	First I'd like to thank LL18 for giving me the plot bunny. Thanks to Poe (DarthIshtar) for beta-ing. And finally to WynssaStarflare, Anakins_Force, and Zonoma for letting me ramble on about this lovely story. Title: In The Shadow Of The Sith Author: IrishEyedJedi Timeframe: Post ROTS Characters: Obi Wan, Leia, Han, Luke, Anakin Genre: Drama Summary: Ever since Leia Skywalker could remember she was being groomed to take over the throne of the Empire. Yet one fateful day she discovers that not everything her father told her was the truth, and that the Jedi now imprisoned in the Temple can help her achieve the destiny her mother truly intended for her. Taking justice to the streets Leia must balance a double life as the heir apparent by day and the savoir that wanders the streets of Coruscant at night. _____________________________________________________________ Prologue “I have failed you Anakin,” Obi Wan said, out of breath. “I have failed you.” His voice faltered as he looked upon his former apprentice. In his heart the Jedi Master knew his words were true. He had failed not only Anakin but also Qui Gon and the entire Order. He could have prevented this. Some how. “I should have known the Jedi were plotting to take over.” The rage was wild in Anakin’s eyes and his thoughts corrupted by Palpatine. This was his brother, how could he be so blind to the lies he was shouting? “Anakin, Chancellor Palpatine is evil!” Obi Wan shouted back over the low rumble caused by the flow of lava, the heat slowly getting to him. “From my point of view the Jedi are evil,” his response was quick and again attacked the very thing he had been a part of for all those years. “Well then you are lost!” The Jedi Master’s anger finally boiling over at how stubborn his friend was being. How could he have let Palpatine twist his mind so completely? The flotation devices, which they stood on, parted for a moment. When Anakin returned, his features had darkened and Obi Wan knew he had made the decision to kill him. Throughout the entire battle Obi Wan could feel the conflicting emotion in Anakin, but now all he could feel was darkness. “This is the end for you my master,” his voice dripping with venom. Obi Wan took a deep breath preparing for the assault that was about to come. Anakin flipped onto Obi Wan craft then proceeded to attack. They were too close to make and great advancement on the other. Sensing the shoreline was approaching Obi Wan pushed off Anakin then leaped off the craft. He landed and turned to the river of lava, knowing he had the advantage. “It’s over Anakin. I have the high ground,” Obi Wan then felt a presence near by. Not taking his eyes off Anakin he stretched out with his feelings and could sense Padme had awoken and was watching them. “You underestimate my power.” Obi Wan shook his head. He couldn’t destroy Anakin in front of his wife and child. If he were honest with himself Obi Wan would have realized he couldn't destroy Anakin at all. He was like a younger brother to him. “Don’t try it,” it was more of a plea then a warning. With one loud cry Anakin leap into the air. For an instant Obi Wan thought of using his saber, but instead he called upon the Force and threw Anakin into the large group of rocks behind him. With a sickening thud he heard his body connect with the hard surface before falling to the ground. “Obi Wan no!” came the distant cries of Padme. Ignoring them he continued towards Anakin collecting his saber in the process. The newly anointed Dark Lord struggled as he tried to steady himself on all fours. Obi Wan kicked him onto his back then bent down and held his saber to Anakin’s throat. “You think you can kill me?” Anakin mumbled as he was still in a daze. “You will not die here, Anakin,” Obi Wan said while pushing the blade closer to Anakin’s neck. “I want you to remember this night. I want you to live with the knowledge that you killed youngling and betrayed our brothers.” Obi Wan growled. “My new powers – ” “Were still no match for the light side,” the Jedi Master finished, his tone was strong but his spirit was broken. “The Dark Side did not defeat me, and neither did you. You fell for nothing.” His voice was slowly rising. Obi Wan slammed Anakin’s head into the rocks. “For nothing!” he shouted. “Let him go Obi Wan” Padme’s soft voice snapped the Jedi out of his anger. “Do you love him?” Anakin slurred. “I love you,” Padme’s voice cracked. “The Dark Side can not change that.” Obi Wan backed away from Anakin and walked over to Padme, “Are you all right?” “Yes. I’m – ” Padme let out a painful gasp. Her eyes filled with terror as she looked from her enlarged stomach back up to the Jedi Master. Taking her arm Obi Wan began to lead her back to the ship. “I’ll find you!” Anakin shouted after them. “3PO grab all of the medical supplies on board,” the Jedi shouted into the com-link, ignoring Anakin’s threats. “Master Kenobi are you in need of medical assistance?” the droid politely asked. “Senator Amidala is going into labor.” “Oh my! We’ll gather up everything we have on board. Come on R2.” Padme let out another series of painful groans and nearly collapsed to the ground. Obi Wan wrapped an arm around her waist for support. Whispering words of encouragement they finally made it back to the ship safe and sound. They quickly made it up the ramp and found the area in which the droids had prepared for her. Obi Wan was so consumed by preparing for Padme’s delivery he didn’t sense Anakin until it was too late. “Anakin NO!” Padme’s pleas were the last thing the Jedi heard before everything went black. Hours later, the Jedi Master awoke in his room back in the Temple. Disorientated, he slowly sat up; the immense throbbing and dizziness was an indication it wasn’t a good idea, but Obi Wan concentrated and let the Force begin to heal him. He pushed off the bed and tentatively stepped out into the hallway. Maybe it was all a dream, maybe the war was