(Okay. You might want to stick on some soundtrack music at this point...

... then sit back, and forget everything you've thought about the Prequels since 1999.

EXT. TATOOINE - DAWN

Dawn on the desert planet of TATOOINE. The twin suns
rise slowly, majestically, over the horizon, promising a
bright day to whoever might see them and wish for one.

Today the suns greet ANAKIN SKYWALKER, perhaps twenty-
five, with a large build and haunted eyes.

INT. DESERT HUT - DAY

Jedi Knight OBI-WAN KENOBI speaks with BREHA, an older
Woman, still beautiful, but with a broken spirit that
comes through in her eyes.

BREHA
The Force has brought us both
here for the same reason.

OBI-WAN
(guarded)
What reason is that?

INT. LARS HOMESTEAD - GARAGE - NIGHT

Anakin busies himself tinkering with some piece of
machinery, an intense and faraway look on his face.

BREHA (VO)
When a student is ready the
teacher appears.

Obi-Wan walks slowly out of the shadows and into the
maintenance shed. He gives Anakin, who never turns
around, an appraising glance.

OBI-WAN
The Force is with you, Anakin
Skywalker.

Anakin angrily throws a piece of machinery to the
ground, kicking up dust.

ANAKIN
(skeptical)
What is the Force? A
blessing? A curse? An
accident?

OBI-WAN
It's all of those things, and
more. It's a part of who we
are. If we fear it, we fear
ourselves.

Anakin nods slightly.

ANAKIN
You're a Jedi Knight.

Obi-Wan nods.

ANAKIN (con't)
So is it true the Jedi don't
fear anything?

OBI-WAN
All thinking beings fear.
What's important is how you
handle it.

ANAKIN
What about the dark side?
I've . . . been told that the
Jedi are afraid of the dark
side, because of its power.

OBI-WAN
One cannot become a Jedi by
fearing the dark side, only
by facing it, and moving
beyond it.

ANAKIN
And you have?

INT. SELENE'S REPULSOR BARGE - HANGAR BAY - NIGHT

Obi-Wan straddles a roaring swoop bike and shoots out of
the bay into the dark night. Watching him go are the
Jedi Knight TYRO RESPIS and PRINCESS SELENE, a beautiful
aristocrat.

[blockquote]TYRO
Don't worry, your Highness.
He can handle it.

SELENE
There's always something
worse lurking in the shadows,
Jedi Respis. Always.[/blockquote]

INT. THE BASILISK - MANDALORE'S CHAMBERS

Aboard the Dreadnaught BASILISK the Mandalorian leader,
MANDALORE, stands in his chambers, which are illuminated
only by the full-sized holograms of two SITH LORDS.

DARTH KANE is large and brawny, his lieutenant, DARTH
ARIUS, more nondescript. Both wear the Sith's
customary black cloaks and death's head masks.

[blockquote]KANE
Soon, Mandalore, soon your
warriors will have their
chance for glory. Soon they
will face the Jedi.[/blockquote]

Cue "Here They Come/TIE Fighter Attack." (ANH Soundtrack)

INT. BASILISK - CORRIDOR

The booted feet of MANDALORIAN COMMANDOS tramp down the
hallway.

INT. BASILISK - CORRIDOR

The Mandalorians slowly advance in phalanx, inch by
inch, wrist-mounted blasters and flechette launchers
firing away.

INT. CORVIS MINOR - BRIDGE

A pair of turbolift doors opens. Obi-Wan and Anakin
step out into the bridge of the REPUBLIC GUNSHIP, Anakin
with two blaster pistols, and Obi-Wan with his drawn
lightsaber. They both look around, then at one another.

INT. CORVIS MINOR - BRIDGE

The back of the Captain's chair swivels around to reveal
SABE SUNRIDER, a beautiful young woman with dark hair
and eyes. She is dressed like a space-pirate queen –
with weaponry to match.

[blockquote]SABE
Sabe Sunrider. [/blockquote]

She smirks then bows.

[blockquote]SABE (con't)
At your service. [/blockquote]

EXT. SPACE

Four MANDALORIAN STARFIGHTERS chase a small SPACE
CUTTER.

INT. SPACE CUTTER - COCKPIT

Anakin flies wildly, but with great skill, through a
storm of green turbolaser fire. Inside the cockpit,
Sabe frantically flips switches as Anakin wrestles with
the controls.

[blockquote]SABE
(angry)
Watch what you're doing with
my ship! [/blockquote]

INT. MANDALORIAN DREADNAUGHT - BRIDGE

A SUBALTERN looks to his COMMANDER.

[blockquote]COMMANDER
Gunners - all targets.[/blockquote]

SERIES OF SHOTS

  • Anakin pulls Sabe with him into an open door as
blaster bolts gouge the wall all around.

  • A lift of some kind, probably meant to move
equipment, now moves something else - a trio of
Sith Knights, including the Twi-lek DARTH ETTE.
The Sith spread out and draw their lightsabers.

INT. SHIP'S CORRIDOR

MANDALORIAN COMMANDOS jog down the hallway, their
weapons drawn and firing.

CLOSE ON their booted feet rushing past.

INT. CORVIS MINOR - PRISON HOLD

[blockquote]TYRO
What was that all about?

OBI-WAN
Just part of the plan.

TYRO
WHAT plan?

