but saw herself flying through space on the wings of a falcon.

Suncica: I hope I’m not interrupting anything, Princess.
Leia: Oh…ahm…no, not at all. I was just…I don’t know. I guess I’m a little too nervous to write this.
Suncica: It shows.
Leia: Really? Am I that transparent?
Suncica: Actually it is quite to the contrary. You seem to have a natural gift of hiding your emotions when it counts the most.
Leia: I…what?
Suncica: Let’s just say…I have noticed you posses a great gift, and you have a natural ability to keep it hidden.
Leia: Well, my mother says I have a gift for putting my nose in where it doesn’t belong. I don’t know how well I keep that hidden, though.
Suncica: Curiosity is an admirable trait, Leia. But don’t let it get the best of you. You have to know when to let go of something small for the sake of a bigger picture. Do you understand?
Leia: I do understand, my professor tells me the same.

Suncica Koian sat down next to Leia, resting her hands on her abdomen. Curiously the young girl peeked in her direction. The woman was getting big; maybe she is carrying another set of twins, Leia thought. Suddenly the Jedi’s tone became serious and she looked at Leia as if wanting to tell her something, without actually having to say it.

Suncica: When you arrive on Coruscant, you will feel as if a cloud of dark energy is weighing you down. Don’t let it cloud your judgment. Stay alert.
Leia: That is exactly how I feel every time I’m there. How did you know?
Suncica: It is the Emperor. His dark energy is clouding everything. You must never let him inside your head. Be aware of your feelings, they could betray you. He cannot know how special you are.
Leia: I’m not special.

Embarrassed, the girl looked away pretending to be again interested in the mountains. Suncica Koian waited patiently for Leia’s gaze to return. Perhaps ambushing the girl like this was not the best approach, but she did not have much time. Leia was supposed to leave for Coruscant tomorrow and ever since the Jedi realized the girl is Force sensitive she felt she had to warn her.

Suncica: I believe you are. And if you let the Emperor to close, he will use you against everything you believe in. Please Leia, remember my warning.
Leia: I will. I…
Suncica: What is it?
Leia: There is something that happened the last time I was on Coruscant. My parents were really upset, so I really couldn’t talk to them about it…
Suncica: You can tell me.
Leia: I met Lord Vader. I did not let on…and I don’t think he even realized…but when our eyes met...I don’t know. I don’t know how to explain it.
Suncica: Try.

The mare mention of the Sith Lord was enough to knot Suncica’s stomach. To her, Vader represented everything that was wrong with her life. He destroyed the Jedi Order betraying the people who trusted him and to whom he was supposed to be loyal. But most important of all, he was a threat to her family. Like a lioness she was protective of her husband and children, and she knew Darth Vader would kill them without giving it a second thought. She had almost lost her husband to his crimson saber.

