The Princess stopped a moment and pretended to think, “I think scoundrel fits better.” Evil cliffie though...Luke?... -- Their bickering is so much fun to write . . . I think I could do it all day. Arkady - Uh oh, what's the bad news? Too bad Leia has to leave so soon and not spend some more time with the scoundrel. I think he's a good influence on her. Arkady -- You're right he is a very good influence on her . . . and vice versa. Chewie-Fan - Oh, my... Wonderful chapter. Han's conversations between Leia and Yoda were so well written. 	Ok first off I'm sorry it took so long to post this chapter. I've been dealing with DRL, the flu and the boards acting crazy. I was hopped up on meds this past Saturday and I swear I saw a Wrath Of Kann banner and a Ep IV banner with Leo and Katie Holms . . . did anyone else see this? So it's late and I should be in bed sleeping but I wanted to post this chapter so I wont be sending PM until tomorrow morning . . . after most of you have read it. So just ignore the PM when I send it - it helps keep my PM's organized if I just send it out to the entire group. Feel free to PM back and say "Hey Crazy I read it already" Ok enough of my drug induced rambling - Big ups to Z who beta'd this chapter and as always to those of you out there who I harass about this story ______________________________________ Chapter 10 "Your Highness is everything alright?" Bail asked, his face etched in concern. "No," Leia said quickly. "I'm afraid the thing I was running away from is finally coming to fruition." "Is there anything I can do to help?" "You've already done so much, Viceroy. I thank you for your generosity in allowing me into your home," Leia said with a gracious nod. Bail put his hands on her shoulders, as if he sensed her rising fears and felt the need to comfort her as a father would. "You are always welcome here, Your Highness. Alderaan will always be a safe haven for you whenever you like." Without thinking, Leia leaned in and gave the man a hug. "Thank you," she pulled back, "for everything." They shared one understanding look before Leia turned to follow her droids. Minutes later, she was in her room packing up everything when she heard a knock on the door. "Come." "Your Highness?" Cody briskly walked into the room. "The ship won't be ready to leave for another two hours." "Two hours?!" Leia snapped. "Cod – Commander, I don't have that time." "I'm sorry, but the coolant lines are being flushed and the drives refueled. It takes time." Punching her bed, Leia turned away from him and looked out into the sunset. "Every minute I waste here a person's life is lost." "I know someone with a fast ship," the timid voice of Winter caught Cody and Leia off guard. -- "What a piece of junk," Leia blurted out. "She'll make point five past lightspeed," Winter beamed as she walked over to the Corellian Freighter. "Made the Kessel run in 12 parsecs." "So I've heard," Cody added dryly. "She might not look like much, but she's got it where it counts," Han's voice startled everyone. "Can I help you with something, Princess?" "Senator, Her Highness needs to leave Alderaan immediately but her ship isn't ready," Winter said with a smile, obviously trying to appeal to the Senator's better nature. "Oh no, Winter. I want to hear her Highness say it," Han said with a triumphant grin. Leia strolled over to meet the man. "And what is it you want me to say?" "That you need my help." "What are you?Four?" Leia gaped in disbelief. His smirk was bordering on obnoxious and cute at the same time. "More like twenty four, but close." "Really? One would never know it by the way you act." "I hate to break up this Senate session," Cody tried to sound as polite as possible, which was a hard task with a storm trooper helmet on, "but Her Highness needs to get back to Coruscant immediately. It's a matter of great importance." Han looked from Cody to Winter and finally to Leia, obviously waiting for her to say the magic words. Gritting her teeth, she looked away and mumbled. "I need your help." "I'm sorry I didn't catch that?" he said while putting his hand to his ear. She growled. "I need your help." "Was that so hard to say?" he asked with great pleasure. "Yes, it was actually more painful than – " "Your Highness, there is one problem," Cody interjected before she could finish the insult. "May I speak with you in private a moment?" Nodding her head, they walked away from Han and Winter. "It will look very suspicious if you come back to Coruscant on Senator Solo's personal ship." Leia bit her lip. "I hadn't thought of that." They both stood silent a moment trying to think of ways around their dilemma. "Is there anyway for me to meet up with the ship before docking?" Leia asked. "No, once we enter Coruscant space you'll have an escort. If we deviate from the course they'll think something has happened on board the ship," Cody explained as he took a deep breath and looked over at Winter and Han. "What we need is a decoy." Leia followed Cody's eye until she was staring at Winter. "I haven't used a decoy in a long time," she sighed. "Hopefully the kit on the ship still works." Twenty minutes later Leia was starring at a mirror image of herself. 