OBI-WAN
I'm not exactly sure, but I
know that was a part of
it.[/blockquote]

INT. MANDALORIAN DREADNAUGHT - HANGAR BAY

SERIES OF SHOTS

  • Obi-Wan is caught between two Sith Knights,
    desperately duelling both.

  • Anakin, straining, runs towards the camera, his
hand reaching out. Suddenly, a lightsaber leaps
into it and ignites a brilliant blue blade.

  • Selene and Sabe fire through a doorway.

  • Obi-Wan and Anakin battle side by side, their
lightsabers trading blows with those of the Sith.

EXT. SPACE - SEA OF STARS

POV - THROUGH A SHIP'S VIEWPORT

With a flash of light, the Mandalorian Flagship, the
Basilisk, drops out of hyperspace.

Then, a couple more dreadnaughts appear. Then, some picket
ships. Then, all around, an entire fleet of deadly,
fearsome looking Mandalorian warships comes out of
lightspeed, ready for battle.

Cue "The Imperial March." (ESB Soundtrack)

FADE OUT to silence, and another TITLE CARD.

CUT TO TITLE CARD:

CUT TO TITLE CARD:

[blockquote]THE SAGA BEGINS
MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND 2006
[/blockquote]

Have we got you interested?! I hope so! grin

A CALL TO ARMS is, to put it simply, the first movie in the Star Wars saga. It's the Episode I you didn't get in 1999.

Of course, it doesn't actually exist on celluloid. All we have is a script, and your imagination - but we hope that that's enough.

What happened was this. The writers - two long-time fans - got into a couple of long online discussions about the Prequels; and we seemed to keep coming back to the idea that the new movies didn't really match the Original Trilogy, no matter how many CGI scenes George inserted in the old films. Other people, whether they liked the new movies or not, generally agreed, but they seemed to think that this was inevitable: the general view was that it was impossible to create a Prequel trilogy that was a seamless aesthetic and narrative fit with the classic Star Wars films.

We disagreed. We still do. And we think that this is a major reason why, for so many people whose memories of Star Wars stretch back before The Phantom Menace, the Prequels simply don't work.

We started talking this over between ourselves, discussing ways around the supposed problems. We came up with a storyline, based around the backstory hints in A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, spiced with a few details here and there from the novels and comics, and flavoured with a few surprises...

And then we realised that to prove that it worked, we'd have to write the scripts for a trilogy of Star Wars movies.

A CALL TO ARMS is the first of those scripts.

We have a website in the works, and our major goal is to produce a downloadable e-book of the script, illustrated with storyboards and ‘production art’ in the manner of the old Art of Star Wars volumes.

But first, we have to tell the story - and that's what we'll be doing right here, in serial installments over the coming weeks.

We hope you enjoy reading it as much as we've enjoyed writing it!

EXT. TATOOINE - DAWN

Dawn on the desert planet of TATOOINE.

Ugh. Okay, if the information establishing where we are and when the scene
is taking place is established with EXTERIOR TATOOINE DAWN, why is the first
sentence of the paragraph: Dawn on the desert planet of Tatooine?

I'm intrigued by this idea and look forward to reading it when you update. Although you've stated the scripts are to be significantly, if not totally changed, will you keep some of the characters introduced in the previews? Jedi such as Ki-Adi Mundi, Kit Fisto, and Mace Windu come to mind, after all, they're pretty flippin' cool!

Looking forward to your next update

Uhhh, if people want to do their own rewrites and revisions of the PT, that's fine.

But for this to be endorsed by the site itself? All of a sudden, the world's LEADING Star Wars fansite chooses to dismiss all of the new films as worthless(As if it were FACT?) and start/hype-up a massive rewrite undertaking?

EDIT: Flaming
Reminder from the Fan Fiction FAQ Addressing other posters/real world people: (the local version)

At fanfic, we have a long standing custom of not "arguing" with stories or flaming them. While great discussions may arise from the questions a story brings up, what should not be questioned is the premise of the story. If you don't think it's likely that Obi-Wan would quit the Jedi Order to pursue a career as a lounge singer, that's fine, but the author of such a story obviously has other ideas, and attacking the basic premise of the story isn't going to promote good discussion.

Uhhh...SweiitConcorkill and JamesBatista, the saying of 'If you have nothing good to say, don't say anything at all' definitely comes to mind regarding your comments. Give the guy a chance and let him post an update BEFORE you make any premature judgments. Such behavior isn't conducive towards good board discussions.

The issue is not the tone of the comments. This statement in the initial post says it all: "A CALL TO ARMS is, to put it simply, the first movie in the Star Wars saga. It's the Episode I you didn't get in 1999."

That statement is the initial shot across the bow. The ending paragraphs of the initial post are a major slam at the PT and I'm not pleased that it has been given a voice on the main landing page of TFN.

I think your hearts are in the right place. But I think you're going to find out that it's easier to criticize George Lucas on his choices then it is to write a good script. It also sounds like you're going to make this too serious. For all the people who don't like the comic relief in the PT, just watch the OT again and see that there are plenty of funny moments, ,mostly from Han and Chewie mind you. I'm 29 so I've been a fan for a long time. I think there are a lot of things wrong with the prequals, but I did like them. But I agree with some of the other posts change the title, it's not very good.

Good luck

This will be fun to watch. I am 30. Love the originals and adore the prequels.
This discussion will highlight that it is impossible to please everybody and (IMO) demostrate how beautifully Lucas constructed the prequels.
