RE: In The Shadow Of The Sith -- Post ROTS Major AU (Obi Wan/Leia/Han/Luke/Anakin) UPDATED 2/10 CH
Chapter 7 Review
the experience of watching two warriors lose themselves in the rhythmic pace of combat was spiritual.
Beautiful description, Leah!
“Oh, wait. I remember. Because you told him the blue saber was much prettier than the red,”
Is there really anything else to say to this?
He gulped. “About anything.”
Obi-wan is offering to talk about the birds and the bees!!!!!!
Still amused, Leia decided to play along to make her Master feel better about himself.
Self help books? I love how Leia is trying to allow Obi-Wan to maintain his dignity right now, despite her obvious mirth.
Once she went down the path of spying for the Rebels or whoever it was that Obi-Wan and Cody helped when they thought she wasn’t looking, she couldn’t turn back.
*nods slowly* I’m relieved that she senses the gravity of this situation. Passive resistance is one thing, but blatent treachery is another. Unfortunately, she will has to choose treachery of one father or another before this is over with. One cannot, after all, serve two masters.
“I’m not thrilled with the idea either,” Luke matched Leia’s forbidding tone. “Besides. Senator Solo and Viceroy Organa have always been good to you.”
Oh! How sweet! Even Darkling Luke tries to protect Leia. Awww.
Luke continued to give her an intense stare, “I don’t need to know everything you do, but as long as you tell me it will be alright, I’ll never question it.”
That was the one thing that I never expected to happen in this tale.
All of whom were counting on her to do the right thing, yet each had their own definition of what the right thing was.
No pressure, really!
Well written, Leah. I love the conflict you are portraying within Leia. I think that last line summed in up quite nicely, in fact!
I REALLY loved Obi-Wan offering “the talk” to Leia! That mental image! ROTFLMAO!!!
Thank you for the PM and keep those updates coming!

Luke looked around then suddenly grabbed Leia and dragged her behind a large stack of crates. “Rumor has it,” he whispered quickly before she could ask any questions, “that Bail Organa might be somehow involved with the Rebellion.”
Hmm. What will happen if that rumor happens to be true...
With Leia going to Alderaan, I wonder if she'll get involved with the Rebellion herself.
I love the update!
-- I think the Rebellion might be in her future, but not the immediate.

Yay first post again! I loved it. Luke is actually getting smarter! He thought of it b4 Leia!!! Can't wait to read more!
-- Luke is looking out for his sister. I think he understands that things are not gonna get better is things continue down this path.

I loved the conversations between the characters in this post.
Nice job.
-- Thank you, in my plotting with Z she really wanted me to drive the point home that this is a turning point for Leia. Hopefully I got that across.

Poor Leia is being torn in a few ways here. She'll do the right thing though. Glad to see Luke helping her. Smart guy and cute too.
-- He is a cutie, but I go for the smuggler/senator types

Rish, the tension that you've got on so many levels is so powerful and credible. Well done!
-- Coming from you that means a lot. Thank you!

So Leia's 'not on good terms' with Senator Solo, huh? Imagine that! Update soon! I can't wait for Leia to meet up again with that Senator.
EDIT - If you send out PM's, add me, ok? I missed your last chapter!
-- I love to send you a PM update. You're on the list. LOL Yeah Senator Solo getting on the Princess' bad side . . . what a stretch.
Arkady
-
Well Leia is heading into the think of it now. I don't think she will come back to Coruscant the same.
Arkady
-- I agree things will be a little different when she comes back.

Hmmmm, sounds like there could be more going on at Alderann then meets the eye.....
will Leia get the chance to meet Yoda?

light-
-
Leia matched it with an even bigger grin. “Why, Grand Moff, the way you talk one would think we were spying on Viceroy Organa.”
Alright, this just keeps getting better
Great Update! I love it!
Especially Obi-Wan and Leia. That was too sweet.
-- I'm so glad you all are enjoying this chapter. Thanks!

