There is so much
stuff
in this chapter! Yes, I know, I should be able to think of a better word...
Anyway, the point that Mon Mothma raises is a question that I have been wondering for a bit. Why is the Senate there after the Empire is formed? To placate the planets into acceptance? I'm sure they don't have much in the way of actual power. Of course, the Emperor wouldn't want to be constantly subdueing them with his overgrown fleet, until perhaps the Death Star...
And LOL at Luke having said the three most intelligent sentences in the entire meeting. I can so see that, even when he is fourteen. *ducks tomatoes from the Imperial lovers*
And Anakin...
The twins have had a good effect on him, but he is still the Emperor and must make hard decisions. I would say that they should try negotiation, but... I doubt that Anakin would grant the Senate much more power than they have. It's an ideology clash, and I don't see anyone changing their minds.
At least Anakin actually acknowledges the Rebellion as a threat. *snort*

Irish, this is a stunning beginning to what promises to be a very good story. I'm glad I found it.
I love Leia and Obi-Wan's interactions. I also really like how you've brought Han in. I can actually see him as a Senator.
Do you mind adding me to your PM list? Thanks.
Good job so far. I look forward to more.

That is kind of funny how they are both frustrated by the same thing. I imagine that once they prove themselves they won't have that problem.
I loved how Leia was so flustered by Senator Solo. And if he did glance up at her 47 times, I guess he is smitten with her too.
It's good that her and Anakin have developed a better relationship. It seems like they have an easier time talking now, though they will never agree on how to deal with the rebels.
Great post!
-- I wouldn't say Han is smitten . . . yet. I think he's just protective.

Oh, why do I get the feeling a certain Corellian Senator is involved in the Rebellion, which will only make the path to true love even more rocky? 14, huh? The author must move this forward four years, and quickly!

*grins* The twins are going through the growing pains in their specific areas! That was an excellent portrayal, Irish! Mon Mothma seems to be rather cranky these days, picking on Leia before she can even make her point. Kudos to Han for sticking up for her and effectively shutting Mon up.
And Leia's got a crush! *is absolutely tickled* This is so adorable to see! Teenage Leia's got her eye on the older Alderaani Senator! Here's hoping Dartb Daddy Dearest doesn't find out! I don't think Han needs to have a run in with him and then a dip in carbonite! Definitely not good for Vader's diplomatic relations with both Alderaan and his daughter!
I'm also glad that Luke and Leia got Anakin to hold off on going at the Senators and the Generals. They do need to prove themselves to them, and giving the impression that they run to DDD every time they have a problem is not the way to do it. Excellent move on their parts.
Leia's conversation with her father kind of gave me the chills, though. The Rebellion's fast becoming enough of a bother that Anakin's considering attacking them. And if the Death Star's operational now, this could be very bad. Here's hoping that if it is, Tarkin is at a posting as far away from it as possible. *glares at Tarkin* Let's not go blow up Alderaan this time!
Again, great chapter, Irish! Much fun to read, as always!
AQ
-- The Death Star isn't finished yet. They'd just send a few Star Destroyers

You know....I really have no idea how I managed to miss these last few posts. oops. But I can say that I'm loving it!!!
I really like how Leia's character is progressing. Let's just hope she turns out a little bit stronger than Padme so she can save Anakin when the time comes.
-- I always thought Leia was stronger, probably because she's as stubborn as her father.
Arkady

Maybe the Empire would'nt be such a bad place with Leia in charge. She really seems to want to do what is right. And with a certain Senator to help her out...
Arkady
-- Leia is trying to help her father by making it as nice as possible.

“What if the democracy we thought we were serving no longer exists, and the Republic has become the very evil we have been fighting to destroy?” Anakin’s voice was whimsical and distant.
Oh, great! So now he gets it.
Anakin explained while keeping his eyes locked on a certain apartment building.
I'm guessing it was Padmes.
“Yes I believe he glanced up at you 47 times.”
This post gave me lots of mixed emotions. I loved it!
Oh so that was what was pulling her back. Awesome.
-- LOL I forgot what this last sentence meant, but now I remember.