Leia: When our eyes met, it was as if time stopped for a few moments. He wasn’t at all what I imagined.
Suncica: How did you imagine him?
Leia: I don’t know. Not like this. I guess I thought when I actually saw him; he would be very dark and imposing and…scary, mean, angry…I don’t know, something.
Suncica: And he wasn’t?
Leia: No he was. He was gigantic, and his cape fluttered behind him when he walked. He was like a storm of evil coming at me and my blood froze when I found myself alone in his presence. All I could do was utter his name in complete amazement.
Suncica: Did he say anything to you?
Leia: No.
Suncica: It must have been a daunting experience. I myself have never stood face to face with a Sith.
Leia: No, that’s the thing. It was not a bad experience. He was a person…under all of that which frightened me…it was strange. When he left I felt alone.
Suncica: It could have been a trick, Leia. The stories you heard about that man, are not untrue. The blood of many Jedi is on his hands.
Leia: A trick? I don’t know. I still have dreams about him.
Suncica: What kind of dreams?
Leia: Last night I dreamt of a lake, I was swimming but something pulled me under and he rescued me. He brought me to the shore where a woman and a young boy were building sand castles. And suddenly I was five years old and we were all laughing and having fun. It felt so safe.
Suncica: You are a good person, Leia. It is only natural that you want to see the good in others. Lord Vader can be…a fascinating man, to those who don’t know him at least. There is nothing wrong in wanting him to be a good person.
Leia: You think this is all in my head?
Suncica: Sometimes we feel like we can be the triggers in helping others choose the right path. But I’m afraid it is usually an illusion.
Leia: There is still good in him. I know it.
Suncica: No. Lord Vader is evil, a man completely corrupted by the Dark Side. He orders the destruction of entire cities with a wave of his hand. He single handedly hunts down the remaining Jedi, killing them mercilessly. My husband almost died battling him.
Leia: So you think it is hopeless.
Suncica: There is nothing powerful enough to bring a person out of the clutches of the Dark Side. Not if they are that far of the right path like Darth Vader is.
Leia: I understand.
Suncica: One day you will realize just what kind of a man he is. Until than, please keep your distance.
Leia: Could you please not tell my parents about this? I don’t think they would understand.

Coruscant, Imperial Palace:

The Emperor had summoned his apprentice in the early morning. As soon as Darth Vader stepped in front of the Master, he knew his plan had failed. The clone was dead. Vader cursed himself, he should have known about this as soon as it happened, in fact he did know it on some level but chose to ignore it. He was too busy pretending, trying to recreate something that could never be brought back. He had failed; he got caught up in a moment with Naimah and failed in his duty. He was furious, and the tight confines of his black suit did nothing to ease his mood. He entered a large dark room he knew very well and found Sidious in his throne, young Mara Jade at his side. Stiffly he kneeled before his Master.

Palpatine: Lord Vader…you are looking well, for a dead man.
Darth Vader: My failure is inexcusable. Forgive me, Master.
Palpatine: Yes, Lord Vader…your failure is inexcusable. Did you seriously think, that I would not find out about your…project?
Darth Vader: No, Master.
Palpatine: Don’t insult my intelligence. You were hoping I would not know. Pathetic really, to think you could get away with hiding anything for me. Your failure is now complete.

Still kneeling before his superior, Darth Vader growled silently into his mask. He was furious with his situation. He had to take Sidious’ insults calmly and respectfully, all the while hiding his hatred for the man. It was no easy task.

Darth Vader: Yes, Master.
Palpatine: You may stand up, Lord Vader. I guess there is no more need for the charade. Take off your mask.

Slowly, the Sith Lord obliged to the order and put his gloved hands on the base of his neck. After a short pause there was a click and hiss, the mask and helmet came off and the face of a young man with piercing blue eyes was reveled. His blond locks, wet from sweat and humidity framed his pale face.

Palpatine: I haven’t seen that face in a long time, Lord Vader. I hope this new change doesn’t bring back feelings that would compromise…your responsibilities.
Darth Vader: No, Master. I assure you nothing has changed.
Palpatine: Let us hope, that is true. For your indiscretion I will have to strip you of your properties in the southern Outer Rim. They will be divided amongst the Moffs. Furthermore, your presence will be needed on The Executor, you will explain to your troops that your actions were part of a new training procedure, you will hold the highest ranking official personally responsible for not recognizing the clone as a fraud and deal with him accordingly.
Darth Vader: Yes, Master.
Palpatine: After you have reestablished your authority I have another assignment for you. Something I have no doubt you have waited for a long time. Our informants have located Kib Koian; the mission will require some finesse on your part. I want you to go undercover.
Darth Vader: Yes, Master.
Palpatine: You will take Mara Jade with you.
Darth Vader: It will not be necessary; I can deal with Koian myself.
Palpatine: No, you will go together. That is an order. I want you to get back from your mission before Empire Day; you must be seen by the people. Miss Jamari and Prince Xizor have been working hard on the preparations…I’m sure you won’t want to miss it.