Oh, there was so much I loved in this post...the interaction between Leia and Obi-Wan was wonderful.
He paused for a moment and let out a sad laugh. “At least that’s what your mother would have said.”
“I wish I knew her,” Leia regretfully said.
Obi-Wan brushed a hair out of the young girl’s face. “All you have to do is look in the mirror.”
Lovely...
Great ending as well.
The Princess looked down at two of the three most important men in her life. All of whom were counting on her to do the right thing, yet each had their own definition of what the right thing was.
Poor Leia so young and with so much to take on.
Update soon!
-- This chapter was a real joy to write. I put a lot of prep work into it so when it came time to write everything just flowed. I'm so happy ya'll loved it.

Leia couldn’t suppress her smile. She had noticed him spending more time in the Library, looking at books related to female Padawans and teenage humanoids. “Have you been reading those self-help books again?”
I loved that little bit! I can see him doing that too...
-- Z and I were laughing our butts off when I mentioned I was gonna put that in there. I think Obi-Wan hates not knowing about things, so he'll research stuff to death.

Big props to my girl Poe for beta-ing. Sorry I'm updating a little slower, works gotten busy. So I'm trying to keep to some schedule . . .
I know, I know.
Anyway I feel like this chapter is such a let down after the last emotional one we had. As always if you want a PM Update let me know.