So there's a rebellion brewing...yay!
And I'm glad to see Luke and Leia want to prove themselves rather than have Anakin do everything for them. That speaks well of their character.
Now I can comment on Sentor Solo...he really is the new black.
-- Yes Senator Solo WAS in this chapter and he'll be in the next

-- Well for a while the Rebellion was a gorilla type group. When Leia was 8 I mentioned it existing but in small amounts. Mostly just spying and such. I'm taking the appraoch that the Rebellion had a slow build.

Hiya folks, I'm trying to keep this on a weekly schedule. We'll see how it goes. Again I want to thank those of you who took the time to nominate this fic for best all around. I hope you all like the excerpt I pick.
Big ups to my Beta Ms. Poe and to my crew.

Chapter 6
Wandering the streets at night was a favorite past time of The Princess’ and had been ever since she could master the art of sneaking out of the Palace. She felt ‘alive’ and connected to the Galaxy more by freely walking the streets. She’d pass by bars and gambling joints, watch as merchants try and sell their wares to the nighttime crowd. She could watch lovers find secluded corners and friends enjoy each others company.
However it wasn’t all pleasant. She’d see children starving, parents being hustled for money by the local thugs and people secretly being bought and sold like they were furniture. It hardened her resolve to change things, to fight for those who had no voice.
She ducked down a small alley and saw a young boy lying on his side. He was about her age and was violently coughing, and shaking. Without thinking, Leia ran up to him.
“Are you all right?” Leia asked as she knelt down beside him.
She touched his forehead with the back of her hand. He was burning up.
“I have to . . . ” the boy panted. “Deliver this.”
“You shouldn’t be out here.”
Leia began to use the Force to try and find the infection. She had done well with Force healing techniques that she was already on advanced lessons.
“He’ll kill me if I don’t deliver the package,” the boy whispered as he clung to an object Leia couldn’t see clearly.
“Here let me help you,” Leia strained to say as she helped the boy to sit up and lean against the wall.
It was then Leia finally saw the object he was holding. It was the model X-Wing Luke had given the Twi’lek boy all those years ago. “Where did you get this,” Leia forcefully demanded.
“My friend,” he paused to take a breath. “Prince Luke and Princess Leia gave it to him.”
Again the boy had to take a moment to catch his breath. “He gave it to me just before they took him.”
“Who took him?” Leia pleaded.
“The Hutts. His parents couldn’t repay their debts.” The boy became visibly upset. “And they’ll do the same to me if I don’t deliver this.”
“You need your rest or you’ll never recover from this infection.”
“I’ve had it for months,” the boy said as he finally stared right into her hood, his eyes begging for help.
The Princess took a deep breath and decided to act, and worry about the consequences later. “Just relax, close your eyes and focus on where it hurts.”
The boy pulled away from her a moment. “What are you gonna do?”
“Help.”
Determined to make some sort of difference, Leia placed her hands on the boy’s chest and began to concentrate. Through the Force, she found the infection, which was spreading from his lungs. She focused on letting the Force heal and drive the infection out of the boy’s body. A light began to emanate from her hands as Leia used all her strength to heal him. She finally broke contact and collapsed back against the opposite wall. She watched the boy for a moment, hoping she hadn’t kill him. When his eyes fluttered open, she gave a sigh of relief.
“What did you do?” the boy sounded healthy again.
“I healed you,” Leia groaned while standing up.
The young boy also stood but he quickly leaned against the wall. “You should rest.” Leia instructed. “Your body’s been through a lot.”
“I wish I could.”
Leia eyed the boy a moment. “Who is it you’re scared of?”
“Me,” a mechanical voice startled both young children.
Out of the shadows came a figure clad in armor with a jet pack strapped to him. His gun was at his side, un-holstered. His armor rattled as he stepped towards them. Not one to back down, Leia stepped in front of the boy. She didn’t make a move for her saber yet.
“You’re a brave little one,” the voice laughed mockingly.
“Who are you?” Leia growled.
“Obviously you don’t frequent this area often or you’d know who I am,” the voice said with curiosity.
“Sorry to disappoint.”
“The name’s Boba Fett, and you are?”
“A friend.” Leia’s voice did not falter as she stood up to the man.
“I’d tread carefully, young one. I’m not the most feared bounty hunter in the galaxy because I’m merciful,” Fett said as he took a step closer.
