Summary: This story shows the relationship between Padmé and Sola during the most difficult times in Padmé’s life with short flashbacks to events as they were children.

Chapter 1
“I never thought this day would come!” Padmé exclaimed.
“Thanks Sis. I’m so glad you’re happy to hear about my engagement,” Sola replied in a monotone voice.
“That’s not what I meant!” Padmé quickly said, wincing at what her words implied. Sola laughed gently at her sister causing Padmé’s unease to melt away. Padmé had not had enough time to spend with her family since she had been elected queen and since the attack on Naboo had happened. “I meant that… I just can’t believe you’re already engaged! It wasn’t that long ago that we used to talk about this day.”
“Sola?”
“Yes, Padmé?”
“Can we play dress up?” the four year old Padmé asked.
Despite being seven years older than her sister, Sola loved playing with her. “Yes, of course.”
Padmé and Sola giggled as they put on the old dresses and shoes of their mother. They loved pretending to be grown-ups. The finishing touch to their dress up game was the costume jewelry that their grandmother had given them. Sola always got to pick her pieces of jewelry first because she was the oldest, and she always picked a very gaudy ring that she pretended was her engagement ring.
“Sola?”
“Yes?”
“Can I be in your wedding when you get married?” Padmé asked after she had adorned herself with rings and necklaces that sparkled in the sunlight that was drifting through the window.
“Of course you can!”
“Padmé?” Sola asked, snapping Padmé out of her reverie.
“Yes?” Padmé asked, embarrassed that she had been day-dreaming. Queens didn’t have time to day dream.
“I was hoping you’d be in my wedding,” Sola quietly said.
Padmé paused. She wanted to be in Sola’s wedding very badly… but she had so many duties as queen. How could she take off time from being queen to be with her family?
“I’ll understand if you can’t,” Sola said even more quietly, once again interrupting Padmé’s thoughts.
“It’s not that I don’t want to…” Padmé said. “I want to. But with all of the trouble going on lately…” Padmé sighed.
“I know. It’s going to be a very small wedding, and I was hoping you’d be my maid of honor. But if you’re too busy, I’ll understand,” Sola said.
Her words spoke of understanding, but her eyes said she’d be devastated.
How could she not take off time from being queen to be with her family?
“I’ll do my best,” Padmé finally said. “But you better pray that no one decides to invade Naboo on the day of your wedding!”
Both girls giggled happily before they ended the call.

Chapter 1 Continued
Padmé tried on her dress and made a face.
“What’s wrong?” Sola asked.
“It’s so… revealing…” Padmé said.
“What, because it doesn’t cover you from head to toe in a drape, it’s too revealing?” Sola teased.
“Yes, you just wouldn’t understand how naked I feel without my white makeup,” Padmé teased back.
“At least I didn’t pick out something that was pink, frilly, and covered in sequins,” Sola said.
“Hey, that was my favorite dress as a kid!” Padmé said as she made a fake pout.
“Sola! Look! New dress! Pretty?” the three year old Padmé asked her older sister. Padmé twirled around in her pink dress.
“Yes, you look very pretty, Padmé,” Sola beamed.
“I picked out. All by self!” Padmé bragged happily.
“I can tell,” Sola said, still smiling at her little sister. The pink, frilly dress was covered in sequins that sparkled in the light.
“You’re fifteen, you can pull off a dress like that,” Sola reassured her.
“But it shows so much…” Padmé whined.
Sola rolled her eyes. Padmé’s light blue dress was made of a light, flowing material. It was sleeveless, but had thick straps that held up the princess waist of her dress. The top wasn’t low cut and the skirt went all the way to the floor.
“The only thing it shows off is your arms,” Sola replied, rolling her eyes once again.
“And my chest!” Padmé exclaimed.
“What chest?” Sola asked, her mouth clearly fighting with the smirk that was threatening to come out.
“Sola!”

“Do you think I’ll ever get married?” Padmé asked her older sister the night before Sola’s wedding.
“Of course I do,” Sola replied.
“What kind of man do you think he’ll be?” Padmé asked.
Sola laughed. “What kind of man do you want?”
“I… don’t know.”
“Well, he’d have to be someone that could keep up with you… so he’d probably have to be athletic,” Sola said.
Padmé laughed furiously. “A jock?”
“No, not a jock. Someone that’s good looking and likes to take care of his body. Plus he’d have to be smart enough for you, although there aren’t many guys out there like that,” Sola said.
“Yes, not many boys are quite smart enough,” Padmé joked.
Padmé and Sola giggled quietly and settled into happy silence.
“Sola?” Padmé quietly asked.
“Yes?”
“Can I try on your veil?”
Padmé and Sola had put white napkins on their head and gathered up flowers from the field surrounding their house.
They marched down an imaginary isle and stood next to their imaginary grooms. They were married by an imaginary priest to their husband and lived happily ever after.

Sola made a beautiful bride Padmé decided as she watched her walk down the isle to her waiting soon to be husband, Darred. Darred’s face showed as much joy as Sola’s did. Padmé was sure they would have a very happy marriage.
“What do you think his name will be?” Padmé asked.
“Who’s?”
“Your husband’s,” Padmé replied, slightly annoyed that her older sister didn’t automatically know who she was talking about.
“I don’t know. I don’t really care. What do you think your husband’s name will be?”
“Ewan,” the five year old Padmé replied resolutely.
“Padmé has a crush!” Sola teased.
“Do not!”
“Do too!”
Sola’s dress was made of the same material as Padmé’s; the only difference was that it was white, embroidered with beads, and Sola filled out the dress better than Padmé did. Her wispy veil had been pulled back from her face by her father as he gave her away. Padmé saw tears in his eyes as he put Sola’s hand into Darred’s.
“Daddy? Why are you crying?” Padmé asked. She and Sola had come in from playing brides, still wearing their ‘veils’ and carrying their bouquets of wild flowers.
Ruwee Naberrie wiped the tears from his eyes and gathered up his daughters into his arms, holding them gently for fear that they would grow up too quickly and leave him.
The ceremony was very simple. Padmé was Sola’s only bridesmaid, and Darred had his best friend as his groomsman. Only very close friends and family had been invited, and they filled up the small chapel where the couple was married.
Everyone was full of laughter and smiles as they enjoyed their time with the happy couple about to start their new life.