The unexpected sting of jealousy flew over his features for a split second and he knew Palpatine did not miss it. This was his true punishment. His Master knew that the loss of a few planets in the Outer Rim would not faze him, and further loss of personal property would undermine his authority and draw suspicion from the Moffs, therefore it was out of the question. Not that Vader would have cared if he lost wealth and properties. Half of the time he hardly knew what and how much he owned anyway. His accountants handled everything and feared him too much to attempt to cheat him out of even a credit. Knowing that Naimah would be spending a lot of time with a man he despised, a man like Xizor, upset his pride.

Darth Vader: I would not miss it, Master. We will be back before Empire Day.

Third mood of Yuma, Tag’s layer:

Exhausted Haian Omden fell backwards onto the thin cot that was his bed. Roaring applause and angry shouts were ringing in his ears and would not stop even when he put a pillow over his head trying to drown them out. The muscles in his body tightened painfully, he could feel the sting of his sweat that was eating at his torn flesh. The Jedi had just returned from a fight, the third one this week. Quickly he had become a popular contestant, not just because of his skill but also because he was human. It was a rare occasion a human ever survived a fight and ever since Haian stepped into the ring the bets had been doubled and tripled. He never disappointed the public; at first he tried to hold back as not to rise suspicion but he found out quickly that in this sport he couldn’t afford to hold anything back. Either way, the audience could not care less who he was or where he came from, just as long as he gave a good show. Furthermore most of the people interested in these fights were utterly intoxicated by exotic spices to ever connect the puzzle. He was now part of a world with its own rules and moral codes, feeling lost.

Haian Omden: Four more months at most, than we’ll have enough credits to disappear.

A faint knock brought him back out of his thoughts and even before the door opened he knew who it was. Haian let out an annoyed groan, not wanting to deal with Ee’Vana. Tag sent her each evening to tend to his wounds and massage out the knots in his muscles, not out of the goodness of his heart but since Haian was quickly becoming his prizefighter he had to keep him in good shape.

Ee’Vana: May I come in, Master Omden?
Haian Omden: Yes, please.

She entered his room, seductively swinging her hips and deliberately grazing his thigh when she set next to him. Although he was uncomfortable with this attention he couldn’t fault her for doing her job. He knew it was expected of her to act this way, to wear the clothing she wore, showing more skin than she covered. Ee’Vana was one of the ‘fighter’s girls’ tied to the walls and columns during the fights as decorative pieces to provoke and entice the wealthy patrons. After combat, the girls served the fighters as nurses and anything else, should they wish it. They weren’t slaves, just pretty girls who were down on their luck trying to make the best out of it.

THIS IS AN IMAGE OF EE'VANA. I DON'T KNOW WHO THE ORIGINAL ARTIST IS, BUT I CHANGED THE IMAGE A LOT ON PHOTOSHOP MYSELF

Ee’Vana: I hope you are hungry. Master Tag has sent over some fruit, freshly flown in from Naboo, and cheese from Roon. Although if you ask me that cheese is cheap Coruscant imitation, but Master Tag doesn’t know the difference.
Haian Omden: Yes, thank you very much.
Ee’Vana: That was some fight; I hope you are not hurt too badly.
Haian Omden: I’m fine.
Ee’Vana: Well…at least your opponent was humanoid this time.

Ee’Vana bent over him, freeing him of his robe and examined his wounds. Embarrassed he looked away until she was done with her inspection. By now he was familiar with the routine, she would carefully put an aromatic balm on his wounds and cover them with sanitizing adhesives before she proceeded to he massage.