Chapter 8
The next morning, the Princess arrived on Alderaan, the fresh air whip past her open door as the ramp to the ship lowered. Taking a deep breath, she let the winds calm her nerves. Throughout the entire trip, she had been debating on whether or not to tell Obi-Wan about the attack on the Rebels. Knowing she had several days to ponder this dilemma, Leia decided to enjoy as much of Alderaan as possible.
She had changed into formal attire for her meeting with the Viceroy but was itching to throw on some of her more casual clothes to walk around in. Her escort would prove to be a problem, however. She sat, patiently waiting for them to scan the hangar and meet with the Royal Guard. Twenty minutes later, the lead stormtrooper came to her quarters.
“Commander, I’d prefer if your unit would stay with the ship during my stay here,” Leia said immediately. “The Royal Guard is more than capable of protecting me while on the Palace grounds.”
“But you have the best unit in the Empire. Surely you wouldn’t want to waste them?”
Normally, a storm trooper’s voice wasn’t very distinctive but this one had a personality to it and there was only one Commander the Princess knew who had a personality. Leia slowly stood as she eyed the mask of the man for a moment.
“Cody?”
The trooper bowed. “At your service.”
“How did you –”
“Let’s just say we still have friends in high places,” Cody’s voice was distorted by the helmets microphone.
For a moment Leia was excited she had allies, but then it dawned on her that she wasn’t completely isolated from the things she wanted to get away from. “Did Obi-Wan send you?”
When the trooper didn’t speak, Leia realized it hadn’t anything to do with Obi-Wan but with Bail Organa. “You heard that Intelligence was going to use my trip to spy on the Viceroy didn’t you?”
“I told the General we should probably tell you before we left,” Cody tried to sound innocent.
Leia gave a small laugh and shook her head. “Well, it’s good to know I don’t have to watch what I say in front of you guys. I assume you checked for bugging devices?”
“Scanned the ship before we left and we just ran a full sweep of your room in the Palace. Everything is clean.”
“Wonderful, so I can actually have a relaxing visit,” Leia responded as she began to head for the door.
“They may not have bugged you, but there are spies here. They’ll watch your every move along with the Viceroys,” Cody quickly whispered as they made their way to the ramp.
“Spies?” Leia echoed.
Cody’s voice became suddenly grim and full of warning. “There are some here on Alderaan who do not agree with Viceroy Organa’s belief in peace. They much prefer a more militaristic approach to the Rebels and to the Galaxy. Not to mention those who profit from the Empire’s existence.”
The sudden sounds of boots scuffing the pavement alerted Leia that she was standing at the top of the ramp. She looked back up at Cody and gave him a small nod, indicating that she understood what he was trying to convey in their short conversation. Just like on Coruscant, she was going to have to be on guard, especially when the enemies appear to be your allies. Just before descending down the ramp she noticed a certain pair of boots standing next to a more formally dressed pair. She let out a groan before readjusting herself to appear more regal. She took Cody’s arm and allowed him to escort her down the ramp and to the Viceroy. As the Princess had suspected, the Senator was standing next to his father.
Leia gave a small bow. “Viceroy Organa I apologize for coming on such short notice.”
Both Han and Bail reciprocated the bow. “Your Highness, it is an honor to have you. I hope you’ll enjoy your stay here,” Bail said with enthusiasm.
The group turned to walk out of the hangar and just as Leia stepped into the light, she was met with the most gorgeous vista she had ever seen. “Wow,” she breathed.
She stopped dead in her tracks and looked around in all directions. It was the most beautiful place. The lakes sparkled with the reflections of the stunning mountains. The wind tickled the grassy plains and the Palace stood as the crown jewel in the center of it.
“Her Highness is speechless,” Han began. “Something I thought wasn’t possible.”
Leia was too busy soaking up the seen before her to take part in any verbal sparring with the Senator. Instead she took a different approach. “Why would you ever want to leave?”
“It’s hard,” his tone now warm, “but I do it to ensure its safety.”
Leia looked over at the Senator and smiled. At least for now there was a silent truce between them.
“Come,” Bail said with a beaming smile. “We’ve prepared a magnificent breakfast.”
Bail moved to Leia’s side and offered his arm. Minutes later, they were all seated in an intimate dining room with a large balcony behind them. Leia just sat and enjoyed watching the thin curtains blow in the breeze.
“Winter,” Bail called out.
A moment later a young girl about Leia’s age appeared. She had brilliant white hair and her features were very similar to the Princess’.
“If you should need anything during your stay, Winter has been instructed to help you,” Bail explained and motioned to the girl.
“Thank you so much.” Leia smiled before turning her attention to the girl. “Have you had breakfast yet, Winter?”
“No, Ma’am, but I – ”
“Wonderful. Then the first thing you can do is take a seat and help me try all of this,” Leia said gleefully.
Winter took a seat next to the Princess and began describing the different types of food. The table was silent for a few minutes, but of course the silence was broken by none other than His Annoyingness, that was the new nickname Leia had come up with for the Senator.
“So, how long do you plan on staying?” Han asked while piling his plate high with food.
Leia tried to avoid eye contact with the Senator. “Just a few days.”
“While you’re here, you must let me take you on a tour of the Palace garden,” Bail spoke up. “Your mother was very fond of it.”
Leia tried to control the sadness which overtook her, but any mention of her mother seemed to break through all of her training. “My mother visited Alderaan?”
Bail shifted uncomfortably in his chair before answering. “She did, and I’ll show you her favorite flowers when we walk through the garden.”
Leia picked up on the Viceroy’s uneasiness about the subject. It was different from her father’s pain. Yes, she could sense sadness from him but also fear. What the Viceroy was afraid of Leia could not pick up on, but she was determined to figure it out.
Help me, Leia
Leia took a sharp intake of air as she heard the faint plea from her vision. Every month or so she would be plagued by it, but she had never heard the female voice outside the Imperial Palace
“Would it be okay if I walked the Palace grounds?” Leia asked as she slowly rose from the table, causing Han, Bail and Winter to stand as well.
“I could give you a tour if you’d like,” Han offered.
“I think I’d like to be alone for a while,” The Princess said hastily before heading towards the door. “3PO, R2.”
The droids quickly followed their mistress as she exited the room. She had rounded several corners when a familiar voice called out to her.
“Troubled you seem,” Master Yoda spoke from a small door.