3PO and R2 had brought the kit over to the Falcon and the group had gone on board to conduct their business in private. 3PO handed Winter the final touch, the voice emulator. She inserted it into her mouth and took a moment to adjust to it. "Your Highness." Her voice was perfect. Han's mouth hung open and Leia smirked. It seemed the brash senator from Alderaan could be surprised after all, and by a mere slip of a girl. Leia, reminding herself of what was at stake, took a step toward Winter and grabbed her hand. "When you arrive, just keep your head down. The Commander will escort you to my room. I'll be waiting." Winter nodded her head nervously. "We should get going," Cody said as he pulled Leia aside. "You still haven't told me what this is about." "You'll know soon enough. I just need you to trust me," she whispered. "Please." "Alright, but keep your saber on you at all times," Cody said sternly. "I will," Leia mumbled wanting to reach out and hug him but knew it was too dangerous. "Princess, here is your lightsaber and robe," 3PO interrupted. "R2 and I took the liberty of packing you a small travel bag. You should have everything you need." "Thanks 3PO," Leia said while throwing her robe on and tucking her saber away. "If she's mistreated in anyway – " "I got ya, Slick," Han said a bit more defensively than Leia expected. "Don't worry. She won't have a braid out of place." Cody stared at him a moment, the Princess could only imagine the look Cody was giving him. Leia rolled her eyes and reminded herself that men needed this macho display before asking Cody to fashion Winter her own mock up lightsaber to complete the look as her kit didn't have one yet. Thanking Winter and Cody one more time, she then stood at the top of the ramp as the group left. Her chest began to tighten as she slowly realized she was beginning to seal her fate. The ramp began to rise and the last thing she saw was Winter's worried face. Hours later, the Princess sat in the galley staring at the data pad which contained Luke's urgent message. Rogue, He's going ahead with the plan. They've taken my prototype to the factory to produce a squadron to lead the assault in a task force of Destroyers. The attack is planned to commence in a week. What are you going to do? Japor Luke was so scared about sending the message he had used their code names. They had come up with them when they realized Imperial Intelligence was screening their messages transmitted from their personal data pads. That was around the time Leia stood up against Tarkin on how far the military could invade a person's privacy, all in the name of security for the Empire. "So you gonna tell us what you've been staring at for the past three hours or do I have to send Chewie over there to take it?" [You'll have to do your own dirty work, Cub] The Wookiee woofed in response as he continued to tinker with the wiring on the side panel. This caused a small smile to tug on the Princess' lips, "I'm sorry for my rudeness." She put the data pad away. "You're doing me a great favor by taking me back." "Since you're using my former potential personal aide as a decoy, I'm guessing we're not dropping you off at the front door of the Palace?" Han said as he leaned back on the couch and eyed her carefully. "No," her voice was tight. "So ya wanna give us a clue?" exasperation laced in his voice. "Anywhere put the Palace or Senate district," she said quickly before looking away. "Oh," Han stood and threw up his hands. "That helps a lot." [Cub] Chewie gave a warning growl. "Listen here, Princess," Han said as he walked over and leaned on the game table across from her. "You're gonna tell me what this is all about or I'm turning us around." "I can't tell you," Leia said softly. "And why in the nine hells not?" Han's voice was bordering on shouting. "Because it would put your lives in grave danger." She kept her face stone still so he knew she was serious. His facial feature quickly went from frustration to worried. "Now look here, you aren't planning anything stupid are ya? I promised that Commander of yours I