Ee’Vana: You are very tense, Master Omden. I’ll take care of that…

Coruscant, Imperial Palace:

Emperor Palpatine, the dark lord of the Sith sat satisfied on his throne. Everything was going according to his plan. Darth Vader and Naimah were exactly where he wanted them to be. For his plan to work they had to be just close enough to each other to form a bond, yet mistrustful enough of one another to never form an alliance. Xizor was most helpful with the latter. Vader’s jealousy was pitifully predictable it made Sidious chuckle. He had waited long enough for the couple to be ready to fulfill their destiny. Darth Vader and Naimah were serving his purpose with every action; it was only a matter of time until Naimah would give him an heir. A child Palpatine could raise as his own, a very powerful apprentice he could mold into the perfect weapon. Darth Sidious always look to the future, and this unborn child was his new obsession. Almost lovingly he looked at the red haired girl at his side. Young Mara Jade would help him in the unlikely event, should Naimah fail to do her duty.

Mara Jade: I don’t understand why you are so pleased, Master. He was ungrateful and disrespectful towards you, even after you let him get away with his treasonous ways with just a slap on the wrist.
Palpatine: Yes, Lord Vader is under the delusion his fate has changed. He has tasted freedom and it made him arrogant.
Mara Jade: You are not going to let him get away with this.
Palpatine: Oh, yes I am.
Mara Jade: But why? I saw his hatred of you when he kneeled down. He was completely out of line and should be punished.
Palpatine: What good would punishment do? He would regress, but not change. If I punished him now I would not accomplish much.
Mara Jade: That is outrageous. You are our Sovereign Ruler; he should not be allowed to treat you that way. It is treasonous.
Palpatine: I’m pleased you think that way, young Mara. But Darth Vader is a Sith, treason is in his nature. I do not fault him for it. I’m rather proud of his accomplishments…for now.
Mara Jade: He might get too strong, too powerful. What will you do if he tries to overthrow you?
Palpatine: Oh, I fully expect him to try. But do not think me a frail old man that cannot defend himself.
Mara Jade: I meant no disrespect, Master.
Palpatine: Do not worry. If Darth Vader should get too bold and forget his place, I have just the right lesson in manners for him. I hope you don’t think I would allow him to regain his humanity, and with it the power he once possessed, without insuring myself. No. I have just the right weapon to stop Lord Vader, should he get over zealous. The more powerful I allow him to get, the harder he will fall once I tear him down. That way he will truly learn who the real Master is.

Coruscant, Darth Vader’s Palace:

Darth Vader more stormed than walked into his bedroom, taking off the constricting mask and throwing it to the floor. Palpatine’s voice still echoed in his head, his insults and the look of dominance over him, his subject, was humiliating and Vader could not escape the shame he felt. His anger was rapidly transforming into murderous rage and he looked around the room for an object on which he could take it out on. His burning eyes promptly stopped at the large doorway, connecting his bedchamber to his study, where he found Naimah. It was her fault, he reasoned, and the thought echoed in his head over and over. It was she who had come into his life by Sidious’ orders and it was she who distracted him. If it weren’t for her Vader’s thoughts would be cool and calculated. He would have never allowed himself such failure if she weren’t in his life. It was true after all; she was there to distract him and to keep him from becoming too powerful. That was Palpatine’s plan. He was afraid of Vader’s power. The anger he felt swallowed his mind and he lashed out at the first object unfortunate enough to be closest to his fist. A Holo map projector broke in thousand little pieces when it smashed onto the cool marble floor.

Naimah: It did not go well, I take it?
Darth Vader: It is in your best interest to leave this room instantly. Go!
Naimah: Look; whatever happened with you and the Emperor is not my fault. You don’t have to treat me as your personal scapegoat for everything that goes wrong in your life.
Darth Vader: The clone failed. It is dead. I have to leave immediately and assume control of my men before the vultures Moffs kill themselves in their power grabbing attempts. On second thought, that might not be such a bad outcome.
Naimah: You can’t leave. You are not strong enough, yet.
Darth Vader: Oh, don’t worry. I’m sure Prince Xizor will be more than happy to entertain you while I’m gone.