Surprised by his sudden appearance, the young girl walked over to him. “Master Yoda?”
“Welcome, Young Skywalker,” Yoda said while slowly walking towards her.
Leia bowed to the Jedi Master. “Thank you, Master Yoda. It is a great honor to meet you.”
Leia then looked around, worried that someone might see them.
“Restricted this part of the Palace is. Safe we are,” his voice full of confidence and comfort.
The two began to walk at a leisurely pace. “Worried about you, your Master is. Concerned by your sudden departure,” Yoda began. “Much conflict I sense in you.”
“Yes, Master.” Leia dropped her head. “I feel like I’m being pulled in so many different directions. Everyone expects different things from me and each conflicts with the other. I don’t know who I’m supposed to be.”
Leia finally looked over at him. “Am I suppose to be an Empress? Leader of the Senate? Apprentice to a great Jedi? Or a Rebel?”
“Many roles you must play in order to fulfill your destiny. Difficult your journey will become, afraid to ask for help you must not be.”
“I’ve come to a pivotal moment, Master, if I choose one path I will not be able to turn back. I risk losing my family for the greater good of the galaxy,” Leia’s voice was shaky and unsteady. “If I choose the other path I risky losing myself and the person my mother wished me to be.”
“Choose your own path, you must.”
“My own path? Master Yoda, I don’t have my own path.” Leia said with apprehension.
A thoughtful expression creased his brow. “Made the decision to train with Obi-Wan you did. To train as a Jedi and turn away from the teachings of your father. Come to Alderaan you have, to make a difficult choice. Harder these choices will be, but the Force knew your path would be a difficult one. That is why you were chosen to walk it.”
Yoda stopped to look at a flower for a moment; he turned back to her with a grin. “Come. Need your help I do.”
Leia and the droids followed Yoda down another hallway. They were approaching an open door that had a familiar voice coming from it.
“How are you feeling?” Han’s voice was barely above a whisper.
“Oh, I’ve had better days,” an older woman’s raspy voice responded.
“You look beautiful.” Leia could hear the smile in the Senator’s voice.
“Wait a moment,” Yoda breathed to the Princess as he shuffled into the room.
Leia stayed by the doorway. She peeked around it and could see an eloquent bed near an open window. Han was sitting on the side of the bed tending to the middle aged woman resting in it.
“Master Yoda,” the woman happily said.
“A visitor I’ve brought.”
Leia ducked back behind the doorframe before Yoda called on her. “Princess Leia.”
She slowly stepped into the room. Her eyes darted from Master Yoda’s to Han then to the fragile woman lying in bed. She had a kind face with a warm smile. Leia had known about the Queen’s bad health, but she didn’t realize it had gotten worse. Walking up to the bed the Princess gave a deep bow.
“Oh, my child, it is I who should be bowing,” the Queen said.
“No, your Highness, it is entirely my honor,” Leia said as she stood.
“Helping me with your treatment the Princess is.”
Yoda was now sitting across from Leia and the Senator. He took the woman’s hand and motioned for Leia to do the same.
“Focus on her pain,” Yoda instructed as he closed his eyes.
Leia took hold of the Queen’s hand and did as she was told. Immediately Leia could feel that the Queen was ever so slowly dying. No doctor would be able to detect it yet, but as the young girl focused on relieving the pain she felt utterly helpless. Here was a woman who sacrificed everything for her people, to do what was right, even when the rest of the galaxy was giving in. As Leia finished she opened her eyes and saw the Queen staring at her.
“You look so much like your mother,” she whispered. “I see her strength in you.”
“I doubt I could ever be as strong a leader as – ”
“No, no,” the Queen interrupted. “She had a much deeper strength – that of conviction and character. I see that in your eyes.”
The older woman’s words echoed in Leia’s mind, hours later. Night had fallen and for the first time in the young Princess’ life she could see the stars from a planet’s surface. The lights of Coruscant always blotted them out, but here they were like a veil that blanketed the world. A knock on the Princess’ door disrupted her thoughts.
“Come,” she shouted from her balcony.
“Your Highness, I was just checking to see if you needed anything before I retired for the night.” Winter said in her pilot way.
Leia looked over her shoulder. “No. Thank you.”
“May I speak freely, Ma’am?” Winter asked as she crept closer to the Princess.
Caught off guard by this, Leia turned and leaned against the wall of the balcony while giving Winter a curious look. “Of course.”
“Why have you come to Alderaan?”
Leia held her chest as she took a deep breath. “I need time to think and Coruscant was too distracting,” she paused. “A friend used to tell me stories about Alderaan and when I decided to leave I felt this was the best place to come.”
“Good to know our leaders take their roles seriously.” Winter was genuine in her comment.
“It’s unique for someone your age to care so heavily about politics.”
Winter finally had the courage to join the Princess on the balcony. “I hope to go into politics in the next year or so. The Senator has promised to hire me as his personal aide.”
“I bet he has,” Leia muttered.
Winter gave a small laugh, “The Senator is a much more honorable man than he lets on.”
“He likes having the reputation of a scoundrel?” Leia asked, surprised that anyone would like to have that reputation.
“If that helps him preserve the little democracy that is left in the Empire, than yes.”
Leia eyed Winter carefully. The girl meant what she said, the Princess could see it in her eyes.
“Let me ask you a question. Why do the Rebels fight?
“They fight for the freedoms which have been slowly taken away from them. They fight for those who can’t and for those to afraid to stand up for themselves,” Winter took a breath. “However I think they would stop fighting once you take the throne, your Highness.”
“Me?!” Leia nearly chocked on her words.
“It is believed that you are much more compassionate than your father and your battles against the Imperial Navy and Intelligence are well-known.”
Leia pulled her robe closer to her body as the wind picked up a moment. “I just want what’s best for the galaxy and allowing the military free reign is not on that list.”
“I think you’ll make a great leader.”
“How do you know that?” Leia had finally snapped.
All the pressure and the comparisons to her mother culminated into this moment of frustration. Why did every one expect her to be so great, when she didn’t even know which way was up?
Letting out a frustrated breath, she apologized. “I’m sorry, Winter.”
“It’s quite alright. I’ve heard a lot worse from the Senator.”
Her comment caused both of them to laugh. “Well, Your Highness, if you need anything please don’t hesitate to ask. I enjoyed this small chat. It’s not often one gets to talk with the Princess of the galaxy.”
Winter had begun to move back into the room when Leia called out to her. “Winter. How would you like to be the personal aide to a Princess instead of a Senator?”

