	Well the response to this will certainly be interesting. Title: The Heart of Betrayal Author(s): Juliet316 Timeframe: post - ESB Characters: Han, Vader, Luke, Leia, Sidious, Force Ghosts, Chewie, droids, etc., Genre: AU, Drama, angst Keywords: AU, Han, Vader, Leia, Luke Summary: Somebody close to the Rebellion betrays them by revealing himself to be a double agent. Will he live to regret his actions? Notes: A response to my own plot bunny on the Plot Bunny adoption thread. He had been made a General. Second in Command to Admiral Piett on the Executor. He wasn't sure how he felt about that, except it was great to finally get out of that Rebel Scum unit he had been with for the past three years. Okay so with the cover he had he didn't have to completely kiss anybody's butt, but it had gotten on his nerves hanging around the Rebellion. Especially the high and mighty Princess Leia and her entourage. But unless he had had a death wish he had to go along with the spiel until the time was right. He loved the look on the Princess' face when he turned his blaster on her and escorted her personally to Lord Vader. She so deserved it for all the hypocritical attitude she displayed to everybody 'in her service.' She had been placed in Carbonite as a way to lure Skywalker to Vader. Skywalker too was eventually placed in Carbonite following a battle with Vader and both where shipped off to Imperial City, known as Crouscant in the Old Republic. Rumor had it that the Emperor was currently displaying both Organa and Skywalker on his wall following the disappearance of Lord Vader. He sighed, getting itchy again. He felt the time that he had spent with the Rebellion had been pure hell. Yet whenever he was in uniform he felt like he wanted to crawl out of his skin. He figured it was just the aftereffects of being with those wretched Rebels and Princess Leia in particular for too long. He figured it would take many more showers to rid himself of the three years of foul stench. "General Solo," an ensign called out, "Admiral Piett needs you on the bridge." "On my way," Imperial General Han Solo replied. 	Chapter One Waiting for Orders They were all getting itchy now. Solo could feel it. Even Piett was getting antsy. They had been back at Imperial City for over a month now, waiting for Lord Vader to return and issue them new orders for either downtime or a new mission. The Dark Lord still had not arrived. It made everybody on board nervous wondering what could have been keeping the Emperor's second - in - command held up for so long. To be honest, nobody knew what really happened to Vader. All General Solo and Admiral Piett knew was that Vader had spent quite a while with the carbon sarcophagues of Organa and Skywalker, quite understandable given the immense hunt Vader had put in for Skywalker. When they arrived at the world formerly known as Crouscant Vader ordered all of the crew to remain on the Executor until he issued further instructions. He had then gone down to meet the Emperor and that was the last time anybody had seen Darth Vader. Now over a standard month later, they were still in orbit, awaiting for orders from anybody high ranking in the Imperial order. In the meantime, they had all undergone extensive debriefing. Solo, espeically had undergone intensive interrogation about his time with the Rebels. He had no problems giving them what they needed, especially with recent events surrounding everybody's escape from Hoth. He provided the Imperial Inquisitors the location of where the Rebellion was regrouping after the ambush on Hoth. Last General Solo had heard they had been taken by surprise, rounded up and brought to various Imperial detention areas throughout the sector. The highest ranking of them would be executed; the rest would spend the rest of their lives in Imperial detention for their crimes against the Empire. The only thing that concerned Han was the events that surrounded the destruction of the first Death Star. It had not been his choice to help the Rebellion. On the contrary, his cover was supposed to have ended handing over Jedi criminal Obi - Wan Kenobi to Lord Vader on the Death Star. He had no clue that the Death Star would have gotten in some target practice on Alderaan or that Skywalker would be so enthusiastic about rescuing the now homeless Princess Leia. He had only said yes because nobody had called for an end to his cover yet and to keep the Wookie he was using from being suspicious about him turning down credits to rescue her. It had been Chewbacca that had insisted on going back and keeping the kid from getting blown out of the sky. At that point Solo had caught between two objectives: Keep his cover and end up possibly being branded as a traitor to the Imperial Navy or blow his cover and shoot the Wookie to keep the alien from changing course back to Yavin. Having gotten to know a Wookie's temper quite well over the years and having a desire not to aquire a death wish quite yet, Han turned back towards the battle, keeping Skywalker safe and hoping the kid would miss his shot. Naturally, things turned out exactly the way Solo had not wanted them to go and Skywalker got his shot off. As it turned out Lord Vader showed a rare spot of forgiveness towards Solo for aiding in the destruction of the death star. In fact Vader promised Solo his current promotion if the spy continued to keep a watch for Skywalker and keep the boy safe until the time was right. The time had been Bespin when they used Organa as the bait for the lovestruck Skywalker. With his job now done, the Millennium Falcon was reportedly reduced a heap of melted scrap metal (Han saw the holos himself), and the Wookie was shipped back to the slavery lines where he belonged for the last ten years. General Solo quietly got on with his life back in the Imperial Navy and his new responsiblites aboard the Executor. That was not to say his time in undercover and in particular his time in the Rebellion had not marked him. As much as he tried, he could not settle back into a comfortable rhythm yet. He figured that would pass as more time away from the wretched Rebels passed. "General," Ensign Benoit, a newly minted communications officer called out. "The Grand Inquisitor has expressed that she is about to board the ship and would like to meet with you and the Admiral." Han nodded. "Have the troopers escort the Lady Inquisitor to the Briefing Room as soon as she arrives and alert Admiral Piett." "Yes, sir," the ensign complied. Fifteen minutes, the Grand Inquisitor of the Empire stood in the briefing room of the Executor. Though small in stature, she held her self like any proud Imperial. Her brown eyes reflected a look that said one had better not cross her. Nobody knew her true name. All that was known about her was that she supposedly served as a decoy for one of the Queens of the Planet of Naboo in the days pre - Empire. At her side was a tall red - headed woman who held herself as a weapon. Not the type of woman General Solo wanted to meet in a dark alley that was for sure. "Gentlemen," the Inquisitor spoke in fine, cultured tones, "I'm sure you would like to know why I'm here and how this affects your continued docking around Imperial City. I will therefore make this brief and to the point." "First off I am sorry for how long you have been stuck in Orbit waiting. I know you would all like to spend some downtime before you recieve new orders after a particularly intense, but ultimately successful campaign. General Solo, most out of all of us deserve that," she gave Han a quick smile that had him wonder for a second if it was sincere or not. She continued. "For the last month, we have been questioning and debriefing you. Most of it of course is standard Imperial procedure after a mission of course. However we have also been conducting mild interrogations on some of the Executor's crew. Trying to determine where some of your loyalties are. To be perfectly honest, we've been trying to determine if any of your crew have any, attachments, to Lord Vader that might prevent them from performing their service to the Empire." "What does this have to do with Lord Vader?" Piett asked, trying to keep the nervousness out of his voice. Solo had glanced over at the redhead and this time there was no mistaking the rage on that young woman's face. The Inquisitor put her back to Solo and Piett for a few moments and then turned her head around and answered: "Lord Vader has been declared an enemy of the Empire."