“I may be young, bounty hunter, but it is you who should be careful.”
The two stared at each other a moment, sizing up the other. Finally Fett broke out into laughter.
“You are brave. I’ll give you that, but you stand in the way of business. Something I can’t have.”
“This boy needs his rest,” the Princess argued, desperately trying to figure out some way of helping the poor boy.
Then it came to her, “Allow me to deliver the package for him.”
Fett said nothing. His face was shielded behind a helmet so that Leia could not read him, but through the Force, she could tell he was actually considering it.
“Fine. Give her the chip,” he commanded.
The boy quickly pulled the chip out of his pocket and handed it to Leia; he held onto her hand a moment longer and whispered, “Thank you.”
“Memorize this address,” Fett flashed a data pad in front of her for a moment.
“Done.”
“Good, now when you go to the door ask for The Falcon. He should then say to you, ‘Made the Kessel Run in twelve parsecs.’ Understood?”
“Ok,” Leia agreed as she nodded her head. “Do I need to meet with you after?”
“No, I’ll be monitoring you.”
With that the bounty hunter left.
Leia said her goodbyes to the young man and got on her way. The address was a hotel in the same part of Coruscant. She was probably only a block or two away. A few minutes later, she saw the building in the distance and as she got closer, a large group of troopers came into view. Leia stopped dead in her tracks. How would she get by them? She slide into an alley across from the hotel and monitored them for a moment. They seemed to be enjoying themselves and it appeared they weren’t planning on leaving any time soon.
Looking for an alternative route, Leia looked up and noticed the balconies. She had just begun to calculate her jumps when a blaster went off. She looked over to see some of the troopers stumbling out of the lobby. Not wanting to chance it, Leia quickly called upon the Force and jumped to the highest balcony she could. Landing softly, she glanced down to see if anyone had noticed. Of course, the balcony light flickered on forcing Leia to jump to another one. Slowly she jumped her way to the top floor.
“I’m gonna kill that bounty hunter,” Leia huffed as she landed on the last balcony.
Using the Force she determined no one was in the room attached to the balcony. Still on her guard, she entered and quickly made her way to the door. Once she was out in the hallway, she got her bearings. She was on the right floor; all she needed to do was find the right room. After a minute or two, she finally found it and knocked on the door.
“May I help you?” a blonde humanoid woman who was scantily-clad asked.
“I’m looking for The Falcon,” Leia said.
She never expected to hear the Senator Solo’s voice.
“Let them in,” he called out from the balcony.
It was a good thing the woman was unable to see Leia’s face – otherwise she would have seen the absolute hatred in the Princess’ eyes. The Princess, however, didn’t have too long to look at her. She noticed the Wookiee Chewbacca staring at her. He must have recognized her scent. Leia realized she’d have to be quick.
She made her way out to the balcony and saw the Senator standing in his casual clothes; pants with the second level Corallian Blood Stripe, a white long-sleeved shirt and jacket. The Senator was infamous for looking like a spacer when he wasn’t in session. Leia found him even more handsome; something about his wild side appealed to the small part of her that yearned to be free of her duties to the Empire.
“Made the Kessel Run in twelve parsecs.” Han said without looking down at her.
Leia pulled the chip out of her pocket and held it out. Han turned and knelt down to her. His face was kind and he looked genuinely thankful for the help.
“Thank you,” he whispered as he took the chip and replaced it with credits. “I know it’s not much, but hopefully it helps.”
There was an instant when Leia felt awestruck by his concern for someone he hardly knew, but then the woman spoke, causing Leia’s temper to rise.
“Solo, you almost done?” her voice was sultry.
“Does this help you sleep at night, Senator?” Leia snapped without thinking. “Giving credits to a child being forced to work by a bounty hunter!”
[Princess?] Chewie barked.
“Princess?” Han echoed before trying to grab her hood.
Leia anticipated the action and lunged back, then jumped onto the balconies wall and Force-jumped to the roof across the way. She landed with a thud and rolled for a moment. She looked back and realized her hood had fallen. She was now staring eye-to-eye with the Senator. His face still held the concern she had seen when she first arrived.