- You’re doing a great job with this story. I love the pacing of it...and the little funnies you put in.
“Her Highness is speechless,” Han began. “Something I thought wasn’t possible.”
This made me
I liked this as well -
The table was silent for a few minutes, but of course the silence was broken by none other than His Annoyingness, that was the new nickname Leia had come up with for the Senator.
Good to see Yoda too…I really like that little troll!
“Many roles you must play in order to fulfill your destiny. Difficult your journey will become, afraid to ask for help you must not be.”
I hope Leia can find her way in all this turmoil.
Lovely work
- I look forward to the next update.

Who will Winter choose: The Solo or the Princess? Hard choice there.
So with Leia feeling torn, it's going to be interesting to see how she her reasoning for choosing the path she does.
How could this chapter be a let down? It's every bit as good as the last update!

RE: In The Shadow Of The Sith -- Post ROTS Major AU (Obi Wan/Leia/Han/Luke/Anakin) UPDATED 2/23 CH
You know, despite the fact that we saw Alderann for all of about 5 seconds....I always get a peaceful feeling whenever it is mentioned. I really don't know why......
But its good to see that Leia knew she could go there to really think about what her future holds for her. Talk about pressure
The table was silent for a few minutes, but of course the silence was broken by none other than His Annoyingness, that was the new nickname Leia had come up with for the Senator.
His Annoyingness.....
Its perfect!

I loved Leia/Winter here, especially how in-character Winter was and how Leia was more idealistic in her treatment of a servant, which I think she got from Anakin. I also liked Leia/Yoda/Breha and it's giving me plot bunnies for an AU of my own involving Leia, Breha and a force-power...

I really enjoyed this chapter.
Leia's interactions with everybody, especially Han and Winter, were perfect.
I also enjoyed her conversation with Yoda. Choose your own path, he said. Well, she has many different paths to choose from. Why can't she combine a few of them? It's certainly possible.
I look forward to the next installment.

It seems as though Alderaan is bringing more questions than answers for Leia.
Great post.