wouldn't let you out of my sight." "I can take care of myself – " "I'm sure you can," he paused "but I made a promise . . ." For a non-force sensitive the Senator sure had a strong mental guard, but even the Princess could feel that the promise he was referring to was not the one made to Cody. Suddenly memories of her vision and the incident at the lake came flooding back to her. At some point she would have to trust this man, because whether she liked it or not, he was going to play a significant part in her life. "Well," she began slowly. "I will need help finding a splicing device since I don't have R2 with me." "Splicing device?" Han repeated slowly and thoughtfully, his face showing confusion as he turned away. Chewie appeared out of nowhere and took a seat at the gaming table [What else do you need?] "Chewie!" Han shouted from the hallway, still pacing. [You're trying to do something good, but you're conflicted about it. I could sense it since you arrived.] he softly woofed. [I'll deal with Cub, just tell us what you need.] "A splicer device that can retrieve secured data and an untraceable datapad to record the files to," she breathed with apprehension. [A friend of ours can help you with that, but he'll want to meet you in person.] "Who is he?" Leia asked. "Lando," Han said, walking back into the galley. "Barron Calrissian? The owner of the Cloud City Hotel and Resort on Coruscant?" "The very one," the Senator said while slumping back down on the couch. "He and I go way back." "I should have known. You two were at the final sabacc table for the Coruscant Classic a few years back." She rolled her eyes. "Maybe now you'll appreciate my shadier friends, once they help you out," his smugness returned. [We can doc at the hotel – no one will suspect a thing. I'll go ahead and transmit a message to Lando to let him know we're coming] Chewie spoke quickly. It was an obvious attempted at trying to keep the peace. The room fell quiet a moment once the Wookiee left. "Thank you," her voice was barely audible. "Don't thank us yet, Lando can be picky about who he wants to deal with." Han said while rubbing his eyes. "I meant thank you for saving me," she took a steadying breath "at the lake." Han looked over at her. His gaze held a hint of concern, confusion, and maybe a small sliver of caring. "You're welcome, Your Highness." "We're not in session. You can call me Leia," she blushed while saying. "Only if you call me Han," he gave a cheeky response. "Okay . . . Han," Leia said with a shy smile. "Now, Leia," he emphasized her name "are you going to tell me what this is all about?" She took a deep breath and looked back up at him. She was going to have to trust him, but neither wanted to be the first to bend, so maybe they could find compromise. "You and I both have secrets, and neither of us wants to be the first to reveal them. So why don't we make a pact." "Go on," Han said while sitting up to listen to her. "We each ask one question and one question only when things like this happen. And if the question is true or close to true we don't answer – that way no one can hear or see a confirmation," she finished. "What do you say?" He sat, musing the proposal over, "This little mission of yours – are you trying to help the Rebellion?" It took a moment for the Princess to realize her mouth was slightly open, but she did not answer. She kept silent and watched as Han struggled with showing any emotion. "My turn," her voice calm. "Are you and your father part of the Rebellion?" For an instant she thought he was going to say something but instead he just stood and walked to the kitchen. Quietly he poured two small glasses of Corellian brandy. As he walked back over he handed one to the Princess and kept the other. "To a new understanding," his voice was low. "And a new friendship," she added. "A stronger friendship," he corrected. Leia was about to take a sip when Han stopped her. He hooked his arm around hers and motioned for her to do that same. The tall Senator had to slouch so Leia could reach her glass. They clicked glasses and proceeded to down their brandy in silence. Well, Han downed his and took hers after a sip, much to her annoyance. As she glared at him, he raised a brow, obviously amused, and Leia suddenly didn't find his smirk so annoying. Startled, she looked at her nearly full glass, "I should get some rest. I have a lot of work to do." Han took her brandy, "This is just the beginning. We have a long road ahead of us." 	Lando?!?!?! Well, I suppose the upside of this is that he can't really betray them to Vader because Leia and Vader are already in cahoots. The decoy was great.