“Chewie!” he called out.
The Wookiee backed into the room, then came flying back out. Leia saw that he was trying to follow her. Not waiting to see if the Wookiee safely landed, Leia took off at a sprint, making sure to put her hood back on. After several roof tops, the Princess could tell she wasn’t going to lose the Wookiee that easily. As she came upon the next jump, she saw a piece of loose rope. She called it to her with the Force and swung down into the alley. She let go of it and skidded into the adjoining street. Weaving her way through the crowd, Leia ran into another alley and Force-jumped her way back to the roof.
“What in the seven hells?” a thug called out.
Leia looked up and saw a large group slowly coming towards her.
“You lost, kid?” a Mandalorian growled.
“They won’t be for long,” another thug added.
“Please, I don’t want to hurt you. Just let me go and I’ll be on my way,” Leia tried to reason with them.
“I don’t think so. Can’t have you talking to anyone, can we,” the Mandalorian snarled as he and several others charged their weapons.
Leia calmly took her saber out and ignited it. The brilliant blue threw a small amount of light onto her chin.
“It’s a Jedi!” one of them gasped.
“All the more challenging,” the Mandalorian took aim.
Blaster bolts rang out into the night as Leia began to wield her blade frantically. After several deflected bolts cut down a few of the thugs, the remaining group began to advance on her. Several pulled vibro-swords while others continued to fire. Leia called upon the Force to help guide her through the fight. She was graceful in battle; every move flowed into another seamlessly she danced through them until the Force gave off a great warning. Leia was too late to respond to it and prepared to feel a blaster blot to the back. But when she heard the weapon discharge she didn’t feel anything, she only heard the final thug fall to the ground. She turned to see who her savior was. Of course it was none other than the Senator. His blaster hung by his side as he looked at her.
“What are you doing out here? It’s not safe.” Han didn’t try to hide his concern as he walked over to her and gently pulled the hood off.
“I could ask the same of you,” Leia tried to hide the resonating fear from the ordeal, but her voice betrayed her.
“You almost got killed,” Han raised his voice.
“If I recall correctly I killed all of those thugs save one,” Leia matched his aggression.
“The one who had a clear shot at you!” Han bent down to her.
“I could have blocked it,” Leia growled.
“I save your life and this is the thanks I get?” Han said sarcastically.
“You’re right,” Leia said curtly. “Thank you for shooting the last man standing.”
“And here I thought you were the nice royal family member,” Han said flatly.
“And here I thought you were actually respectable.” Leia paused. “I guess I was wrong.”
Leia brushed past him and headed for the stairwell, when Chewie growled after her.
[It’s not what you think Little Princess,] he woofed softly. [Cub is not involved with that woman. He was just there for the chip. He would never do anything to hurt you.]
Guilt overwhelmed the Princess as she looked back at the Senator, who hadn’t moved from the spot near the edge of the rooftop. Leia opened her mouth to speak, but no words came to her.
“Thank you,” she whispered to the Wookiee before leaving.
She managed to make it back to the Palace without further incident. She also managed to find the young boy along the way and gave him Senator Solo’s credits. Now, she sat on the edge of her bed, mind jumping from one topic to the next trying to make sense of it all. Finally, she gave up and flopped back on her bed. She wanted to get away. Some place that didn’t remind her of being royalty, some place quiet but beautiful. Finally the idea came to her.
“3PO!” she shouted. “Have you ever been to Alderaan?”

I really like how you're tying everything together in the story.
Leia helps a young boy and winds up discovering that Han is doing something apparently illegal. Should the Rebellion be mentioned or is that just a wild guess of mine?
I loved Leia acting the compassionate Jedi and healing the child. And now she's planning on traveling to Alderaan.
I can't wait to see what happens next. You're doing a very good job with this story.

but just wondering....how old is Leia now?

Leia the Jedi healer. That just fits perfectly with Leia's personality.
Han saving Leia was reminiscent of the Death Star rescue - and just as entertaining to read.
I can't wait to see what happens with Alderaan.

Great post - I loved all the action. It's good to see that Leia can look after herself, though I did feel kind of sorry for Han.
Interesting ending - I look forward to the next chapter!