still going on and Anakin was still the same young man he’d always been. The halls were devoid of any life and as Obi Wan continued his search, reality slowly started to set in. He could see the blood stains in the floors and the random lightsabers on the ground. He approached the front entrance and saw an energy shield in front of it, along with a garrison of troops. “Commander, the Jedi is awake,” one of the guards, shouted as Obi Wan approached. The Jedi Master discovered he was still in possession of his and Anakin’s lightsabers. He quickly moved the objects so the troops wouldn’t see them. “We thought you were dead,” a familiar voice spoke. “Cody?” Obi Wan said as the Commander removed his helmet. “What are you doing here? Why is this shield up? Let me out!” “Can’t do that sir.” Cody watched as Obi Wan eyed the energy shield. “I was forced to attack you once, please don’t force my hand again.” Obi Wan gave the man his full attention. “The temple is surrounded by a dampening field, you wont be able to send or receive communication.” “Oh how will I keep up with my Holo-Drama’s,” Obi Wan said flatly. Cody cracked a smile as he continued. “We also have reinforced energy shields around all exists and possible escape routes.” “What about the spire?” Obi Wan asked, hoping to find any weakness in their planning. “You have access to the entire temple, including the spire, but a drop ship circles this building at all times, so please don’t try and jump. I’d hate to scrape you off the ground.” “I’ve already had my free falling experience today thank you,” Obi Wan eyed the man. “General Kenobi, I was ordered to kill you, against my conscious yes but I had to follow my commanding officer,” Cody snapped. “And you didn’t once think that maybe that order was wrong,” Obi Wan softened his tone. “Of course I did, but it came from the Emperor himself.” “I’m surprised he had the guts to transmit it himself,” Obi Wan mumbled under his breath. “I’d be thankful if I were you.” “Really, I’m a prisoner in my own home,” Obi Wan started to pace. “Just be grateful the Emperor decided to make you a prisoner and not kill you,” Cody watched Obi Wan carefully looking for any sign of trouble. “Next time Palpatine stops by I’ll thank him.” “Palpatine wasn’t the one who spared your life,” Cody had a funny look about him. “You said the Emperor?” Obi Wan stopped pacing and looked at the Commander. “Yes, Emperor Skywalker spared you.” “Anakin?” Obi Wan breathed as he sat down on a piece of ruble by the door. The words echoed in his mind but he still couldn’t comprehend them. Anakin must have killed Palpatine and taken over. His thoughts immediately went to Padme and the child. “What about Senator Amidala?” Obi Wan could feel a great sadness emanating from all of the troops who could hear him. “She died in child birth,” Cody whispered. “And the child?” Obi Wan’s heart pounded in his chest, he had spared their father for their sake and Padme’s, but if both were dead then it was in vain. “The twins are fine – Prince Luke and Princess Leia are resting in the palace,” Cody beamed. “Twins,” Obi Wan scratched his head. How had he not felt the other child? “General, we have a medic ready to take a look at your head wound if you promise to not try anything,” Cody raised his eye brow. “I’m probably the only Jedi left Cody,” Obi Wan hung his head. “There’s no where for me to go. This is my home now.” “And mine,” Cody followed the medic into the temple. “I’ve asked to be permanently assigned to guarding you, as have most of the men who served under a Jedi Commander.” “Cody, you’re a brilliant officer. You’ll move quickly up the ranks. No need to watch a man putt around here all day,” Obi Wan said as the medic shined a light in his eye. “No, there isn’t. No clone can advance beyond commander now,” Cody looked out to his troops. “Only non-clone officers now. My men shed blood for this republic and this is how we’re repaid.” His bitterness was understandable. “Well I know I’ll enjoy the company,” Obi Wan gave his friend a warm smile. “And tell your men to come inside, I’m not going to try anything. I just want to finish my life in peace.” “Don’t we all,” Cody said as he stood and waved the troops in. Obi Wan watched as the troops slowly started to shuffle into the temple. Each one shook his hand then gathered into their different units awaiting their next orders. At least he would have company, Obi Wan thought as Cody went over the agenda for cleaning up the temple. 	Rish, I am highly intrigued by this and so happy to be your beta. I love Obi-Wan's more aggressive side, the one that hasn't been destroyed by his experience, only emboldened to put it right. 	I like what you've done with this story--you've explained the AU differences very well (without making changes to the characters), which is something not everyone can do and which I always admire. Very interesting so far. 	Oh you posted! I haven't seen a story like this yet. The twists are interesting so far-I can't wait to see how the twins fare being raised as the children of a Sith/Emperor. 	Interesting! I'm already wondering about the twins, and how being raised together might affect their characters, and Luke raised in the royal family? What a switch! & Poor Obi-wan locked up for so long in the temple & Anakin as the Emperor! Wow!

	Interesting premise, Irish... This is a really great start! Anakin's Emperor now (I wonder how that happened?! ), Padmé's still dead from childbirth, the twins are with their father, and all the Clones that served under the Jedi Commanders have been gathered to guard Obi-Wan within the Temple... Wow... a veritable breeding ground of possibilities! The summary really roused up my curiosity. It sounded almost like Leia was going to, by day, be the little heiress apparent of the Empire, and then at night, will don a mask and go out making sure the laws are upheld while being trained by Obi-Wan within the Temple...