His eyes held hers with sudden interest, and one corner of his lips turned up in a smirk. To Naimah’s astonishment he than put his hand very carefully on her shoulders, so as not to touch her skin, he ripped the thin material of her gown, exposing parts of her body completely to his view. He felt her shame through the Force and relished it. He wanted her to feel weak and exposed in his presence and to show her who her Master was. With an angry hiss she slapped his hand away.

Naimah: Don’t touch me!
Darth Vader: Don’t worry. I won’t.

So sorry for the delay everyone. Here is an update, albeit a short one. DRL was especially hectic over the holidays and we were working out some continuity snags. happy

Author's note: This update is in narrative form.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Vader moved through the shadows, slowly but stealthly, careful to make no sound. His injuries were not out of the woods-not by a long shot-but his Master ordered this mission and he willingly complied. Putting the weight on his injured leg caused him pain but was the only way he could cushion his steps and not make his appearance known. What Vader lacked in physical agility he made up for in anger. His pride didn't even allow him to admit she had been sent along to help him; no, he didn't need that. She was only an aide, a supplement, an apprentice.
There was a sharp but definitive nudge in his arm, he gritted his teeth and glared to his side.
Her fiery hair was barely visible as she jerked her head in the latter direction and made a tactical hand gesture.
"No," he seethed telepathically; she could hear this through the Force and he made the best use of it. "We must go around the perimeter and gather the most information before launching an ambush; that is, if our forces are sufficient to take the number of Rebels we locate."
"You make it far too complicated, my Lord. Sometimes the best way to defeat an enemy is in plain sight." He ignored her slight, finding her temporary insanity far more interesting. Was she serious? Just walking in may not get them killed, but badly injured and worse yet, alert the Rebel forces to their presence.
"No, ignoramous," she thought silently, and his nostrils flared. "I pose as a dinner guest and get to know our Rebel better. Keep your friends close; your enemies, closer."
She was valuable to the Emperor, and not just because of her force sensitivity. Vader had to admit she was clever and her ideas sound; she also had more than one face and one use, whereas he functioned as a one-dimensional warrior.
Even as a child--and to him, she was a child--the girl appeared far more grown, clever, and hardened than he would have thought. Bold, even. No one besides she had the audacity to counter his ideas, even if there were better ones. And he had a feeling she would even without the Emperor's protection.
She was stubborn that way. Strangely, it didn't anger Vader; he respected it. This girl was wholly dedicated to the Empire, no matter what her base of knowledge, and she would work for this mission. Yes, she would do nicely.
He nodded his approval and they made their way through the shadows, around the building until she located a dressing room of little consequence, before launching her plan. When she emerged from the room minutes later, Vader's eyebrows raised, for just a moment, and he raised a gloved hand to his mouth in thought.
"Most convincing." he whispered, keeping his voice down so as not to attract any unwanted attention.
Her fire red hair was slicked back, and she was attired in a blue silk gown with matching sapphire earrings. The slight makeup she had applied, and her confident posture, added years to her age but detracted nothing from her appeal.
"I'm ready." was all she said, before trailing Vader stoically to the point at which he could no longer follow her and she emerged barren, into the ballroom while he remained in the shadows, an observer.
Instantly, her demeanor changed from one of Sith to socialite and all callousness seemed to fall away, replaced by a beguiling naivety he knew was for appearances.
She made her way through the room, nodding at this person and that, before finding someone matching the correct description and honing in on her Force sense.
Kib felt a soft hand on his shoulder and turned around, seeing a strikingly beautiful young woman look at him uncertainty. Was she lost, or did he know her from somewhere? He felt drawn to her somehow, and extended his hand to the lovely young lady.
"I'm Kib. Kib Koian." he said simply.
Her response came softly, "Mara."
Very intriguing. I like it very much, I love how you kept the identity of the girl sort of ambiguous until the end. I can't wait to read what happens next with her and Kib. I hope you post soon. applause
